Okay I might gonna blow your mind by accident with this but is it crazy to say that Barbie version of Princess and Pauper follows the plot of Kingdom of the Sun (only without involved but still)? Then again both are based from Mark Twain's story so I shouldn't be surprised.🤷♀️
@@Merdicano It's still technically a scrapped song, since there was intended to be a version sung by characters in the Kingdom of the Sun before the film was revamped as Emperor's New Groove, removing it and other songs originating from the older project.
Nah, people would still notice, but I don't think that would even be a problem. Disney Theatrical really has a knack for doing things they wanted to do in their movies but couldn't, and I think Kingdom of the Sun would still be recognizably its own thing even if they kept the setting and a bunch of the characters the same. Plus I feel like stage would be a really great medium for this story!
How would they have Manco (Cuzco) transform into a llama and not make it look too goofy or unbelievable? Llamas are also integral to the original plot of KotS, I think that would also be difficult to do on stage.
I am happy with The Emperor's New Groove. But the deleted songs are so good I didn't understand how can they give up these songs easily. Good times of Disney. What a song and performance 2:42
I study Digital Animation, and I had the chance to met Joseph Gilland, a great man who worked in Disney, and he was working on "Kingdom of the sun", they lost a lot of money (about millions) because of Eisner. I was so shoked listening his story, I love so much "The Emperor's New Groove" but I would've loved to see "Kingdom of the sun" :'c
Pacha and Nina begin to grow closer as they visit the Virachocha stone. Manco overhears Nina's feelings and soon begins to feel bad about himself. Afterwards Pacha and Nina confess their love.
Going back and listening to this song, the beginning of it sort of reminds me of the song Englishman in New York (which is also written & sung by Sting)
I love the idea of Emperor's New Groove still having elements of the original plot, with Kuzco still being in love with a girl and including this song, along with Snuff Out the Light and Perfect World. If they had kept in most of the comedy, but stretched the movie out a little, it could have been a really good semi-musical. Plus, having Rascal Flatts as the Theme Song Guy would have been amazing!
@@Linkfan007 It was supposed to be in the first version of the movie, which was different to the final version by a lot! They couldn't use some of Sting's songs anymore that were written to support the original plot, but at least they are still on the soundtrack album.
@@Linkfan007 Yeah, this was supposed to be called Kingdom of the Sun: conceived by and directed by Roger Allers who co-directed The Lion King. Tonally similar to Lion King, Mulan and similar films like them but yet also unique in and of itself. Prince and the Pauper, too, albeit with ancient Incans. Yet, because it wasn’t working in its rough stages it became the film we know today. Without Roger Allers and Sting’s beautiful and complex original songs like this.
@KBAFourthtime It WAS in when the movie was "Kingdom in the Sun", but Pacha was still in that film, too. The plot of "Kingdom in the Sun" was pretty much going to be the "Prince and the Pauper" storyline--an emperor and a peasant who look alike switch places. Yzma was supposed to discover the switch and use the peasant as a puppet to do her bidding. She was also planning to use her magic to eternally blot out the sun (where "Snuff Out the Light" comes in) so she could stay beautiful forever.
Don't blame the film maker for the lost film "Kingdom of the Sun", blame Michael Eisner he's the one who made the film making disaster I also learned when "The Emperor's New Groove" was released in 2000 when he saw the movie...guess what? He HATED it even more.... He was a jerk I heard
"He walks in the room and I'm never quite sure if he's trying to be somebody else And liking him better that he's not his arrogant self..." So...this girl's the proto-Malina?
I love the part of the "until i die...our hearts stop beating and we are light"...Very tender... Although I like the lack of romance in ENG, I always wonder how actual Kingdom of the Sun would have come out...I would've prefered for Kuzco and Malina (appearing in the film) to have this as their song as they develop and struggle with each other than Pacha and the random bethrothed princess. The "good guy" getting the girl is overdone in Disney. I'd like a bit more struggle in the romance...
@KBAFourthtime (Continued) And as for this song, it was going to be sung by Pacha and the female love interest who was the emperor's betrothed. The girl at this point of the story would slowly be starting to genuinely fall in love with "the emperor" (Pacha) because she can see he's not as arrogant and self-absorbed as before.
