The wholesale co-opting of the journal by food company special interests is a huge red flag alerting us to the need for serious administrative reform here in the U.S., because you know this nonsense is influencing policy. Thanks for shining a light on this, Doc!
One can turn that light onto any economic activity and see this dynamic in action. Freedom of speech has quite literally been redefined by the courts to mean bribery while actual speech is suppressed.
Nuts are great if you eat the recommended serving size, but unfortunately nuts are addictive for many people.
That does it! I'm eating nuts and seeds with my Twinkie and Ding Dong diet.
Mmmm 😋 sounds good to me.
Always good to check who's involved in the study. Gotta remember to read the small print.
This is appalling. It should be a crime to deliberately mislead the public in this way. Especially by respected scientific journals.
That's nutz! 🥜🥥
Now we know we can't respect this journals. Can we still call it a scientific journal?
All "red meat is not dangerous" studies are always doing this trick, often they dont even mention by what they replace it

Hospitals and schools should be places where good nutrition is taught and provided .
It is crazy the hospitals are feeding people the very food that caused the heart disease, high blood pressure or cancer that they are treating. Every person in the hospital should receive some nutrition education before being released. Every doctor visit should be an opportunity to educate patients about how food choices impacts their health outcomes. The fact that doctors do not get nutrition training as part of their training makes no sense. Medicare and Medicaid should require nutrition education as part of patient care.
I love nuts. Fresh unsalted nuts. The flavour the texture, the variety.
It's nice to know that in addition to the pleasure of eating them, there's also the short, medium and long term health benefits...
They are the best if you put them in a dehydrator for 24 hours same flavor but crispy no caricogen forming
I like salted nuts
Dr Esselstyn recommends avoiding nuts
@@user-xw9ro6ge1m Dr Esselstyn is a know nothing clown when it comes to nuts and nutrition.
Ok, VEGETARIAN diets, that means including dairy. But what's about vegan diets in comparison regarding nut consumption?
And eggs and even junk food often.
I have never seen a study that looked at people eating more nuts than the recommended amount and what the impact was. I've never seen justification for the serving size.
Yeah why would you..
Everything in moderation
@@G-rig6969 because we need to understand what is moderation and what is the correct serving size.
I find it extremely hard to eat nuts in moderation, they're addictive and moreish to me in a way no other food is lol I, for one, would be very interested in knowing whether it's better to carry on eating nuts "immoderately" or to cut them from my diet entirely and start avoiding them like the plague, as I can't trust myself if they're around :P
@@e.f.3703 thanks for commenting. Isn't it odd that we've NEVER had a test putting a group that eats x amount of nuts against a group that eats y amount of nuts and see what the health benefits are? I have watched and watched and read and read and still NO TESTS. Why????
Good. I eat something like 400 calories worth of mixed nuts almost every day.
Very informative, thank you!
Magnesium content...
Again, expertly done. Very high quality content channel. Appreciate your work!
What ?
Merci !
I love this channel!
I tend to wonder away from heathy eating,,, but always turn to your sight to hear you take on the studies. Pointing out the truth behind the info. Thx again
What's the mechanism?
I don't understand any of these. So is nut good or bad?
Nuts are good.
As always With these studies I wonder what kind of nuts, and raw or roasted?
Check the links in the top comment. They talk about different ways you can eat nuts, and it basically says whichever way makes you eat more of them.
....that's nuts....! 🥜😂✨

