This video has saved me from catastrophe. I bought 2 aftermarket front hubs which came with 1.5 threads on eBay and called it a day. Never occurred to me that this could happen, why would it? You're taking bolts off and put them back on right?. I can't thank this guy enough! Im in the US and I have this exact car in South America where Im taking the hubs. If I got there and then the original hubs bolts where 1.25 I would be SOL. From the research I've done since this video I now know that the rear's will always be 1.5. It gets interesting because even the dealer thought the fronts where 1.25 bolts. Here's the money shot: They could either have 1.25 bolts or 1.5 depending on the bearing the original hubs came with from factory. I suspect that for the smaller engines (less weight) it could have the 1.25 bolts. Mine is the 4.8 V8 which is supposed to have the 1.5. Either way Im taking 1.5 bolts with me down south just in case. Thanks a million for this video since there is nobody else I could see here sharing this experience. In my situation it could have meant disaster being overseas unable to install the new hubs and having to wait weeks to get parts shipped there. GRACIAS!!!

BMW normally calls for replacing bolts when changing out the hub and many other parts for that matter , I am in the process of changing my hub out on a F15 . Thanks for the vid

Sometimes when you are replacing parts some of the easiest things will hold you back. I was replacing on both sides of my expedition the CV axles and the unit bearing. Both sides of the car use the same part number for the CV axel. I could not figure out why the CV axle would not go into the bearing. So I grabbed the other axle and that went in perfectly smooth. Show my narrowed it down to the axle apparently at some point in time it was dropped. A couple of the splines would not line up. It just so happened I had the perfect file to use on it. If anyone is old enough or has worked with the point ignition has one of these little files. It probably had taken me less than 2 minutes to get it squared away. The only reason I did not take it back watch for the fact that has taken 2 weeks to come in from a special order.
Now you had me laughing when you said that the axle nut what is 300 ft lb. For some odd reason I just know what it is on a couple different of my vehicles. Add on the X5 is 225 ft lb if you don't have the right torque wrench might as well be 300 lb you wouldn't know when to stop even at 225.
Whenever I catch one of your videos it makes me smile. Also I know you don't have the decision to replace both sides. That would drive me insane. I always replace both sides when I'm dealing with things such as tie rod and ball joints.

I've got two E70 diesels in the garage, haven't had to deal with this yet so I wasn't aware of the update. Looks like a pretty easy job otherwise. Thanks for the heads up!

I had to use a massive $200 hub puller to get my axle out. It was so seized 😆