Man, I love TENG but this would be an EPIC Disney love song! The next A Whole New World, Kiss the Girl, I See the Light etc.! Too bad that TKOTS never happened :(
I've heard other people say it before, so I'm just gonna pass it on... what if instead of rebooting old movies that were already perfect, Disney just tries reviving old movies that didn't work the first time and try again with a different approach?
originally Yzma wanted to destroy the sun and Pacha was a girl whom Kuzco fell in love with as a llama. Unfortunately that's the most I know about the original story but it sounded like it would have been amazing.
The original story was based on "The Prince and the Pauper". Kuzco and Pacha were the same age and looked alike, so they switched places. Yzma discovers the switch, turns Kuzco into a llama, and uses Pacha as a puppet to do her bidding. She plans to destroy the sun to prevent her from aging (the sun gives her wrinkles, so she assumes living in a world of darkness will stop this). This song in particular was to be sung by Pacha and a girl Kuzco was engaged to. Pacha is troubled because he's falling in love with the girl, but as an imposter, since he isn't really the emperor. The girl, meanwhile, is confused because she knew Kuzco before, and now "the emperor" (Pacha) seems kinder and less arrogant but she doesn't know why since the switch was a secret.
I learned that from the original "Kingdom of the Sun", after when Manco (Kuzco) got turned into a llama, while he was learning humility, he meets a female llama-herder name Mata and fall in love with her In the final version of this when the film was changed from "Kingdom of the Sun", "Kingdom IN the Sun" to "The Emperor's New Groove", Mata a female llama-herder was going to be Kuzco's love interest when he was a llama But at the end, they decided to not have her in the story Well it would be nice if the movie was a romantic/ buddy comedy and have this song added in the movie for Kuzco and Mata but I understand why they made that decision
@TheSlickAndroid yea i heard! the kingdom of sun would be amazing! but aparentely it got really poor reviews from test screeners. also, this would be a duet between kuzco and a leading girl that falls in love with him...that got deleted from the final movie. wait, kuzco is latino, so the girl would be latino. OMG, we would have a latino disney princess!!! :O *shakes fist* DANG YOU, TEST SCREENERS!!!!
This makes me wonder, what if Can You Feel The Love Tonight didn't make it into The Lion King? Or if Kiss The Girl didn't make it into The Little Mermaid.
@TheSlickAndroid That's a shame. And yeah, I would give anything to have the old disney back too. I'm sick and tired with all this High School Musical and Hannah Montana shit.
@EmperorsNewnewGroove You mean this was going to be in when the title was "Kingdom in the Sun", going to feature a female love interest, whom Pacha replaced?
I know a lot of you REALLY wish that they had finished Kingdom of the Sun, but listen, there's a REASON why it was doing terribly. All of this "sweeping, dramatic musical where a guy falls for a girl" stuff was starting to get cliche, so they remade it into a wacky, comedy, with no romance or musical numbers or anything. But yeah, I agree, this must've been a pretty good movie.
I love this song! It's too bad they had to gut Kingdom of the Sun to make The Emperor's New Groove. That being said, cutting out the romance and the prince and the pauper plot streamlined the movie into a great screwball comedy. They could base a movie around just the couple featured in this song. Movies like Dave and Kagemusha have a similar premise.
...Even if then the final film would have come out too similar to Princess and the Frog (spoiled lazy prince, doesn't get along with the girl, transformation, trip, they struggle and start getting along...) Whatever.
Listen, I love The Emperor's New Groove, but I would've loved to see this version, too.

Maybe Disney should make a movie on the scrapped concept instead of making live action remakes
It's a shame the song had to be scrapped, it's absolutely beautiful in every aspect.
Well, it wasn't exactly scrapped, it still was part of the soundtrack, just wasn't shown in the actual movie, that's all
@@Merdicano It's still technically a scrapped song, since there was intended to be a version sung by characters in the Kingdom of the Sun before the film was revamped as Emperor's New Groove, removing it and other songs originating from the older project.
i think Kingdom of the Sun should be a Broadway musical
