I respect Yuri for his “blind love” of Italian cars! Cars are an emotional decision with practicality getting in the way. Everyone watching car videos wishes for indulgence, but most can’t afford it and find themselves driving a toaster.
Thank you!
My wife's Giulia has been at the dealer getting fixed for just about half of the time that we've owned it. Weirdly, it still one of the my favorite cars that I've ever owned still. I think Alfas automatically come with Stockholm Syndrome from the factory. @@TheStraightPipes
For $70k it better freakin work!! 😄
its emotional thing for rich people.
Blind for sure
As an European that is considering this car, I was waiting for your review!
It’s hilarious that everyone is focusing so much on the dodge connection… what on earth is a dodge and why aren’t dodge people honored that their brand is sharing a model with Alfa Romeo?!
"When it works it's nice". 😄 This is the *perfect* summary of every Alfa ever made.
What a bunch of BS,I'm on my second and I've never had less problems with a car owning them. On the other hand,a shitty VOLVO with the "indestructible" 5 cylinder engine was sent to the scrapyard. So much BS online every fucking day
Nothing works forever, even the sun will explode in a few billions years, it all depends on how you measure it.
I’m on my second Alfa. First was a GTV in the 80’s and now a Giulia Quadrifoglio. Both absolutely fantastic cars and completely reliable. I’ve had many many cars throughout my life and the worst in reliability was a volvo v50 and almost all my BMW’s except for my e30 325i.
@@vlajsterI 100% agree.
Too much prejudice on Italian cars.
Nowadays a Benz or BMW are not much more reliable than an Alfa. I really hate that snobbery towards Italian products.
False, the giulia and stelvio are fine
Ah the toenail, the only thing that surpasses the unlimited breadsticks at Olive Garden.
They really fucked up with that name
Is “Toenail” not a complimentary gift provided with every full family meal served at “The Garden”?
Breaks like a breadstick as well
This car might need a pedicure before Olive Garden 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I've the 1.5 Turbo mild hybrid with 23k km right now. Not a single problem, amazing car and no lag on the infotainment.
Alfa has excellent reliability, I have a quadrifoglio and have not had a single issue.
I love Yuri’s Unrelenting Defense Of Italian Cars. Mans a true Enthusiast of cars with Soul…
I laugh at it
I have one. Only issues I've had is with the direct sunlight. The rest are non-present. My infotainment is snappy and I have zero gauge lag. Hopefully that continues, but I've been very happy with it, going on 4000k miles.
😂 direct sunlight
Lol yeah but I can honestly say it's happened maybe twice and went off shortly there after.
As some who has a Hornet GT+ same no issues at all but direct sunlight and rain the front sensor turns off. Apparently there will be an over the air update soon to fix that.
Same here. Infotainment and cluster are fast and snappy in my testing.
As always I'll offer my experience with Alfa Romeo reliability, just in case it convinces anyone reading this to get one. My moms 2018 Giulia Veloce that we have since new, 70k+ km on the odo, basically 0 issues. It once changed the infotainment language to german for about 20 seconds after sitting in the Italian sun on a trip in the middle of summer (40 degree celsius weather) and that's the most glaring problem I can think of. Car gets used in all weathers and conditions and is dead reliable no matter if it's freezing outside or it's getting pushed hard on twisty roads on the hottest days of summer. Amazing to drive.
What an endearing video today! The taunting, the smirks, the back and forth between you. The illumination of individual personality traits that long time viewers know so well about you! Such a GREAT interaction caught on camera, such fun to watch. Priceless!
Oh no!!! Now they're going to break up! First The Beatles, now this.
A couple years ago I was thinling of getting a Stelvio, but the Alfa dealer in my city had just closed down. So I contacted all of the Dodge dealerships in the area and asked if they could service the Alfa. The answer every time was an emphatic “no.”
where are u?...all dodge dealers in my city can work on Alfa's as long as they are passed warranty
Rip. I have 6 in my area
Our local dodge dealer can do an oil change on my stelvio but that's about it. Everything else i have to go to an alfa dealer.
I saw one driving yesterday, it’s actually nicer in person somehow.
Sounds like its a head shaker for owners, but a head turner for everyone else.
