My drip valve is leaking and I've been looking at some DIY videos and this is the best video showing the parts you will need and how to install. I hope your still doing videos.
Yep still doing videos, just a little busy this time of the year. I’ve got new content coming up this week. Don’t forget to Subscribe so you don’t miss it.✌️
I just watched about six different videos on how to set up anti-siphon valves. This by far was the most informative and thorough video of them all. Thank you so much for the help!
MichiganWildcat PS/ sometimes on Irritrol or Lawn Genie valves turning the back flow on too fast blows the valve diaphragm out of track it’s seated in. Requiring the diaphragm to be reseated down into the valve body. Then use two hands or channel locks to ever so slowly turn back flow water back on.
Chloe B. Glad it helped, let me know if ya have any ?? Have you Subscribed yet? We are gearing up for another “Customer Appreciation Award.” Make sure to tap the bell to stay notified.
Erik, thanks for your comment today. Ya it doesn’t take long to make it look professional and clean. How you get a chance to Subscribe to our Channel, we have lots of other videos✌️
I would think you would need a inline electrical valve installed on the incoming main (connected to a irrigation timer. Then just leave the index valve in place and let the electrical timer interrupt the flow of water thru the inline water valve, through the use of additional start times.and to answer your question no video. Sorry
Glen Connor go to my channel Garys Sprinkler Repair, I have multiple timers, valve etc. videos. Also how to repair a broken pipe, after you cut it to install the inline valve. ( No Installation Video for in-line valve thought)
I have some potential clients that they have water source outside of their house but they want to put some vows for sprinkler system but how do I convert it into about
Would you recommend using a pvc union for easy future repairs or are will unions cause more of a maintenance issue in the future because of the O ring or other complications?
They tend to leak under our super high water pressure and the rubber o rings don’t hold up to 114 degree Fahrenheit temps. Good question, I won’t use them I usually tell a customer if there is a issue in the future you’re just going to call me anyway, not fix it your self.
Nothing at the valves, I just removed them from the timer. Hope that helps, be sure to Subscribe to our Channel to save it for future questions or help.😉
great video. my control valves are all 1" valves but will be installing one drip system on a hillside (approx 45 degree slope) and dedicating one valve for that. Question - should i use 1" valve (40 psi) or 3/4" valve (30 psi) and reasoning behind it. I'm planting only ground cover (trailling lantanas) on hillside. And do you have any videos on this?
thank you Gary. Follow up question - Same situation but now it’s drip system on ground level instead of hillside and planting plants only (no trees), would you recommend replacing current 1” valve (40 psi) to 3/4” valve (30 psi) and your reasoning? TIA. Continue your good work.
You’re more than welcome, glad I could help out. Hope you had the opportunity to Subscribe to my channel it’s free and Helps us out on RUclips search.✌️
Excellent video. Best tutorial on YT. How did you remove the excess dried PVC cement on the one pipe? Do you scrape off the dried PVC cement prior to attaching the adapter fitting?
Yes Rframo, I used a utility knife to clean the old glue off. Make sure to gently turn the water back on before installing the new valves to get any possible old glue flakes out of the pipes that you scrapped off. Don’t forget to Subscribe to our Channel 🤙
Kelly, my normal service call is $95.00. Less than all the other local Contractors. Glad to help you save some money. Don’t forget to Subscribe to our Channel.✌️
Hi Gary, thanks for the video it helps a lot. I am going to be fixing my valves for the 2nd time. The first time I wasn't prepared and my pipes were too far apart for my new valve. The new valve is shorter and doesn't reach the sprinkler pipe. What can I do this time around so I don't have to squeeze the pipes together? I saw in your other video that that squeezing the pipes is a no no.
Daniel, cut the outgoing pipe back about 5 inches add a coupling, small piece of pipe and a 90 to come back up the right distance from the other pipe. It takes a few extra minutes but makes life better.
$85 for 3/4” $95 for 1” $125 for 3/4 drip with filter and pressure reducer I also charge a $95.00 service call that includes rewiring the valves with water-tights splices.
Those are to restrict the flow down to 30 psi and filter the water for small drip emitter openings. Hope that answered your question. We have more videos like this on our channel. Hope you took a minute to Subscribe.
Really good video! Well done for equipping the DIY-er to navigate the problems they will face and pitfalls they might potentially face. When using these valves in their anti-siphon role they'll be attaching to two pipes with glued "permanent" connections, Are there any swivel connectors available that would make future replacements much easier? Or would they be a potential source of leaks themselves?
Yes, they make unions that can be unscrewed for future valve replacements. Honestly, the unions have O rings and those usually fail before the valve. Hope that answered your question, and you can help our Channel grow by Subscribing.😊
I had the sprinkler guy out to open my system and he replaced a valve diaphragm and now it's leaking and all of 3 of my 4 zones on the backyard are running and I can't get them shut off on any of the valve shutoff handles. I had to shut off my water at the main backflow preventer thing. I am lost as to why none of them will shut off. Should have never touched my system but that's what a no nothing noob gets! LOL
MichiganWildcat he might have left the valves on manually, after turning on the back flow (slowly) Check each valve individually. Depending on the type, they usually have a bleed screw (the diameter of a pencil) some use a lever attached to the solenoid. Both types just require snugging it down a bit to the right. Then wait 15 seconds for the valve to lose pressure and shut off.
how does one fix that? I'm having them come back out and fix the zone 9 that they originally put a new diaphragm in because that valve? is leaking water and literally coming out of the ground. I went to shut that valve off thinking I was doing the right thing then zone 6, 7, and 8 came on and I tried the old shut the valve off with the little handle thing and only made things worse and completely confused myself as to where everything was set before I stuck my stupid hands in all the valve controls. I don't know as much as I think I do about sprinklers, love them when I can just program them and shut the door and forget about it! LOL
Thx have to remember that for next time. I use a torpedo level for the lawn zones and hold the drip zone valve up to the pipe then cut it. Not sure if you already knew that and were just critiquing.😁
DO NOT PUT THAT MUCH TAPE ON. Male adaptors are slightly tapered to a slightly Larger diameter closer to the fitting. 2 min and 3 max times around with tape and your good. When you put to much tape, it stresses the female side and can cause a leak.
Depends on where you get your adapters, the commercial ones in Cali aren’t tapered at all. The Teflon manufactures are also making the tape thinner to save $. I do this commercially 31 yrs. have no leaks or breakage from stress. Thanks for the suggestion.👍
Excellent!!! This was by far one of the best most informative videos I've ever watched.
I learned quite a bit from this video.
Cheers!!!
Thank you

Gary do you have a video that shows converting index valve to individual valves?
What psi range are you running? (High and low) How is the flow currently interrupted ?
I would think you would need a inline electrical valve installed on the incoming main (connected to a irrigation timer. I would suggest using the 1” with the 40 psi because you will lose some pressure going up the slope. Hope that answered your question.

3/4” -30psi depending on length of mainline

How do you convert a a spricket into a valve
Great vid! You said not to glue the caps in case you need to use them down the road, then you glued them??? Should they be glued or not? Thanks!
Only the caps on the pressure side need to be glued. Sorry if I want clear on that.

What do you charge to replace four valves out in California?
$85 for 3/4”
$95 for 1”
$125 for 3/4 drip with filter and pressure reducer
I also charge a $95.00 service call that includes rewiring the valves with water-tights splices.
