Hi everyone! It's been amazing to discover Star Wars with all of you. As we prepare to continue exploring more of the films in this universe, I have a small request.
Please let's try to keep the comments spoiler-free and respectful of others' experiences. I know that the Star Wars films hold a special place in many hearts and can evoke strong opinions. While it's great to share our thoughts, please remember that I am watching these movies for the first time and would love the opportunity to experience them and form my own opinions without spoilers or preconceived notions.
Thank you for making this community a welcoming space for new and veteran fans alike. Let's enjoy the journey together, and may the Force be with us all

In the original version, Vader doesn't say or cry out "NOO!" at the end. The only hint of his internal struggle is that he keeps looking from the Emperor, to Luke, back to the Emperor, back to Luke one final time with a slight tilt of the head, and he makes his decision in complete silence. It packs a much heavier emotional punch.
Also notice how Luke is screaming in agony during the Emperor's lighting attacks, and this is when the Emperor is basically just toying with him and torturing him, he's not trying to kill him at this point. When Vader lifts him up and carries him to the shaft, the Emperor obviously realizes he's been betrayed and is about to die, so he would be using the lightning attack at the maximum possible power. Still, Vader is completely silent, during what must be totally excruitiating pain.

There were three different actors that brought Vader to life. David Prowse was the man in the suit and the least recognized of the three. He didn't even get credited for the role originally. James Earl Jones is the voice of Vader. He also voiced Mufasa in The Lion King. Finally, at the end, when his mask is removed, the actor is Sebastian Shaw. 3:24 About 99% of the special effects you see in the original trilogy are the way we saw them back in 1977, '80, and '83. Just the occasional CGI scene was added here or there. For example, the Emperor we see in THIS film is different from who I saw on the holograph when he was talking to Vader in "The Empire Strikes Back", so the hologram was changed years later to the actor who plays the Emperor in THIS film.

Darth Vader went on a redemption arc. He indeed was "good for only 7 seconds", but his life as a bad guy was part of the reason Luke and Leia had to go on the journeys they went on, and ultimately had to help save their father. He was also part of the reason the emperor was ultimately defeated. It was all part of all their destinies. Star Wars, at its deepest, is a story about family, specifically, father and son. And it's something that echoes throughout the prequels as well.

@@passionsquietrage Because it is not needed frankly. It wasn't in the original version right? Also, it removes the "reveal" of Jabba the Hutt in ROTJ. Diffuses the impact of that reveal. Also, it doesn't look like the Jabba from ROTJ being CGI and all. And, Jabba acts different in the New Hope scene. He's tame, polite and almost submissive to Solo in a way. Which the Jabba from the ROTJ is not those things. He is ruthless, fearless and cunning. Right?

    • @passionsquietrage
      @passionsquietrage 7 месяцев назад +1

@@VoltesWithElias Maybe in the scene in ANH he didn't have to be ruthless and cunning, especially since he wasn't in his palace like he was in ROTJ. Why does the reveal in ROTJ need to be impactful? Ok sure the cgi could have looked a little more like him, but it was good enough to be convincing. Plus, there's a deleted version of that scene with Jabba as a human.

    • @VoltesWithElias
      @VoltesWithElias 7 месяцев назад +5

@@passionsquietrage Respectfully, I don't buy those arguments and I'll explain why.
He "doesn't need to be" doesn't mean he wouldn't be. He's Jabba the Hutt. What would be his motive for not being himself when he is all other times we see him to anyone? The scene makes no sense relative to ROTJ.
The reveal doesn't have to be impactful, but if it is, it can only be a positive for the story,. The guy enters the scene of the story with purpose and a bang so to speak. Sets the tone of the character and that we should fear him. Unlike the introduction of the character in a new hope.
If it wasn't good enough to be convincing, why add it? It's not needed. If it was, it would have been in there.
Yes I know that it's a deleted scene, it was shot and not used until the cgi came along but again it's not needed. Not all scenes that are shot make it to the final edit of a movie. The ANH scene does more harm than good as aforementioned above.

    1. Best guess is that Han was Jabba's "trophy" for about a year and a half before the rescue.
    2. Vader discovered Leia as Luke's sister because he could feel it through Luke.
Luke didn't know that until just before then.
    3. Luke's light saber is green because he lost his old one along with his hand so they decided to make it green because it worked better in the desert background landscape.
    4. Everybody is freaking out because Luke and Leia kissed mostly because she was trying to piss off Han. They didn't know they are related.
    5. The "I love you. I know" was written into the script to get Leia the shot to say it to Han.
    6. This was Warrick Davis'/Lead Ewok first acting gig. He was only 13.
"Willow" is his lead with Val Kilmer and worth a first time/share.
    7. Awesome camera work with the race through the forest. Nobody in their right mind would go that fast.
    8. Carrie Fisher said in her biography that the most satisfying part in her Star Wars experience was choking out Jabba.
    9. Jedi is plural. With Luke and Leia leading the way they can reestablish the Jedi back into the galaxy.
    10. Ford wanted Han to die in the last episode.
    11. IMVHO this is the best of the original six George Lucas Star Wars. After the first six he sold it to Disney, and everything changed. Sadly

