London 2012 - Olympic Games Torch Relay - Redhill & Reigate Surrey - Day 63 - Friday 20th July 2012

Day 63 of the Olympic Games torch relay from Maidstone to Guildford. The last day of its general UK tour. From tomorrow, it will spend the last week before the games, weaving through the 33 London boroughs. We start the film at the top of Redstone Hill in Redhill, waiting for the arrival of the first torch bearer, 14 year old Emily Baxter-Derrington, nominated for her work as a young carer. Time for some photos with her proud family before the flame arrives. Having just been carried though Godstone and Bletchingley villages. The flame is transferred from a coal miner's Davy lamp then Emily sets off down Redstone Hill to the junction of Fenton Road, where the flame is transferred to the second runner, James Mundy (05:53). The torch was carried down Redstone hill last time we held the games in 1948. Huge crowds greet the flame, carried by James Spicer, in Redhill town centre, then it's over to Scott Cullimore (07:03), north along the A23. I couldn't keep up with him, but at the "waterworks" it was over to Samantha Pearce to turn left into Carlton Road. During a short break at St Bede's school, we see the line of the next batch of torch bearers. On up to the top of Carlton Road was Adam Cook (12:55) and left onto Croydon Road, past Wray Common. Lesley Martin walks with the torch at (15:00) as far as the Roedeer pub then on into a packed Reigate town centre. The flame then continued through Dorking to end the day in Guildford before being taken to by Helicopter to spend the night in the Tower of London before its seven day tour of London ending at the Olympic stadium in Stratford for the opening ceremony on Friday 27th.
