A real talk MzJdett7274 …… it’s refreshing to see and hear an entertainer put forward educated perspectives on political and social views (it’s like he’s fighting to keep important issues on the table for public discussion, that’s revolutionary work here). I had a different view than Vegas but his points are valid and it’s worth reconsidering my position. Bex how me sleep out this live and have to be on the playback. A real talk tho IMO G, even if I support access to political office for dual citizen status I think the conditions that establish/confirm allegiance to here can be applicable but the Head of State def shouldn’t be one of those offices allowed that access with any condition at all. I don’t think we should just close that door on all political offices just yet (especially on members of the diaspora that enjoy the dual status that may be well active in political, social, economic life here even more than a lot of people on the ground) Bless

Only in Jamaica a British citizen could be running for the highest position in the country, make that make sense for me .🤔

The argument about citizenship should stop because the law it self give provision for dual citizenship. The argument about is parent being British is not a issue according to the jamaican constitution . In the uk you people of Jamaican heritage serving in government, so why cant mark? By virtue of birth parent he's always going to be able to be a British citizen. Without removal of the king who's the head of Jamaican government and withdrawal from the commonwealth, the law still stands. So like mark said full removal of the monarchy or leave things. Too much pussy footing around the issue.

Frist of all do think a dual citizen of England can lead that government?? The answer is absolutely no!! The British people wouldn't allow it, and the underlying problem you guys is missing is that it's against the laws of Britain for any British citizen to serve in any foreign military if Mark Golden becomes priminster he would be the head of jamaica military and it will be a conflict for him to carry out is military duty for jamaica..this is a no brainer

Mark Golding mother and father was born in UK and Mark Golding knew and agree about the phases until he found that they were planning on changing the commonwealth status I felt it for him he don’t want to renounce his British citizenship I am a Jamaican by birth US citizen by marriage I will not give up my Jamaican citizenship for nothing in this world if I am called upon to do that I would renounce my US citizenship so I know he don’t want to renounce his citizenship because he is not Jamaican he is British

Great points but don’t you think that the fact that he was born in Jamaica and grew up in Jamaica has some bearing on his loyalty for Jamaica above the uk 🇬🇧?

So you are saying our constitution is rubbish and means nothing. Read below what section 39 of our constitution states. The Constitution is our country's heart and when people dont know it, thats how they spout nonsense...
Subject to the provisions of section 40 of this Constitutionn for
memberhip stitution, any person, who at the date of his appointment
or nomination for election of Representatives.
    (a) is a Commonwealth citizen of the age of twenty one years or upwards; and
    (b) has been ordinarily resident in Jamaica for the
    Immediately preceding twelve months,
Shall be qualified to be appointed as a Senator or elected as a member of the House of Representatives and no other person shall be so qualified.

@@IMHOTEP360DEGREESThe jamaican constitution says commonwealth citizens can sit in our parliament after living in Jamaica after awhile. The constitution does not recognize jamaican born in jamaica and taking up citizenship in other commonwealth countries and then want to sit in parliament. Our constitution does not recognize that.

Go read the constitution, especially section 39 and 40. Being a part of the Commonwealth gives one the right to sit in parliament. So the constitution gives Mr. Golding the legal right to sit and run for parliament. Don't let stupid people fool you, these people talking and giving opinions don't know the constitution. Better you read it. IMHOTEP I waited all evening for you to pull from the constitution but sadly you didn't seems you didn't even know what it stated about the matter regarding Mr. Golding dual citizenship as Jamaica is a part of the Commonwealth so it gives him the right to run for parliament.