5:00 In A New Hope, Jabba was originally Human and the scene with him and Han discussing his debt was deleted from the theatrical version. George Lucas added that scene back in the movie in the 90s with Jabba as CGI. However in this movie, Jabba is a puppet as he was filmed originally. That's why they look so different.
11:00 You have to have a mind to be weak-minded :) Thus, non-sentient/sapient creatures cannot be affected by the Jedi mind trick. In the RPG games, there is a skill to tame animals with the Force and it has made its way into the prequels but it's a different ability.
22:00 it is possible to block oneself from the Force. This is one way Yoda managed to stay hidden from the Empire for as long as he has. It's a skill Luke hasn't learned yet.
25:00 The teddy bears aren't little wookies :) They're called Ewoks and are a completely different species from a completely different world (This is Endor, while Wookies are from a planet called Kashyyyk)
32:00 David Prowse was the man inside the armor of Darth Vader. His voice was done by James Earl Jones and old Anakin ( Vader without the helmet) was played by Sebastian Shaw. Sebastian Shaw also appeared as a force ghost in the original version the movie instead of Hayden Christensen.
38:50 Leia replying "I know" to Han's declaration of love was the best thing XD
Great reaction! Feeling emotions and crying at the ending of this movies cements you as a Star Wars fan ;) The Fall and Redemption of Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker is one of the greatest character arc in cinema.

Hey, Cristy! I'm glad you enjoyed your experience discovering this trilogy. The Skywalker Saga constitutes a modern mythology for four generations of viewers.
I love Jabba! I get a kick out of how he's called Pizza the Hutt in "Spaceballs"! Lol. He is the pure embodiment of the id. The Hutts are the most powerful criminal cartel in the Star Wars galaxy controlling a vast portion of space outside the jurisdiction of the Core government be it Republic or Empire. They always represent a third power in the galaxy. Jabba's palace and lifestyle is modeled after Western concepts of the decadence and opulence of the cultures of the Orient during medieval and early modern history: Arab Caliphs, Persian Satraps, Ottoman Sultans, Tatar Emirs, Mongol Khans, Russian Czars and Indian Rajas. The Sail Barge is, of course, modeled after piratical swashbucklers; Jabba even has Luke walk the plank!
The large mechanical arachnids with liquid-filled glass bulbs seen stalking through Jabba's palace are actually monks of the B'omarr Order who transplant their brains into those glass bulbs filled with a nutrient solution that keeps the brain alive. The purpose of the bodily separation is so that the monks can exist free of bodily sensation in order to achieve enlightenment. It's an ascetic philosophy taken to the utter extreme!
Leia's barely-there slave outfit is one of her signature looks and is a very popular cosplay that was famously made light of on the TV show "Friends". Many impressionable pre-pubescent boys sprouted hair on their chest at the sight of her and carried a torch for the Princess well into adulthood! Lol.
Boba Fett, the dreaded bounty hunter who delivered Han to Jabba, was long rumored to have survived falling into the gullet of the Sarlacc in the non-canonical Expanded Universe. The second season of "The Mandalorian" provides a definite answer on the subject!
Femi Taylor, who played the Twi'lek dancer Jabba feeds to his pet Rancor, returned for dancing reshoots inserted into that horrific CGI musical number performed by Jabba's house band. Despite it being some 15 years later, her physique was unchanged and matched the old footage seamlessly!
The two pale elderly gents in purple robes and headgear in the Emperor's entourage are part of the Imperial Ruling Council who handle daily administrative tasks. Believe it or not, action figures were made of them and they were officially named in a canon novel called "Tarkin" by James Luceno. Their names are Janus Greejatus and Kren Blista-Vanee. They're just pasty old bureaucrats but highly sought figures for Star Wars collectors!
The Leia twist was hinted at in "Empire" when she sensed Luke from afar while he was dangling from the bottom of Bespin! Subtle sensations like that indicate that she has latent Force-sensitivity and has a connection to Luke. However, she never consciously manipulated the Force, never underwent training and never thought of herself as anything other than an Alderaanian princess which is why Vader never perceived anything amiss about her.
Warwick Davis, who played the Ewok named Wicket who first comes upon Leia, has shown up in every Star Wars movie since in a cameo! He is the franchise's lucky penny! You may know him as the star of "Willow".
Primitive guerilla fighters defending their native territory like the Ewoks have often had an advantage over a more technologically advanced, disciplined foe like the Empire. The Celts defeated the Romans, the Mongols defeated the Chinese, the Americans defeated the British, the Vietnamese defeated the Americans and the Afghans defeated the Russians.
The fish-headed Mon Calamari Rebel Admiral Ackbar is a fan favorite and his delivery of the line, "It's a trap!", became a popular meme to this day!
The Rebel pilot Wedge Antilles, played by Denis Lawson, survived two Death Star assaults and the battle on the ice world of Hoth! In the Expanded Universe that is no longer canonical, he became a legendary flight instructor for the New Republic's Flight Academy.
The tweaks to the remastered "Return of the Jedi" are the most egregious in the series including that dreadful CGI musical number in Jabba's palace, a beaked Sarlacc, Vader exclaiming, "Noooo!" and a young Anakin Force-ghost that replaced middle-aged Sebastian Shaw with young Hayden Christensen. However, you do get a glimpse of the city-planet Coruscant during the galaxy-wide celebration. Coruscant, the Galactic Capital, is a completely industrialized ecumenopolis from surface to core! Appearing prominently throughout the Prequel trilogy, Coruscant was most definitely inspired by Isaac Asimov's capital world of Trantor from the "Foundation" series.