Tbh, Alfa's are always head turners for me. The designs are always top notch IMO👍.
The fact that Alfa and Dodge are sharing this platform is just tragic.
It’s not the first time, and it won’t be the last.
The whole damn car to be precise 😂
It's all the same company, no one complained about Ford/Lincoln/Mercury. Dodge fans just don't want to admit their cars are Italian.
@@BurtMcNasty no, Italians don't want to admit their cars are American lol
I think the tragedy is more on the Italian side than on the American. It's a blessing that Dodge, Chrysler and Plymouth are still around.
Ask the rest of the world outside the States and u probably would get this answer
The whole collision warning while driving into the sun problem is one I've experienced in several modern cars, I don't think it's alfa specific
Commented the same, happens in any Mazda I've owned.
That would make sense since Alfa is sourcing all of those components
I traded in my Guilia for a 2024 Tonale and the dealership gave me an amazing offer off the MSRP. So far knock on wood none of these issues have happened to me and I have over 1000 miles on mine. 😊 My Guilia also gave me no problems for the whole 3 years of driving it, I’m definitely a fan of Alfa’s coming from a long line of owning Mazdas. ❤
Not sure I could ever trade my Giulia for an SUV...that's just upsetting
True can’t compare an Alfa with Mazda. I had a Mazda 3 in 2013 brand new and it gave me nothing but trouble I sold it immediately when the warranty expired. My Giulia on the other hand has been perfectly reliable. Plus the driving experience of an Alfa is on another level compared to the Mazda
We can't give these toenails away at our Dodge Jeep RAM Alfa Romeo dealership. We have a ton of them with $10,000+ off MSRP and people still aren't convinced. And yes they have been awful with reliability even though they have not been out very long. These are the cars we stuff folks into that have bad credit and or tons of negative equity and are willing to buy anything.
always enjoy you guys video thank you for taken your time out to share your experience with these beautiful cars
I like the chemistry between those 2 guys. Great video 😊
To be fair, my Audi also has issues with direct sunlight and lane keep assistance.
every car does, it's just some have a wider threshold before giving off warnings to benefit the perceived quality, which Alfa has always historically been ignorant about
None of my cars have had this issue.
Alfa had it’s 21st century peak with the Giulia and Stelvio, amazing cars. This is the complete opposite. As a life long Alfa enthusiast and ex-Giulia owner I took a test drive in the Tonale, and after 5km I knew this is just a massive POS.
Indeed. That Giulia is just amazing. Looks so good. So far reliability seems pretty okey for those.
It's marketed towards women for what that's worth, but yeah diluting the brand nonetheless. At least it really is pretty especially in that green, unlike most cars these days
Absolute Zustimmung
Same here. I actually drove the Tonale test car to another dealership to check on a new interesting model they had in. Tonale was such a PILE.
That seems like an unfair comparison! How does the Tonale compare to the Alfa Romeo Giulietta hatchback (or Dodge Dart sedan), it's immediate non-SUV predecessor? Or to an Alfa Romeo Mito? It seems most unfair to compare Giorgio rear wheel drive platform Alfas to FIAT-based front wheel drive Alfas! Think of the Tonale as an Alfa-ised version of the FIAT 500X or Jeep Renegade, or an SUV upgrade on the current FIAT Tipo (Dodge Neon). [It's a huge shame that Alfa have decided on Tonale (CUV only) and cancelled the Giulietta (hatchback body style) but I digress!]
The Volvo EX30 seems to be a more compelling package for the price. I just can't get over the fact that this is a Dodge Hornet, even though this came first. Gremlins at that mileage point are inexcusable as well.
Also, the amount of people saying I "drive a toenail" would eventually drive me nuts - would have to debadge that part.
Color is phenomenal, wheels too!
You’d have to learn how to pronounce its name properly
Its an alfa, dodge took it.
I saw this green color at the NYAutoShow and I agree, best green ever!
This Tonale is the Olive Garden equivalent of Italian.
That is to say, it is Italian by name but not by heritage. The only *_true_* Alfa Romeo's are the Giulia, Stelvio, 4C and the highly coveted 33 Stradale.
