This is an excellent concerto: adventurous, sumptuous symphonic harmonies that follow the piano towards new tonal vistas; stands easily side by side with works by Dvorak or Janecek. Thank you for sharing this unjustly neglected work.
Metej - BOTH are CORRECT: Czech AND Tsjech. Just depends on which transliteration system you use to Anglicize. For example, Tchaikovsky/Tschkowski/Chaikovsky or Rachmaninoff/Rakhmaninov. Some of us are melancholic for the German renderings of times past......
It sounds like a sort of 'alternate-universe' Dvorak. Reminds me a lot of Dvorak's early works - the first couple symphonies, or the piano concerto - with some of the awkwardly-long sections cut out. Obviously not exactly the same, and very nice in its own right!
Kniazigor Good afternoon. you could try Pan, either orchestrated by the composer, or the original version for solo piano: ruclips.net/video/r10EsmBrwoE/видео.html
I would say thtat this is the Skoumal recording, although cut off before the applause. There is another recording, not on YT as far as I'm aware, with Peter Wallfisch with the BBC Northern Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jiri Starek. That has a slower opening, and I think this one is the better of the two.
The Skoumal recording on RUclips available here: (Mvt.1) ruclips.net/video/CLc3d86MhrA/видео.html ... sounds like a monaural recording to me, but this (annoyingly unidentified upload) is a stereophonic recording, so these two are apparently not the same recording.
A very good concerto by Suk, a follower of Dvorak who uses a traditional language. Te Czch more 'progressist' voices are Janacek and Martinu. Suk is underrated, he wrote some splendid scores.
There is a recording on RUclips conducted by Jonathan Nott with a Skoumal as the pianist; I don't know if that's the same recording as this. (Ah. Composed 1895; published in 1949 by Melantrich of Prague. There's also a violin concerto which may not have yet been published in full score, not sure...)
Un concerto ben riuscito, anche se non figura ,a torto, tra le sue maggiori composizioni .Una composizione molto personale e anche ben orchestrata. Mancano molte notizie nell'upload.
Having heated some other pieces by Novak this seems to be an early piece as the style does not reflect that of his other more mature pieces that exhibit a more personal and unique flavour, however this is not to take anything away from the value and strength of this work.

Why is there no information given with regards to the pianist, the orchestra and the conductor ?? With this sort of sloppy uploads - save yourself and us the trouble - desist from anymore uploads of this kind !
I agree , this seems rude to both performers and the RUclips audience - but I suspect it's actually because this upload is a direct copyright infringement and leaving any identifying information off is to try and escape repercussions. Stealing copyright is worse than just rude.
The Pianist: František Rauch, Symphony Orchestra of Czechoslovak Radio The Conductor: Josef Hrnčíř 1982 I. Allegro energico II. Andante con sentimento III. Allegro giusto
Wow! There is some incredibly beautiful stuff here. Thank you 🙂

Vitezslav Novak (5-12-1870 - 18-7-1949) a Tsjech composer who wrote one pianoconcerto in 1895. A very fine work!
Indeed! A new one to add to my collection.
*Czech

Yes, indeed fine work.. and tks to add data about the piece.
🇧🇷
Thank for your data details.
Great concerto. Thumbs up. Hats off...
amazing
so nice to listen to
Another great find.
Beautiful performance of wonderful composition

I only knew the Czech suite to this composer.
His other works are very interesting
Thanks for posting!

Delicious Piano!

Gan bel concerto.
Artista riscoperto!
great work ...

Novák, not Suk (both were Dvořák's students and friendly rivals, though)
Hear a little bit of Bernard Herrmann type "colors" with the strings @17:51-18:20
I think it's a recording from 1982 / piano: František Rauch, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, conductor: Josef Hrnčíř. It's definitely not Skoumal
Thanks!
Yes, it was either composed in or published (in some form) in 1895, I gather.
I finally have to ask, where do the people who post these classical pieces find all these awesome landscape paintings?
Google images xD
They paint it
Would be interesting to know who painted this one, seriously now, and what's the paintings title. It tells a story, apparently.

Anyone know where to find the music score? Thanks
I'm in love again! Where can I buy this CD/LP????
@@majklice Thank you! From USA

I think this is a recording of famous Czech pianist František Rauch. Adam Skoumal´s recording is about 1-2 minut quicklier.
You may be correct. However, with "quicklier", you've managed to make 2 mistakes at 1 swipe - a rare feat!
🇧🇷♥️
nice
IThis is the first I've heard of this concerto (I have a not of Novak works, but not this). It's wonderful. Who is the pianist, and which orchestra?
Who's the pianist / conductor / orchestra?
This is pretty good! Thanks for sharing.

great piano concerto, maybe somebody know who is the painter
Painter....You think maybe Thomas Cole? (resembles "Course of Empire" series)
Who is performing?
Could be a Rhapsody for piano and orchestra rather than a concert. Something lacks as sequence is concerned. A beautiful mini-puzzle.

Novak's concerto cannot convince me:a modern style without themes.
+Marc DE KEYSER Ehm... no themes? None you like perhaps, but there are demonstrably themes present in this piece.
+Marc DE KEYSER Completely agree with Bom.
A little bit Tchaikovsky)
.....even Rachmaninoff around 23:00 !
This is better than Dvorak's piano concerto 1

The piano sound is really awful; a pity, as this is an interesting and (otherwise) enjoyable work. Thanks for posting.