    Thank you so much!!!
I first watched Star Wars episode IV when I was 9 years old (and just over 25 times in the years following).
Watching your reactions to episodes IV to VI was the first time I experienced the joy and wonder of the plot twists and mis-directions since my first viewing in the theatre. Your reviews brought me that joy and amazement once again!
Put yourself in our shoes waiting years for the next installment ... yet none failed to please, even after the endless (childhood) waits. They just kept getting better and the trilogy left all more than satisfied. It was a complete and perfect package to us at the time. You brought that all back and I was able to watch all three without the many year interruptions.
As children the original graphics were mind blowing. George Lucas later added to the bar scene, upgraded the light sabres and made a number of other "upgrades" and edits/replacements. While some of the edits were beneficial-excellent (like the bar scene and the light sabres) others stand out (if you're an OG fan watching carefully) while doing little to make the movie better. I especially dislike making Jabba digital in Return of the Jedi. Jabba was a great gangster/monster as a puppet/creation and turning him into a digital ghost stood out clearly and offended me.
On a lighter note I'd like to give you my take on the Princess Leia almost/is this? a love triangle?
As Leia last commented on the matter to Luke she said, "I've always known...". I believe that (subconsciously) Luke knew too. They both felt their kinship as love but did not yet understand why. While they kiss a few times, none of their kisses are at all passionate. Their Falcon kiss is aggressive but it's primary motivation is to put Han in his place, not passion. As for kissing on the lips, that led to more suspense and kept us wondering. Also, it is not unknown for loving siblings to kiss on the lips, even lovingly ... but not passionately. They never crossed this line.
I believe they loved each other at first sight. It just took a while for them to consciously understand their love.
As for that pirate Hans, he was Leia's soulmate from the start. Their attraction was seen from the start but it took Leia a while to prove that she was at least Han's equal (well, far superior considering she is powerful in the Force) and to tame him without taming his pirate spirit. IMOP, they were destined to be lovers from birth.
I've subscribed to your channel, am doing the thumbs ups, and look forward to watching many more movies with you! I won't be watching episodes I to III with you as they were a massive disappointment to me. The Jedi could not be bothered to go back and rescue (or buy out) Anakin's mother from slavery soon after they rescued him? It didn't cross their minds that he might want her rescued? Then they allowed a weak, sit-com like failure to communicate between Anakin and Padmé to lead to Anakin's final break? This failure leads to him slaughtering children and making him despised by all the new fans?
A much better plot line SHOULD have been come up with. We are left at the end of episode VI with some feeling of redemption for Darth Vader, and with the re-edit, Anakin, as well. Episodes I to III reverse this and left all of the new fans with nothing but hate for Anakin. They made all of the Jedi look like morons with zero foresight. The redemption should have remained based on a more sensible and less violent passing of Anakin to the dark side.
IMOP, yeah, the graphics were brilliant and Natalie Portman cannot fail to please, but I think I could have come up with a better plot line for episodes I to III, and I'm no writer...
They should have merged the spirit and feelings across the entire six episodes and again (IMOP) they (Lucas) failed miserably to do so and left a bad taste in my mouth.
Anywaze, thanks again for bringing back my joy and amazement the first three films! You're reviews are top-notch!
P.S. After becoming a Star Wars fan there is one movie that should be seen as it is great and only Star Wars fans can fully appreciate it. It is one of the great Mel Brookes parodies and I think/hope that you and your viewers would LOVE to see it!

In the original release, the young Annakin "ghost" was actually the actor dude inside the Vader suit. The inexplicably changed him to young Annakin from the prequels for reasons.

They changed it to tie the prequels to the OT, it was for consistency purposes.

@@passionsquietrage So why wasn't Obi-Wan replaced by Ewan McGregor in that scene, then? Like many such 'edits', it's just silly.

@@Scyth0r Because he didn't need to be replaced since we had an older version of Kenobi in the story. Anakin was changed to Hayden to represent when Anakin "truly died". The Anakin that everyone knew died when he became Vader so his force ghost having his appearance at that time makes perfect sense and isn't "just silly" in any way.

R2-D2 is a radio controlled robot when the plucky little droid is rolling around on three legs. When it is standing on two legs or 'walking/shuffling' it is a different puppet model containing actor Kenny Baker. In that way the two-legged mode of R2 can rock back and forth emotively or do some minimal walking and remain standing. Kenny Baker's legs are actually visible strapped inside the R2 legs, so you usually won't see them shoot R2 all the way down to the bottom of the legs in standing mode.
