Superb! Story, riding, filming, narration, editing, everything... Although the vid was only 7:01 long, it was so well-done and packed with fun, it felt like a 20 minute video, except I got 16:59 of my life back for free! First-time viewer here, but I'm already hooked! Thanks for your diligent and spirited efforts! And yes, you made me want one.
I second this ! Great post. As a novice (4 times this year but more to come!) track day rider - this summarizes the experience. It is your perspective but still captures the essence for all and provides guidance . Great riding too! Smooth!
At 1 of my recent track days a guy was riding his 701, and he had a ball. Was on the short South Circuit at Sydney Motorsport Park, and he was one of the quicker riders and the only part where he was slower than the super sport and super naked bikes was the short straight. Very impressive bike!
Welcome to America lmao. Just joking, you can find that kind of stuff all over. Depends on the day sometimes. American amateurs do seem to be significantly sub par though, but maybe it’s just a numbers game. Here in Italy there’s probably a lot more bikers and so you see more skilled people just because of the saturation. I do find it funny when the “fast” group seems to just be for anyone average and above. Some of the lower groups are just abysmal, but I guess everyone starts somewhere.
you should ride with more experienced riders, otherwise you won't learn anything, here on sport bikes riders were too slow for you, not because they have sport bikes but because don't know how to ride faster
Yes this was A group. The fastest riders in the session... I was part of the group also. This day had a lot of smaller bikes "250-400cc", including my r3. This supermoto was riding pretty well but I definitely didnt see in the video the faster riders. I only did a 1:13 on my r3 compared to a 1:07 on my cbr600rr at this track.
@@garymanning8920 pretty normal for this shorter technical track I think. Hoping to get faster and faster on the r3. At East which is a 3 mile track and has more straights the difference is more like 13 seconds
Thunderhill West is friggin amazing. Track is as smooth as a pool table. Some track day providers go one direction on the first day then opposite direction on the 2nd day. I'm there every chance I get on my 690 SMC-R & Ninja 400. It's a small bike paradise. Last time I went it was 111° in the shade. Definitely need a hauler with air conditioning! 😎
Hello Mike Thanks a lot for your insightful videos. I noticed that you dropped your 701 for a 450 FS that is more designed for the track. Having ridden both of them could you give us your Pros and Cons from a Track usage standpoint (a video about it would be pretty cool!;)) Thanks
Sic riding and video mate. I've seen most of the pro riders in Europe drop their arms down like you on straight's, think helps alot with aerodynamics as you sit higher on dirtbike and no windscreen. Keep ripping it up, living the dream. Avagud1 buddy.
Excellent video! As a fellow 701 owner, I find the power train to be awesome on the street, with punchy power and surprising top end. It is more than enough to land it's rider in jail 😆
So much power on such a light bike! Perhaps some of the bigger bikes could get you on the straights, but you’d own them into all of the corners. I have a Husaberg 570 all set up for motard on and off the track, I have an R6 and R1 track bikes, a S1000RR, and ST Sprint (Triumph for long trips), but I know on all of those bikes, I could pretty much beat my lap times on the 570! The S1000RR has launch control and quick shift, but by lap two I’d have caught up to myself for sure, and the Beamer is fast AF! I get a little nervous a times on the track in the Beamer, it’s my daily rider, and it’s a 2017 model, if anything were to happen to it if he devastated, but if I’m running late I’ll jump on the 570 and piss the neighbours off when I leave for work at 5am haha It’s loud, real loud as you would know. Great effort and great video bud 👌
Me, myself and I was quicker on my old supermotard modified TT600 than on my y2000 R6 and y2005 R1, but my 2002 R1 beat us all up. A part from leaving me with fractures and stitches. Fantastic bike. Fantastic video and show. Thanks!
Really enjoyed the video and fantastic editing. One thing: If I was on track and I saw someone in front of me drop a hand like you were, my instinct would be that they were trying to indicate something like an issue on track...or some other reason I should slow down. At the very least it would confuse me. I could be in the minority on that but just my observation. In any case, subscribed!
Just one tip to improve: From the GoPro mount, it doesnt seem like he is looking very deep down the curves. If you look more towards the exit, you can have a more confident, higher lean angle, and therefore go faster
what tires you use for track mike ? i bought a husky the other day and it got conti attacks on it , but i hear they get too hot on a track at descent speeds . what you recommend ?
What a great damn video, thanks for sharing man...wish someday i'll be able to do this sort of stuff. (quick question, what are the break/clutch leavers you're using? I'm looking for something similar for my LC4)
Both easier to ride and more fun. If the track has too many open sections less so; for technical tracks and canyon carving, a Supermoto is superior to a sports bike.
I’m the “one do it all” guy, I currently own an 2015 FZ07 and I was playing to get a supermoto as a second bike..... after watching this awesome video my question is: the 701 is a good all around bike compare to my FZ07? I just wanna keep just one bike(weird)
I'm heading to Thill on my 701 soon, what gearing were you running? I have a 16/42 on my Sumo setup right now, it's a bit tall for really tight street or cart track but I'm thinking good for road course?
You'll never get out of 5th gear at T-hill West track on a 701. I have the same gearing as well on my 690 SMC-R but it's never been an issue or felt like I need to re-gear it. You'll love your quick shifter at West track. I'd keep the 16/42 in case you do East track. You'll easily hit 6th gear and 120+ down the front straight away. Have fun!
@@MikeonBikes ooo that's awesome! I'm debating between a toy hauler that I haul with my truck or something like yours with a RV. Problem is I'm a bit hesitant to have two vehicles to manage. Love your videos!

Excellent
Coincidence? I think not
I came to write the same 😡
its also the amount of days between full engine rebuild due to cheesy cams
A toy hauler. That's what I've been missing in my life.
I think the guy was on the right path with the trailer.
@Rusty Climber I see you can buy waffled/corrugated plastic now. Be a good way to keep the weight off the walls and ceiling
Agree!

Wow. For “A” group some of these dudes were super slow!
It just looks like that couse the track is "empty". If it were more twisty and had more stuff arround the track it would look fast (normaly fast)
It’s common for the squids to jump up into the advanced groups due to a lack of self awareness or loose track rules. Dangerous too.

2:41 "centigrade" did you mean celsius?
Same thing, relax
*Thank you for the video. You mind me asking what pressure you're running on the bigger tracks like this?*
Its crazy the vehicles that are allowed on American roads. The rear overhang on the RV is insane!
Is that a Pilot Power RS rear tire on your 701? Looks like its been installed backwards

Awesome video man, come down to Laguna Seca. I will ride my 701 with you in the A class down here
The dropping the arm thing is popular with mini bike racers as it makes you a little bit more aerodynamic, and with mini bikes every little helps.
Nice one Mike!
Thanks!

Any reliability issues? Maintenance same as a KTM 690 I heard.
Just the rear ABS , I'm using a dongle to turn it off.

I run Metzeler racetech SMs, K2 front & rear for racing. The engine is stock.

Both easier to ride and more fun. If the track has too many open sections less so; for technical tracks and canyon carving, a Supermoto is superior to a sports bike.
how does it feel having the camera on top of your head? is there much pull on it?
