He gave names and dates at his will. While we can laugh at his audacity tell us history, we should also appreciate his collection, retention and making them available to us all.
Umm. Actually it wasn't. The only thing you don't see is plastic. There were no well developed sewage pipes and all that used to flow in drains near road and used to get collected nearby. Infact in many villages nowadays where there is no sewage pipes you can see how dirty they are.

For ex : you see pyramid of Giza(Egypt) , the structure of the monument is so accurate and perfect even at that ancient period.
