One day, upon their return from the Crimson Demon Village, Kazuma, and his companions received a letter. Its contents expressed Princess Iris's desire to hear the adventure tale of Kazuma and his party, who had defeated the general of the Devil King's army. Accompanied by her escorts and educators, Claire and Rain, Princess Iris visited the city of Axel.
They thought their meeting with Kazuma's party had ended peacefully, but..."You promised me you would tell me more adventure stories, didn't you?" Princess Iris had become attached to Kazuma!? When Kazuma opened his eyes, he found himself in none other than the royal capital!
As he stayed at Princess Iris's request, he became captivated by the luxurious life in the royal castle and decided to take advantage of the opportunity and stay. However, around the same time, a series of incidents involving a righteous thief began to unfold in the royal capital...

Although I prefer the manga version of kazuma's outfit the anime did great work making kazuma cool none the less Manga masked kazuma is LEAGUES better and cooler
Edit: Yeah I agree that Chris looks cooler than her manga ver, But I expected the anime to make their outfits to look somewhat like their manga counterparts
Chris thief design is much better here than the manga version tho

In LN vanir mask is just an excuse to let his confidence rose up
And this episode didn't adapted it well, there's so many things they excluded like
1. Kazuma eliminates Katsuragi thinking it will let the soldiers moral down if he finish him 1st so Kazuma used combo spell Create Water + Freeze in Katsuragi Face and saying he will not get killed. . . Maybe if they help him. Immediately
2. There's no mages here it's just rain
In LN there's equal of mages and soldiers and Chris is the one who handles mages and while kazuma handles close quarters combat
3. While fleeing to Iris location Claire said to rain to kill all of the enemy in the way using aoe magic including ally soldiers whos in the way saying aqua can just revive them then rain starts to chant the magic and before she finishes it Kazuma used snipe to destroy the orb in the wand of rain causing rain to cry a lot lmao (I love this scene)
And last
3. Kazuma used combo spell Create Earth + Wind Breath to blind all the soldiers to get where iris location is
And here's bonus
Before the Castle Raid that fkn btch Claire said to Kazuma that he's so incompetent so she will try to recruit Kazuma party to join katsuragi
That's one of the reasons why he accepts Chris invitation to infiltrate the castle
He straight up into villain without reason in anime while the ln give kazuma NTR vibe revenge in comedy genre 😅
I completely forgot that he employed the power of pocket sand
Just want to correct that it's not Katsuragi. But Mitsurugi. Mitsurugi Kyouya lol.
Anyway, I agree that the LN is several times cooler here. I know that they can't fit all details in anime. But it's still sad that arguably the best volume in the LN got simplified too much like this.

all kazuma thief momen was cooler in the manga. dont get me wrong in the anime is not bad its just difernt. in manga thief kasuma is more calm and accurate. he actually beat Mitsurugi, Clare and the mage girl by him self. also there is another manga episode when kazuma meets Dust, they exchange Party because Dust says somthing like "that weak adventurous is the pet of the party" because Dust was actually jealous about Lord Kazuma is always arround by beauties.

This makes more sense in the light novel and manga... Crimsom Demons love black and red for outfits and Kazuma was all clad in black, plus his gear and the mask, there was no transparent or colorful anything... But the director of the anime is so hellbent on making everything "funny"...
It is what it is. I’ve already accepted the light novel is the best way to consume this story. As much as I appreciate the work the voice actors have done to bring the Konosuba characters to life, I still enjoy the books more.

Man... did they get a new director? Someone that's just in it for the money? Cause this episode was such a huge letdown. They didn't include so many things that are integral to the story going forward, even towards the end of the story. What happens in this part of the story is even part of the other side stories in Dust's light novels. They really screwed the pooch on this one. Badly!
What "integral" things? I've read the lightnovel and I have no idea what you're talking about.
It's always like that from season 1. So many skipped content that's actually quite important.
