Brother, I used to work for a Big 4 Firm, for Deloitte, in the Audit Department specifically on FSI Audits - Funds, Insurance and Banks). I only joined a Big 4 Firm after getting my Masters degree as its "good" for your CV. I honestly don't understand the appeal for working in a Big 4 Firm - I used to work extra long hours, no overtime and to be frank, for shit pay. The business model of Big 4 Firms is as follows: pay “low level employees” (seniors/senior associates) who make most of the work on audit engagements mediocre wages and make extremely high profit margins on them when charging clients by the hour. I left after two years. I now work as an accountant in industry earning more than double than what I used to make at Deloitte.
I feel your frustration man. I do feel KPMG played a big part in getting me into Booth just for the name and I personally did learn a lot my time there. I probably could’ve made more money somewhere else but I believe it will even out at the end given the experience and the resume boost it will provide me in the future. I will say I never felt as if I was being overworked so I guess I just got lucky…
Just got laid off in a large round of Deloitte auditors. Sucks. I have my CPA license and had been receiving good performance evals. Awesome for you to be going to school.
I thought you were going to count lots of negatives of working at KPMG and I was shocked since getting 100.000k just in the third year without any intense overworking...damn, what else do you need 😂