Many of us are still hoping that Alfa Romeo will release their next sports car successor [the 6C] sooner than later. Hate to see Alfa jump on the EV boat. After all, it _is_ a sinking ship.
_"When I see an Alfa Romeo go by, I tip my hat."_ *~Henry Ford*
Stay classy my friends.
When I had a Stelvio, I was getting service at a joint Dodge-Alfa-Jeep dealership. My loaners were all Jeep Renegade & Compass. I did try the Fiat-Mazaratti dealership, which services Alfa. Their loaners were all Beats edition Fiat 500. Service was pretty similar with only difference was the Italian dealership was next to a park not on dealership row.
same issues when stelvio and giulia came out, all the lights came up within 1000 miles, but I enjoyed my 2023 stelvio now. no issues at all.
Evokes the Dodge Omni my family owned in my childhood when I see the rolling shots 🔥
For $73k CDN, I’d pick a Durango R/T, Citadel, or R/T Plus. I get it that they dont compete directly, and have VERY different fuel consumption. But you get seating for 2 more, a big 5.7l v8, more offroad capabilities, and more room for less money. Plus theres a lot more Durangos out there if you need parts. You gonna be waiting a while for parts backordered from Italy.
Great review. Having testing this for some time now, here were a few other points of feedback:
- In N (normal / natural) mode, the Tonale blows through it's electric charge, leaving you wanting for power when it runs out. This usage should be baseline in the A (advanced efficiency) mode. Definitely a software tweak required to balance out both engine uses.
- The 1.3T gas engine runs significantly better with premium - better power delivery and fuel economy. Tested with all levels (91/94/98) and it is a night and day difference. Alfa is doing customers a disservice by not recommending it.
- Why is the ability to enable adaptive damping disabled in N mode (and only available in D)?
- There is no ability to change the regen braking strength in each mode. D mode automatically enables aggressive regen (which can't be adjusted) which makes cruising in this mode a chore.
Correct on all accounts. The lack of ability to change suspension (and regen) has been an Alfa / Maserati / Ferrari thing forever
Hey guys, I too love the wheels, did you notice at the 9:09, 14:07 and 16:34 parts of your video the light hitting the wheels gives it a “halo” look..further demonstrating who awesome the wheels are…
Exactly!!!!
Sad to see bugs are still rampant. My wife got rid of her jeep compass because the bugs got so bad it started rolling the windows down in the cold. 5 years later and the issues just moved to a new body.
Underneath it’s still a Chrysler product
I shopped the Alfa Giulia a few years ago and in the Ft Myers market, they shared the Fiat dealership across the lot from the Stellantis dealership. And the experience was 100% Fiat. Still interested a few years later after we moved to another city and drove another one against a 330i and it just couldn’t compete. 3 Series is so much more refined. Loved the styling though, but glad I didn’t pull the trigger in retrospect, especially in this car market.
The Tonale came a little too late. Crossover plug in hybrid with low electric range is a tough sell these days. Especially at that price they're asking!
Its actually got one of the highest all-electric ranges for a PHEV in this class.
Yuri starting the video off saying “Italian cars have done nothing wrong everyone should buy them” is like saying everyone should try eating tide pods at least once if your life because it never hurt anyone 😂
Man your intro songs always wins 😁
For a small crossover, this is a handsome car!
The perfect car to take to the La Rose Bakery on Bronte Street for jalapeno sourdough bread and the 20 foot long desert counter. The hot lunch counter is nice too lol.
That price... is more than what I thought it was going to be.
What an endearing video today😀
reliability that’s the thing makes me love Japanese cars!
oh what a original human being go eat a glue or something
@@ismailbeygirci9394 All the flavours of the rainbow and you choose to be salty. Why?
Soul - you’ll never understand.
Yeah, like the 2 million Toyota recalled this week and the 2 million Honda's recalled as well. Those Japanese cars are fantastic!
@@23Piccolina anecdotal :^) a recall last week doesn't have any bearing on long term recall and reliability trends.
