Alkilinity is different from alkaline water, alkalinity is water’s ability to buffer changes in pH usually measured in CaCo3 mg/L equivalent or milligrams per litre of calcium carbonate or equivalent to a certain level of calcium carbonate if discussing another chemical which is causing the alkalinity. For example water which is alkaline at 9 pH and has low alkalinity will take very little acids to change its pH to 7 for example, alkaline water at 9 pH with HIGH alkalinity will absorb tons of acid compounds before lowering in pH, therefore requiring much more pH adjustment in order achieve 7 pH in the form of way more acids to achieve titration or neutral water.
