My great-grandfather was a German fighting on the allies' side during WW2. He was sent with two Americans to some German-occupied town that had surrendered. They were supposed to go there to have the germans hand over their weapons and prepare them for when the american ships would come the next day. After the german soldiers handed their weapons over, everyone went to a bar and partied all night. My grandfather had his violin with him, and since he grew up in germany, he knew all the folk tunes that the young soldiers were familiar with. He spent the night playing these for them, everyone danced and sang and had a grand old time. When the americans came the next day, everyone surrendered peacefully.
Interesting fact: After the truce, they had to go back to fighting each other, but most of the soldiers wouldn’t fight because they met and became friends with that the other side so then the captains of that area were getting angry and they moved a lot of their soldiers to different trenches to fight in the war still.

For those of you, you don’t know who don’t know the Christmas truce of 1913 was in event in germans couldn’t find a Christmas tree so they snuck past no man’s land to get one. They also realize that they wanted some alcohol so then they tried stealing one from the French when the French realize that the Germans were Germans they didn’t care they just gave them the alcohol and let them leave freely the next day both France and Germans came out of their trenches and made a truce for Christmas and that time of the truce they built snowman they drink together they had snowball fights and and so forth. This is how powerful Christmas is.
Although unrelated, my great-grandfather fought for the British Army in both world wars. He fought primarily in Africa and died sometime in the 60s. May his legacy live on.
1914 on Christmas day. On the western front the guns all died away and lying in the mud on bags of sand. We heard a German sing from no man's land. He had a tenor voice so pure and true. The words were strange but every note we knew. Soaring or the living dead and dammed, the Germans sang of peace from no man's land. They left their trenches and we left ours. Beneath tin hats smiles bloomed like wild flowers with photos, cigarettes and tons of wine. We built a soldier's truce on the front line, their singer was a lad of twenty one. We begged another song before the dawn. And sitting in the mud with blood and fear, he sang again the song all longed to hear. Silent night, no cannons roar. A king is born of peace for evermore. All's calm, all's bright. All brothers hand in hand. It's gas and rusty wire in no man's land. And in the morning all the guns boomed in the rain. And we killed them and they killed us again with Bayonet, bullet gas, bomb and flame. And neither we nor they at all to blame. There was heavy fighting throughout the day, for one night's peace we bloodyly did pay, that night they charged we fought them hand to hand. And I killed the boy that sang in no man's land. Silent night, no cannons roar. A king is born of peace for evermore. All's calm, All's bright. All brothers hand in hand. And that young soldier sings. And the song of peace still rings. Though the captains and all kings, Built in no man's land. Sleep in heavenly peace.
I started crying for no reason when I started watching it, because people had to freaking lose their fights for nothing. This is a great example that peace is in us. 😭😭😭😢😢😢 Edit: I'm back here only scrolling randomly though shorts and came across this again I'm happy that many people liked this comment.

Miraculously he regained consciousness of the paralyzed side of his body. Thank you Great grandpa, I know the country did not become what you thought it would have or perhaps it was not the country you thought you were fighting for, but I appreciate you and all the men in our family line who joined and fought in the army. in 8th grade in cbse, english, we had this chapter: "The best Christmas present in the world". I cried that day on learning the chapter.
I also had this in my english book..cbse ya uk... now im in 11th... really this is wholesome...❤
It had brought tears to my eyes as well, specially the old Conny's part(that's what Jim's wife's name is I think) where she thought that that man was her Jim. But Jim was long gone...

What's sad is the next day they went back to killing each other..
The war began in 1914
@@georgespaceagency9894 Fun Fact both sides were moved to different parts because they were all intentionally missing their shots.
I thought it was uk and Germany
Btw it was Franco Prussian war I think

I mean that's not true. As a soldier, ideally you do dislike what is in front as well. Otherwise you are fighting in a war for no reason.
That's not true soldiers are taught to hate their enemy and not see them as human but beasts a true soldier hates his enemy I know this because I served in the military

My great grandfather was a captain in WW2. He got 2 Purple Hearts because he evacuated a Jewish family in hiding from the Nazi and also survived a stab to the back of his neck from a Nazi while playing dead (was paralyzed on his entire left side ( I believe ) and his pictures include him with his cane. Miraculously he regained consciousness of the paralyzed side of his body. Thank you Great grandpa, I know the country did not become what you thought it would have or perhaps it was not the country you thought you were fighting for, but I appreciate you and all the men in our family line who joined and fought in the army. I love you so much even though I never met you and you have my greatest respects, as does every single American soldier who fought in WW2.
May your great grandfather's soul rest in peace
Not just every american soldier every soldier.
We dont even have to talk about the things that happened in the Rheinwiesenlager.

My great-grandmother had to leave Italy because of the Nazis in 1943, they were strong and managed to escape to Brazil and this story is passed down from generation to generation.

Not correct, the richest ones always make big money on wars. And the ones who lose pay reparations. Destruction brings necessity of investments. That's how capitalism works. Crisis-war-destruction-investments-reconstruction-new crisis. Cycle.