My dad got this it looks real good but the shift knob and driving suck mad balls but the mileage is great tho very nice city car for tight roads while remaining somewhat practical (way less practical and more boring than the stelvio we had)
$73,000?!?!?!? That’s insane
Canadian
@@InnovatinatorType I know, that’s too much money
I seem to remember another review complaining that the Toenail's lane keep assist sucks and can't be turned off - probably a good thing that it's broken on this example.
I live in Buffalo so at least I’ll never have to worry about that sun glitch for 7 straight months.
It happened to me in Toronto in December. So you do need to worry lol
I've loved the look of Alfas since The Graduate.
Those wheels are perfect
You got me with the title, I was legit just not going to bother watching it.
The collision system warning is interesting because we recently had the Dodge Hornet to test and my wife noticed the exact same thing. Good to know you found a cause… although I’m not sure that makes it ok. 😂 Also the rear view mirror on our Hornet just didn’t move. Like at all. For no reason….
Interesting!
The wheels look sick in shot while turning
Heh. CDJR tech here. You didn't experience but if you attempted to turn the wheel with the vehicle off the electric power steering would've lost its calibration and you would've had yet another warning light on until it was re-learned. We had them broken coming off the truck, was wild. There's an update out now to prevent it from happening though
It’s so funny to hear about North Americans complaining about Fiat’s reliability, in Brazil the cars are tank-like
Still miss my 156 berlina in Grigio Sterling with a stunning red leather interior
I have a 2018 Giulia QV. I absolutely adore the car and it's been a dream. That said, it has the same sun problems, a lesser blower motor sound, and some other funky things. It's nothing serious and in my eyes it gives the car character. If I wanted something to work all the time and have no character I wouldn't have bought an Alfa :)
i live in italy. if you were to tell engineers that front assist would not work when car is facing to the morning sun they would say "what do you expect car cant see the road" he just woke up stop breaking his balls
Merry Christmas guys!
gee I wonder why people look at the $70k price, consider the catastrophic depreciation, lack of dealer network, hybrid weirdness…and pick a crew cab truck instead…Not saying I love it, but people aren’t stupid & will try to maximize bang for buck, perpetuating our Large Vehicle Society because alternatives are so abysmal.
What a beauty! ❤
Giulia QV, 4C, 8C and now the Stradale 33 are true Alfa's :) all the rest are just made to make money in order to not die as a Brand :p great video (as always!!)
Favourite part of this video was the Greek intro music for an Italian car ;)
Ok but like. Could be Italian right lol
luuuuuv you 2! Bob and Doug mc kenzie of the car review world. Bless the interwebs for bringing you guys to the great unwashed masses. we are not worthy!
Thanks hoser
Hey, do they have, or will they have, a quadrifoglio version of the tonale? I saw one of these on the road yesterday. The red looks amazing as well… that yellow on the hornet looks good too. Nice colours.
The Quadrafoglio should never be applied to this platform IMHO. Leave it to the sublime, never to be repeated (actual Alfa, as opposed to Stelllantis) platform found in the Giulia or Stelvio. Grab one while you can!
It looks SO good. Not as good as a Stelvio, although nothings comes close to the Stelvio.
This is a brand new car in every way Normal to have hiccups at the beginning, the Stelvio and Guilia are solid
Can you guys test drive/review the Tonale with the 2.0 litre gasoline engine? Honestly the plug-in hybrid price, even after the $5,000 federal rebate in Ontario is just TOO expensive!
The ⛽️ only version is significantly less costly and competes with a lot of other premium brands. So please test the 2.0 ICE version. Thank you!
I guess they did not find the collision warning issue, because Italian do not go out so early in the morning lol
direct competitor? how about a Niro PHEV. or if ur already down with spending north of 70k CAD, go V60 polestar.
And in the US they want 4K down with only 7500 miles a year for a 2 year lease at 289 per month for it! Wild
The sun comment has also occurred on both my 22 Mazda3 and 19 CX9.
Man Im too ocd. Id be flipping out at those quirks. Especially that fan. 😂
Is lack-luster quality a cultural thing at Alfa Romeo? Is a shame because nobody does better car design than the Italians.
How does this paint color compare to Isle of Mann Green from BMW? Looks similar, and definitely pops on this car!
