I think you are spot on about Floor respecting the original style of the song. You see that from her on all of the Nightwish songs of previous singers as well as her solo covers. Floor has an amazing ability, and intention, to make a song 'her own' while keeping what made it so good to begin with.
Everyone talks about the Wacken performance. But Tampere is probably my favorite Nightwish concert footage. The mix is just phenomenal.
If you enjoyed Kai Hahto's drumming in this song you should check out his drumming on Weak Fantasy also from Tampere. The singing is pretty good as well.

This song is actually from the second album of Nightwish called Oceanborn, which was released in 1998.
Loved your analysis of what Floor is doing vocally throughout this song. An oldie but a goodie. By the way, we finally have a new challenger to the Wacken 2013 show for the best Nightwish concert ever. On Saturday June 25th, I got to watch the live stream of Nightwish's hour-and-a-half performance before a crowd of 60,000+ at Hellfest 2022. I pity the band that had to follow them on stage. With Nightwish's permission, ARTE (French and German Television) posted the full concert video. Nightwish and Floor also commented on the video. I would love to see you react to this show.

LOL, 'they must sleep well after gigs', and I sleep well after listening to NW for an hour before going to sleep. It's kind of a lullaby to me, has some kind of 'cleansing effect' 🤘

She is honouring Tarja here by singing with operatic vowel modifications. That is a nice thing to do - she could have made it fully Floor.
Floor sings any song in what she feels is the best way for it. With Nightwish of course, she has the advantage of being able to talk to the composer.
Some people seem to mistake vibrato with operatic sound, which is absolutely NOT the case.
I usually describe it, simplistically, as adding a completely different colour than you would get in pop and rock, due to the different set of resonances that are in play.
Talking of Willow/LotR, try Elvenjig/Elvenpath from Buenos Aires.
Your opinion on Slaying the Dreamer from Buenos Aires would be interesting, particularly the very ending vocal. After an extremely intense vocal performance the final notes are some t
riplets that I suspect are rather difficult at the end of an energetic song towards the end of a Nightwish set.
Do yourself a favour and check it out.
This was one of the many Tarja era songs Annette couldn't really sing live. What's great about Floor is she can sing the ENTIRE NW catalog.

I love this track maybe because I'm Stargazer (amator/backyard astronomer) and lyrics are about Solar system in prefect harmony of music/guitar and angelic voice. Thank you!
I actually prefer the Tarja Oceanborn stargazers, but that is ‘preference’ not that Floor live is ‘not as good as’ . The simple fact is that Floor can take on the entire Nightwish songbook in whatever style she feels a song needs.

The band members are so happy, because this song had been silent for 10 years, since Tarja had left the band. The instrumentals in this high light every member the band. Kai's drumming(you mentioned), Tuomas and Emppu, note for note duos, and the running bass lines from Marko. Yes, Floor honored Tarja, keeping it old school. Probably never did Phantom of the Opera with Nightwish because it is really Tarja's and Marko's song. Tarja and Floor still remain good friends.
Actually she did do the phantom with Henk Porte. Also Annette didn't have the operatic chops.

I always felt like this may be Emppu's favorite- he's thrown the melody into his solos pretty regularly, during Sacrament of Wilderness and Planet Hell.

Thats really cool to know. I always wondered who did the instrumentation. I guessed she had the drums covered in house if she needed to. :) Tommy is an awesome musician and I only recently discovered how good a singer he is as well.

This is the second drummer Kai Hahto who took over in 2014 as the previous drummer, Jukka, who suffered terrible insomnia. The reason this song was off the set list for ten years was as you say written for Tarja and the intermediate singer Anette couldn't sing hardly any Tarja songs as she had a pop voice.

It is a classic from the time with Tarja as lead singer. It requires a trained soprano and therefore Anette could not sing it :-)

I find it so cool that this is the only popular song I can thing of where the key change is down rather than up at the end. Also it's an amazing song to get right after a few practice runs
