Percy the railway cat used to catch this train to the sealife centre, watch the fish for the day & then get the last train back! There’s even a book about him!
I always assumed these engines were originally steam and converted to diesel, which I thought was a shame, I would never have thought they were built with diesel engines.
Steam-outline diesels is something of an internal swear-word for me. But it is shocking that all the locomotives have some historic prestige - closer and closer to 100 years of age in fact!
I have a very fond memory of that train ride. I was taken on it with my grand-parents & uncle, all sadly departed from this world now. We then went to watch the large boat display on the lake there too! Another excellent video Darren, and a nice trip down memory lane. Thank you
Very interesting, I spent six weeks every summer at Scarborough with my mother staying at Westbourne Grove. My mother would always get the backseats going and tip the backs over so we were at the front going back. Lovely childhood memories thank you for sharing.
As a licensed mechanic, I would be "honored" to work in an engine shed like that. The cleaner the shed the more work can be done. What a place to spend a day, sand-surf and sun AND trains.... Thanks to Darren, Steve and Phil for their time and effort.
@@AdventureMe if you where in Tamworth with your band you could of went to Thomas Land at Drayton Manor 🤣. I took my daughter there when she was about 4 I think my husband and I enjoyed it more 😄 🤣.

Thank you Darren. The North Railway is great place to visit. I have been on railway there when staying at Whitby. So many fantastic memories from Yorkshire.
Brilliant video...loved seeing behind the scenes too. When I was a child my uncle lived in Scarborough, at Scalby Mills actually, and riding the train to Peasholm Park was one of my favourite things to do when we visited. I always thought the engines were real steam engines though. I still love a trip on the railway and a walk back along the sea front :)
Visited Scarborough many times as it's not very far from Middlesbrough. I have only ever travelled on the railway once and I thoroughly enjoyed the trip. It is well worth a visit if people are in the area, nice park to walk through is a bonus. I look forward to your next video.
That was absolutely fantastic, what wonderful locos they are. I could sit on one all day. I so enjoyed that thanks Darren. Thanks for taking me along. Please stay safe and take care
Great to see this again. We used to make an annual trip here from York with my Grandma in the 1970s. A special train was organised for railway widows and orphans. Nothing significant has changed.
Excellent video as always Darren. Visited it earlier this year and the guys there were the epitome of being helpful and friendly. Told them I was part of a 12 inch to the foot scale railway reopening and they took me round the engine shed and works. Could not have been more accommodating or friendly. Certainly knew their stuff and were obviously incredibly proud of their locos, the rolling stock, the railway as a whole and it's heritage. The condition in which everything is kept is a testament to that. Well done Steve and the whole team and to you Darren for making such a complimentary and excellent video. Cheers.
Just for clarification about the scale of the railway you’re involved with, wouldn’t 12 inch to the foot equal full size locos, stock, and standard gauge, 4 ft 8 1/2 inches? As you may have guessed, I’m not entirely au fait with the gauges and scales used for replica/miniature railways.
well darren this channel is certainly exceeding all the outer limits long may it continue the brilliant work,ps was doing a bit in rothwell thorpe and llofthouse last week

Known as Steam Outline , a type popular at many seaside and similar pleasure railways. Perfectly acceptable to use them at any kind of hertitage or other railway signposted as a leisure destination provided the railway name does not include Steam Railway ( unless it does have something running powered by very hot water.

The other difference is that the Scarborough line is 20" gauge, whereas the R.H.D.R. is 15" gauge and, as Darren alludes to, steam-driven.
The rhdr locos also travel a lot faster at 25mph and which definitely makes it more of a wild ride.