IMO this phev is very interesting
You guys did not give me the warm and fuzzy about buying this Alfa. Driving dynamics are important in any vehicle playing in the urban jungle or busy highways.
My 2018 Giulia did the same collision system unavailable when facing low sun. Alfa things 😁
😂🤣
I think it’s nice the car is trying to tell you not to stare at the sun
Yuri likes to spend time in the garage instead of driving 🤣
I'm hoping alpha will do away with glass cockpits and maintain their classy Italian interiors. Leaving the tactile knobs, and keep a very minimal console that's embedded into the dash not sticking out like an iPad, address the reliability issues and this car will dominate the market.
Just to think I bought a one owner fully serviced F150 4x4 Sport 2.7 ecoboost with a 100,000Km on the clock for $30K in Alberta. Why on earth would someone pay $73 for this.....
Because not everybody wants a barge that handles the road like a turd. Some people want something classy.
Is it worth to buy this over q3 or x1?
Is there a fully electric version? Please review that. Thank you guys.
Which is better to drive?
And which would actually you purchase long-term? No leases.
X1, GLB, Q3, Xc40, countryman, NX, or?
Tonale all day every day
A Honda pilot died and had to be towed during an @everydaydriver review. The sun blinds the collision avoidance camera in the dash. Would it feel different if it displayed a message in the cluster instead of illuminating the error light?
I’ve wanted an Alfa so badly for years and was initially excited when they came back to the USA years ago. I test drove the Giulia and the check engine light was on- ON the BRAND NEW car the dealership supplied for the test drive!!! Yikes- that ended my desire- despite the great looks (including amazing looking round wheels) and fun to drive experience. For those that have more than one car- maybe ok, but not for a sole car.
You should get one. You dodged a bullet on buying it new. Depreciation is horrible on them. However, buy a used depreciated one and they are pretty reliable. Don't compare it to a Lexus, but compared to a BMW, Volvo, or Audi they are comparable. Also the buy in price is much lower than the lexus if you get one 3 yrs old.
I am so tired of Italians making great cars that just fall apart in reliability. When will it change? Is a Lexus NX not a competitor?
2:53 … So what exactly is the specific name of this particular green color ?? 🤔
Alfa’s are beautiful. I’m not mad it’s a hybrid. If it was electric it would INSTANTLY get disowned.
Paint of the year!!!
Where did you get that front license plate holder? 🥃🎄☝️
I drive a tonale veloce 1.5. Its not plug in hybrid. I dont have the issues you had with the car. Maybe the european cars are better. For instance, I did 15k kms. And no leg in the infotainment.
The active lane assist is not available because the camera in front and the windscreen is too dirty and needs to be cleaned.
Government should create a currency that "sometimes works" for these "nice when works" expensive car companies.
Pretty weird how the Giulia/Stelvio doesn’t have these issues
It looks more Olive Garden ... only a mother could love that.
Yuri sounds like he has a gun to his head defending this car😂
I gotta admit, it sure does look great, but man it would be tough to buy one after watching the review
Jesus the first minutes of video...why am I not surprised.
At dealerships, you're paying the same or more for a Tonale Veloce than a Stelvio Veloce. They just don't get it. The Stelvio is much more desirable IMO.
I swear I just read an article talking about Alfa's improved reliability. Ya right... I'll believe it when I see it. Usually takes several years to really know, but Alfa is apparently only days or weeks at best.
Come on I'm sure it's improved!! Just you know. They have a lot more improvement to do.
My dad has a stelvio 2.2 diesel since 4 years and 110’000km and I have a giulia 2.0 petrol since one year and 60‘000 km so far we never had a single issue. Really. Not even the smallest one.
At the same time, a friend of mine has had a lot of problems with his bmw m440i…
The Giulia and Stelvio are rock solid. Just don’t get the QV. My 2020 Giulia hasn’t had an issue yet *knocks on wood*
My Stelvio is now at 270000kms no issues to report.
First Alfa definitely will not be my last
The music at the beginning is not Italian though. It's greek and the main instrument is bouzouki!
Great front looking without this front license plate ! Don't need them in the Province of Québec ! ;-)
Sounds like the radar failed, when that happens, the vehicle will use the camera as a backup for the forward collision alert.
