One thing, his two worst matchups, neither is a swordy, tho they do have slight disjoints (cough gnw nair), but their key assets are difficulty of edgeguarding and absorbers.
Nah! You just gotta hit training mode for a while and start applying what you've labbed and take it slow and persevere. Should you choose to pick up the character, you'll lose a lot at the beginning but stick with him and you'll be rewarded
Quick note on thunderjolt: While it is true that if you buffer the tjolt while fullhopping you get to double jump after the tjolt and even confirm with aerials off of it, its actually faster and safer for pikachu to to not buffer the tjolt this way, and instead time it so that the tjolt animation ends just as you hit the ground after fullhop. Its a little weird to explain, but try it yourself and you will see what I mean. pikachu can actually get to the opponent noticebly faster this way because pikas ground speed is much higher than his air speed. On top of that, since you are on the ground earlier, you have quicker access to all your ground moves including shield making it easier to throw tjolts and even confirm off them at midranges instead of only far distances. both methods are used and the buffered method is useful as a mixup because it can confirm into landing nair, which confirms into grab, uptilt and especially downsmash and upsmash. Really good in depth video though, youve made a pika main really happy! Edit: I should also add its faster to spam consecutive tjolts with the non buffered method
N8 This is good to know, thank you for the heads up! (4 months later haha) Any advice for landing uair bridges without getting the landing lag on the fast fall parts?
@@FapasaurusRexx yeah you gotta wait a little before you do the fast fall. Input the second upair as early as possible and just wait a little bit before you fast fall so that you don't suffer landing lag.

This is all well and good when the enemy is NOT MOVING. A seasoned fighter would make this harder than what is shown. All & All this video is well organized, I learned a lot and enjoyed watching it.
This character takes so much concentration and skill, I literally had a FUCKING ANEURYSM WHILE PLAYING HIM ONLINE. Stupid fucking heavies spamming smash attacks and getting gimped
Then spam your thunder jolt from a distance and force them to come to you. You can also grab the heavy and try to keep them off the stage and edgeguard them.
There's an odd little thing that people don't expect where, if you down smash, and the opponent is hanging off a ledge, the very last hit lands, but none of the others
I had trouble with it at first too as a kid, you just gotta remember that his recovery moves up at an angle meaning if you want to do it twice you can't go in the same direction. Just practice it a bit.
yooo, thanks. I need to learn pikachu to counterpick my friend who plays joker now. pika is probably the first top tier that im legitimately going to learn
Good stuff - can I ask, is there any more nuance to how to effectively Thunder off the stage? Like, it seems like you pretty much have to double jump just prior to inputting down+B to halt Pika's momentum so that the lightning hits him/her. Is there a more reliable way to somehow get the lightning bolt to connect, aside from the obvious option of just stopping your movement in the air first? Furthermore, when thundering on the stage to try and hit opponents in disadvantage above you, is the best way to halt forward momentum from running a quick turnaround? Or just let off the D-stick for a few frames so you come to a stop first? Finally, do I understand correctly that unlike Pichu's thunder, Pika's thunder sends the opponent in either direction depending on what side of Pika they are on?
This is amazing, I’ve been a pikachu user since N64. I’m really hoping to get some help though. Every time I attempt the Jump and Tjolt I end up activating the side b special. Any tips? Is there a way to change the controls? Would love any advice!

Step 1: F-smash Step 2: Roll Step 3: Get Knocked Offstage Step 4: Put Down Your Controller And Ask Yourself "Why Am I Playing The Worst Designed Smash Character Off All Time?" Step 5: Get Edgeguarded
I find it weird how Pikachu is such a versatile character when in the anime all he ever does is Thunder Bolt, Iron Tail, and get knocked into walls.
Depending on who's playing him, that's all he does in smash too.

