If you're designing your plumbing, design the sump and plumbing so it can handle all the water that back-siphons before the siphon breaks. Much safer than a check valve.
The best part of this video was the advice to allow enough extra capacity in the sump to contain any back-siphoned water and to install the return near the surface so that the siphon will break before enough water siphons out to cause a flood. As you mentioned, these valves all require regular maintenance and frequently leak due to debris, critters or algae disrupting the seal. This makes them intrinsically unreliable and since you can't rely on them, you have to have other more reliable safeguards like those mentioned above. This in turn makes the check valves unnecessary.
I should add that some people like them to reduce back-siphoning during maintenance, pump-shut downs for feeding, etc. As long as you are aware of and plan for their shortcomings they do work for these types of use
Hey I have a Question I am looking for a 2.5" one way flapper valve for a hand pump suction device that will with stand wet gravel my pump will be a double action needing two valves one for pull and one for push . I am thinking for the application they don't even need to stop the flow just restrict one direction and open the discharge on the push ,, picture a T . and one restrictor valve is at the foot and 12 " up is a side restrictor valve for discharge .. any ideas will be appreciated ..
I saw a lot of check valve videos but I still found some good tips here! Thank you!
DUDE!!!!!! Didn't even know that loc-line made a check-valve... You guys seriously rock. Thanks again for another great vid!