There is a big problems: most vegetarians eat dairy, eggs and even junk foods.
So we would need a video: "Are the Health Benefits of Nuts Limited in vegetarians group to the ones eating Dairy and/or eggs and/or junk foods?"
Why would that be?
Dr. Greger mentioned in the video that the benefits of nut consumption apply regardless of diet quality.
@@doudline2662 It would be because this have been studied in the video in vegetarian group(in the chart) who eat foods well known to increases LDL cholesterol like eggs, dairy and even vegan junk foods.
The occasional vegan junk food isn't gonna kill anyone.
@@to819 Nope but we cant say it will decreases LDL cholesterol and improve health neither, quite the opposite.
Agreed. I would love to see the benefits of increased nuts in those who eat WFPB vs those who are veg or vegan but not WFPB, and those who eat animal products. The difference could be that the latter groups all show a difference when swapping fats from animal products and/or vegetable oils for fats in nuts (a whole food). And it could even be that the effect only shows up for the vegans if they’re swapping high-saturated fat content oils (coconut and palm) for nuts, and that no or little effect shows up when reducing olive oil and increasing nuts (effect on LDL I mean…refined oil may still show other harms). I’d really love to see more studies around all health issues where those eating WFPB are included.
Wow, wild stuff, insightful. Brilliant, even? I'm not qualified to make that claim, but I like it.
Sprouted nuts are best (I've learned from the good doctor) I get the Go Raw brand. Thank you Dr. Gregor your name is the first thing I mention when talking about nutrition to someone.
This video was provided by Dr. Michael Greger, founder of nutrition facts. He provides information on RUclips about different matters relating to diet. The common theme is that he promotes a whole food plant and fungus based diet. So if you're interested in any of that you can explore other videos from his channel or even visit his website.
Love their watermelon seeds sprouted
Did they control for the dairy in that vegetarian study? Maybe they swapped dairy with nuts and that's why their mortality decreased?
Wow. This is disgusting. What a bunch of slime balls. Thanks for letting us know.
Sustaining Partners Ha Ha Ha. Made me laugh.
Who else got triggered to want Twinkies and dingdongs after seeing that delicious picture? 🤦🤣
I have to admit those ding dongs brought back old memories even though our love affair stopped 11 years ago.
Dear Dr Greger. Could you please tell me if you need to take folic acid with b12 for absorption. I thought just eating plenty of leafy vegetables would be enough. Many thanks Tony.
You get over the top folic acid blood lvl on blood work if you plenty of fruits, vegtables and greens.
That’s some nutty factoids doc!
What about comparison to vegans?? People who don’t have dairy eggs
What about nuts VS seeds in this case.
how many nuts are too many?
👏🏻
Damn, their dispair is real
Wow, thanks for that I love nuts but i think nut butter is not quite so good?
as long as its not roasted its literally the same thing
some may say "whole nut pieces feed beneficial gut bacteria" but thats strange to assume cuz thats like saying "chewing less is better than chewing thoroughly"...which of course...is....strange to assume 😒
You're right and there is videos from Nutrition facts showing studies which show that whole foods perform better then processed ones. Even when processing is simply making nut butter or simply grounding to flour.
@@sooooooooDark my understand is the process of making nut butter leaves the oils and fats much are bioavailable, leaving nut butter for example closer to oil than whole plant foods. With the plant cell wall crushed and all the fat readily able to be absorbed, more will gain weight, and we all know what issues that leads to.
Also, much nut butter is mixed with hydrogenated oils which have trans fats which is one of the worst things you can eat.
@@sooooooooDark You are right to some degree S. Dark but the processing of nut butters will often entail quite a bit of heat which will often create many more glycotoxins (Advanced glycation end products), and the moment you denature the plant matrix/structure general rancidity will also be much more near at hand, and storage in transparent vessels further exasperates this issue; all in all, unless you are buying extremely high quality nut butters from very expensive boutique producers; you will be enjoying products which are likely to be less salubrious than whole, well-shaped, blemish free/fair nuts.
@@ComradeAlAtivan nut butter per definition is only 1 ingredient (at least here in germany)...aka the nut in question
"nut cream"s can contain oil sugar and other stuff
Thats nuts!

really? Fish is worse than beef or chicken......I'm having trouble believing that one......
That is not the conclusion in any way.
it is worse, look at what fish does to TMAO levels, and the environmental pollutants in fish...yikes
@@jonnenne ok......so what was the conclusion???
@@spliter227 ok, I understand the fresh water fish pollutants, but the lower chain salt water fish are not as polluted if at all....or at least not having mercury levels that are dangerous........I also get the mixing of the high starch and fish is a no no, but I still find it hard to believe that fish somehow is worse at causing CVD...
Fish and seafoods are all much healthier than any meats.
That journal...wtf
But fish are associated with decreased mortality, so in not sure it matters, and does the increased risk markers include apoB?
The highest ranked because they’re the hardest journal to get published by.. unless your paper shows eggs aren’t bad for you. 😂
So nuts are good??

I do get walnuts almost daily but any other nuts have so much fat, I gain unwanted weight.
"Walnuts are the blueberries of the nut world," so by all means, continue eating them.
Weight is about caloric balance.
If you want to add nuts to your diet, eat a little bit less of other caloric foods: grains, legumes, starchy veggies, fruits.
@@doudline2662 weight is about fat content in foods. Nobody gets that.
@@doudline2662 eliminate all those healthy foods for nuts? Are you?
Walnuts is one of the highest fat content nuts though.
eating vegan ding dongs while watching this 🤣
You have to laugh about how inadvertently successful they were in proving the mythical “lean meats” are just as bad for cardiovascular health as beef
Well, if they were adding butter and stuff to match the saturated fat content, like they said, I guess they were not that lean anymore
If you put 2 nuts on the wall what would you have? Walnuts?
If you put 2 nuts on a chest what would you have? Chestnuts?