Art of Pikachu Tips and Tricks
Pikachu Gameplay Styles:
◦ Hyper-Aggressive

Pros:
Mobile
Quick
Hard to hit
Amazing Recovery

Light
Has no range
Whiffing is very bad
Good Matchups:
Characters with bad recoveries
Heavyweights
Bad Matchups:
Swordies
Neutral Game:
◦ Use Thunderjolt to condition opponent
◦ Controlling the pace of the game
✓ Defensive Thunderjolt
✓ Offensive Thunderjolt

1 -2 or 2 -1
Farthest Horizontal Recovery:
3 6 or -3 -6
Farthest Diagonal Recovery:
1/2 5
◦ Use Quick attack to get out of bad situations
◦ Use Quick attack as a 4th ledge get-up
◦ Throw Thunderjolts before landing
◦ Use Wall jumps on the ledge to mix-up
Skullbash/ Side B:
Secondary recovery option after losing all jumps
Used to stall landings
Trick: When the opponent is recovering low, jump off the stage and Skullbash towards the ledge while holding down to get a 2-frame
Trick 2: If someone is trying to 2-frame you, use Skullbash to stall and get below the stage, then use your double jump while the analog stick is in a neutral position, finally right after the jump, use Down-B. If executed correctly when under the opponent, the move they were trying to 2-frame with will be interrupted from Down-B, allowing you to safely recover with Quick Attack
Punish game:
Simple
D-Tilt is Pikachu’s main shield-poking tool
Shield-Poke Combos
D-Tilt Dash attack
D-Tilt Dashgrab
Combos:
U-Tilt U-Tilt U-air (any aerial)
D-Throw is combo throw
Landing F-air Grab
N-air:
Best combo starter from the air
Is used in the incredibly difficult “Pika Loops” Combo
At higher percents combos into U-Smash or D-Smash to kill
B-air:
Combos into self at low percents to drag opponents offstage
Can combo into Thunder if the opponent’s recovery direction is read
Can be used to stage spike opponents
Has a landing hitbox
Very good out of shield option
Trick: Walk off the ledge and B-air, which forces the opponent to tech or lose a stock
D-Throw:
Blue Glow shows DI direction
Best combo throw
Used in the Pika Loops Combo
U-air:
Has a strong hit for juggling
Has a weak hit for combos
Trick: It is possible to edgeguard using a falling U-air into Down-B (Thunder) for an offstage spike
◦ Final Challenge 1: Thunder Kill Confirm
(Only do when highly skilled as Pikachu)
Is a frame-perfect trick
U-Throw Down-B
◦ Final Challenge 2: Pika Loops Combo
Very Precise N-air loop that deals a lot of damage
D-throw S-Hop N-air
Dash Attack:
Kills at high percents
Can catch landings easily
VERY unsafe on shield
U-Smash:
Use out of shield if the opponent is in range
Use for Tech-Chasing
Has a super bad sour spot behind Pikachu during the move’s active frames
F-Smash:
Can do the same things U-Smash can do
Does not have a bad sour spot like U-Smash
Pulls Pikachu back on start-up
Lingers for 15 frames or 0.25 seconds
Running around and spamming this move is a strategy used in top tier play
Has a VERY long hitbox
Can be unpunishable in some match-ups
F-Tilt:
Can kill at the ledge at high percents
Can setup tech situations
Can 2-frame if done downwards at the ledge
U-Throw
Kills at high percents
How Pikachu gets kills:
Pikachu mostly get kills offstage
He rarely kills onstage
Moves to use for Edgeguards:
Offstage Down-B (Thunder)
Neutral-B (Thunderjolt)
U-air (only below the ledge)
N-air
D-air
F-air
B-air (only below the ledge)
F-Tilt (Facing downwards at the ledge)
F-Smash (When used at the ledge against horizontal recoveries)
B-Throw and F-Throw:
Used for positioning the opponent in front or behind Pikachu
Kill at VERY high percents
D-air:
Spikes at the first few frames of the move
Has a landing hitbox
D-Smash:
Little utility
Can be used against rolls from the ledge
U-Tilt:
Used in the Pika Loops Combo
Combos into self at low percents
Jab:
Used for Jab Locks when the opponent fails to tech
Can be used as an interrupter
Edgeguard Trick: If your edgeguard fails and you think you’ll get reversed on, it is never a bad idea recovering to the other side of the stage
Ledge Trap Trick 1: Use F-air if the opponent does a jump get-up from the ledge, or a neutral get-up from the ledge, if the opponent does a roll get-up and you are using F-air, you have enough time to react and get a grab
Ledge Trap Trick 2: F-Smash covers all ledge get-up options except a roll, unless it is spaced properly, but doing this makes it so it won’t cover a jump get-up from the ledge
Ledge Trap Trick 3: Using a jumping Neutral-B onstage behind the ledge can force the opponent to press a button at a specific timing, which allows for 3 types of punishes, for a roll get-up, do an out of shield B-air, for a neutral get-up, do a grab and follow up with whatever you want, for a jump get-up, use an U-air to possibly start an aerial combo
Ledge Trap Trick 4: If the opponent does a jump get-up and you fail to read it, use Quick Attack to predict where they land and then punish them
Pikachu’s Extra Mobility Moves
Can crawl
Can walljump
End of Notes
This is really useful, thanks!
Nice cheat sheet. Love it and thanks!

