It's a shame Blizzard can't leave like 1 or 2 devs on D2R like they did with the recent D3 seasons and continue to make bug fixes and maybe introduce a couple of new runewords every ladder reset... That small invest would keep a fair portion of their Diablo fans happy...
That would mean taking away engagement from their failing cash cow ripoff that is D4, so it will never happen. Perhaps when it truly finally dies and starts making less than it costs to maintain it, we will finally get some new D2 content. Until then, the whales that need to look ridiculous riding around with 70$ horse armor continue to give life support to an extremely underwhelming game and inferior ARPG amongst many other great ones.

I mean I would agree, but then why release a new season a few weeks after D4’s, especially when this D2R season was unusually short. As much as I’d love to blame their greed I’m pretty sure that it’s just pure incompetence left at Blizzard. They really just don’t know what they’re doing on a day to day basis. D4 ruined d2r. No more real updates is obvious, them making d4 over making act 6 and extended act 5 is crazy. They would have made similar money with less cost.

There may be some bug fixes hidden away in the patch, and the revelation of a massive D2R fanbase in Korea could well herald more content in some form or another eventually. D4 is still clearly in emergency patch mode, and the D4 Vessel of Hatred expansion may well arrive next year. That said, then not sure of the point of the seasons, guess it's just a ladder reset so people can have fun chasing top spots again. But besides bug fixes not sure what else the game needs.
The only way we will ever get real new content from D2 is if they figure out how to monetize it. I honestly wouldn't care. I've never cared that people can buy all the aesthetics and mounts. D2 is a winner and it boggles my mind they can't see that. If they put someone on the team in charge of spearheading a monetization strategy and get a handful of assets put together to sell, do a little update with some decently significant changes to bring the base back and put that in front of enough people, that would pay to breathe new life into the game or maybe it flops who knows, but the problem is that they aren't even interested in testing to get the data/answer. They could even just start by coming up with some rough ideas and then polling the Diablo crowd before they even invested the time/resources into working on something. I'm very confident the community would not have any issues if there was purchaseable aesthetics, mounts and whatnot in exchange for them working in new content like maybe an Act 6, new class changes, new items, new zones, new events, etc. Would love to hear what others think about this, who knows maybe they will see this comment and consider something in this realm. Company's like new ideas that generate revenue so why not try something, it's better than doing nothing with an already built machine that can still easily gather massive amounts of players 20 years later, the bulk of the work is done, just design some purchaseable assets and boom, now you got money to pay a team to work on it and keep that extra revenue stream healthy, while also taking care of their loyal customers and fans all these years later. Win-win for everyone imo.
Honestly if they moved all ladder rune words to non along with being able to set player count online, I would be fine if we never saw anything but bug/optimization fixes. It was signed “the Diablo 2: Resurrected Team”. ….so there is a team? How many are there? Are they full time? Who are they? What can we, ordinary players, and extraordinary content creators (Mr. Llama) do to get their attention and get some answers?!
I'm also curious what 2.7.1 and 2.7.2 are. They have a patch note section on the bnet launcher, which would be nice, if not for the fact they have never had an actual up to date and complete content of all the patch notes in there, or even a html link to them. Pretty sad to have coded that section of the launcher page but apparently only when they have an intern available to fill it every 18 months does it get updated.
Just in case anyone from Blizzard is reading this: I would be willing to pay up to 500 USD to buy an expansion of D2 which would include an Act 6 and a balance rework with some new runewords.