This video makes me so happy. Pikachu is one of my favorites and Id love to try and master him
Yeah, and i tested his/her damage output for each move
So basically... PIKACHU BUSTED!
This is all well and good when the enemy is NOT MOVING. A seasoned fighter would make this harder than what is shown.
All & All this video is well organized, I learned a lot and enjoyed watching it.
Art of getting mad over Samsora not playing friendlies with you
Oh god oh fuck my character got figured out.
3:12
Just an average fighting game technique input display, of course.
Never try sheik?
Esam wants to know your location.
For shaking your hand
Pikachu calls the thunderbolt and the moment after he touches it, he becomes shazamchu. Complete with a cape, sorry Edna.
There's an odd little thing that people don't expect where, if you down smash, and the opponent is hanging off a ledge, the very last hit lands, but none of the others
Glad to be a part of this ^-^
God damn izaw is really pumping these out
ESAM, ESAM IS THIS YOU?
no but seriously, this was a really good guide. thanks, Izaw :)
Will you do an Art of Fox one day?
Top tier content btw.
For the years I've played as Pikachu, I simply cannot nail his recovery move in Ultimate. No idea why.
It’s somewhat difficult but it’s pretty simple for the easy angle recoveries.
Full potential pikachu is going to be a monster.
Yes… he/she is a Pocket Monster

I just picked up Pikachu! THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!
This is cool and all...
But did you know that pikachu libre is a girl?1?1!
You can tell by the shape of the tail!!
Smash memes are stupid and annoying as fuck.
Oliver Xu lol
Oliver Xu it’s not a meme tho. Female pikachus have heart shaped tails, Libre has it. It’s a fact.
@@PSNMyfoot Facts can be memes too. :P
Best Pikachu guide that I've ever seen. Thanks a bunch mate!
Wow. I just started to pick up Pika again. Perfect timing.
Hooooly crap. I never knew the game told you the opponents di.
This is a game changer.
Search the comments for ESAM! I know he's here somewhere!
He's a pretty rare Pokemon to find in the comments.
This is amazing, I’ve been a pikachu user since N64. I’m really hoping to get some help though. Every time I attempt the Jump and Tjolt I end up activating the side b special. Any tips? Is there a way to change the controls? Would love any advice!
OMG OMG I never comment on youtube videos in general but thank you sooooo much for making an art of video for my main!! Pika BUSTED
Crawl back to your hole. The sun shines to brightly in RUclips comments.

Wow! Now I'll finally be able to say "I'm god-like" and "Pikachu is busted".
Love your vids! Still waiting for Art of Cloud
As a Pikachu main who has hundreds of hours on Pika, thank you Izaw. We all know how good ESAM is but his guides other than the loops and upthrow thunder videos have been very disappointing and this video has helped me IMMENSELY.
Between the 2, I play Pichu because he has the better Thunder (imo). Then I see this video pop up.
I can't believe you've done this.
i can relate to the sponsor at the beginning. i love playing overwatch on my turned off xbox 360
I'll sure need to rewatch this video a lot
Will you be doing anymore arts of smash izaw?
Really nice video, if you ever make a follow up can you talk more about pikachus cross ups?
What a pleasant surprise. I may not play pika but I watch regardless for the quality!
Art of...
Wii Fit Trainer, Mega-man, Olimar!
I never knew about the blue glow that shows DI that's useful omg
Damnit izaw. I already had problems with pikachu mains online. I don’t need to put up with even more pikachus online ya know? Lol
Art of little mac! I would like to see more people covering mac, i think he's a lot of fun despite being terrible
Step 1: F-smash
Step 2: Roll
Step 3: Get Knocked Offstage
Step 4: Put Down Your Controller And Ask Yourself "Why Am I Playing The Worst Designed Smash Character Off All Time?"
Step 5: Get Edgeguarded
