I just bought the wavestate and it’s going to be my first real dive into non-MIDI music production, and it’s my first ever true synth. Videos like this one show me just how much potential it has, and while it’s gonna take some getting used to for me, I’m so excited to dive in headfirst. @@e-conrecords4665 I think he means that he is not using MIDI programming i.e. editing / controlling via MIDI, linking MIDI kybds toagether and or composing within the DAW software. That he is playing and recording like the good ole days.

@@Grubenpony12 In the early days, 1980's, of computers I worked for Univac and Hewlett Packard doing application consulting on mainframes, minis then in the 90's Unix systems then PC's. I grew up with technology in Silicon Valley and was an evening professor of management but always had a little synth studio. Totally self trained and play by ear. Cannot read or write music but I love playing and making those sounds. You appear to be well trained and sophisticated in your playing. I always enjoy and learn from your demonstrations. Play on!

For me, there was also a certain pressure in childhood. Since I got to know the piano at the age of nine, there was always an escape, something that belonged only to me, a hiding place, music was a diary. In it, everything that burdened me took on a new form, and listening to it liberated me. An ideal path until today. I have no idea about music, I don't know what I will play when I sit down, I only know that something new will happen and I will hear myself again later. Nobody believes me because everything has to be learned, but that's the way it is. If you can make others happy with it or inspire them, like you, it's a double joy. Hold on! Play on!

Thank you so much! The last two ones based on Factory-Presets, mixing a Piano with Strings (Layer) and than Fith-Strings (two String Presets at the same Time, but with different Pitches).
I find the Wavestate controls a bit intimidating and quite different from "same old" oscillator waves. The inclusion of our trusted envelope filter (cutoff, resonance etc.) really helps. Your modifications here are encouraging a more creative approach to this special instrument. This is one of those instruments that comes along once in awhile that breaks the mold and requires a totally new approach to synthesis. These are great times for synth players!
@@Grubenpony12 Been doing synthesizers since the late 1970's but there is always a learning curve with the new stuff. Recently acquired a Hydrasynth and that is deep water indeed. I know the basics but I learn a lot about modern synths from RUclips and people like yourself who understand the programming and can really make them sing with real music.
@@Grubenpony12 There is some research that says playing musical instruments is really good for the brain as one ages. Being in my late 70's, music is important to me on many levels. And it is called "playing" for a reason, it is childlike to play and the creation of fantasy worlds, certainly good for aging children like myself. Always enjoy our correspondence. I guess my brain is a Sam Utah fan ({-;).... BTW with the new Dune movie coming out I am reminded that I took the name Sam Utah based of Frank Herbert's novel Dune where he describes an addicting kind of music called Semuta. I was going to use it for my album cover but change it to Sam Utah at the last minute figuring no one would get the in joke.
That's interesting and supports my thesis that the best way to conquer the world is to play like a child 😊. On the other hand, there are also serious studies that say that piano players protect themselves well against Alzheimer's disease, because playing connects both sides of the brain. Ingenious how you owe your RUclips name to a big book and change it at the last second! With me it was less prufund. I worked as a journalist in a big office for 30 years - you only survive that with a good sense of humour and a good keyboard (even when interviewing Phil Collins, Ronnie Wood & Mike Rutherford). Whining and complaining (a very German trait) was the order of the day. When a colleague called us poor "pit ponies" (in German Grubenpony), I laughed and knew: great name! The pit ponies really existed, they were young horses that worked in the mines and never saw the light.... I wish you a Merry Christmas and look forward to much correspondence next year!
Greetings from Germany! I have never done this before, because you can't rewrite the presets. But I could imagine that the sounds are available on the Korg site. If you then have the free Librarian editor on your PC, you can transfer all sounds to the Wavestate.
Thanks for the advice! I'm dying to try it out, but is sampling really that easy? I mean, just drag the file onto the keyboard and then the sound can be played over the whole keyboard? That would be great, because I hate 100 incomprehensible PC steps...🙄
@@Grubenpony12 YW. I started sampling back in the late 80's on the Ensoniq Mirage, so to me the Korg Sample builder is as easy as it's ever been ...Even easier then Kontakt. The whole sample builder interface is a 1 page minimal GUI, that uses minimal parameters to get the job done. You don't actually use the wavestate to sample with, instead, you can use either your own wav recordings, or pre-recorded wav recordings, and the sample builder allows you to map them across the keyboard, and import them into the wavestate. I think Plug-in Guru gives the Korg sample builder a great overview in this video. I hope YT lets me post this link here. Oh also. As not to confuse you ...The Wavestate editor and the Wavestate Sample Builder are 2 separate apps. The editor edits the sounds, and the sample builder creates the sample libraries. They can be used independently of each other.
Love my Wavestate. I just can’t get in to connect to the library in my pc so I can’t add any sound banks 😢 sounds amazing but I’m stuck with presets only
If you have the cash, team this with the Kronos full 88 key version, a computer with a good sequencing/ recording app, a fine old mini Mackie mixer, an excellent Crown Amp and monitors, and you're good to go!

I'm new to synth but these korgs are my price range but they all sound good. I don't know anything so I'm not sure what's best for me, this opsix or minilogue xd?
I'm sorry, I haven't played them yet, so I can't give you any advice. Only this: test them both extensively at your local music shop - that's how I did it 🙂
I just got my Wavestate, it is AMAZING! However, I’m diving in head first lol and I’m having trouble understanding lanes versus performances. I have lanes all programmed-but how do I combine them, and make every note flow? Should I be programming th Wavestate via “programs”, or via “wave”, or the other options that I can’t remember right now?
Each performance consists of four programs. You can select them from the menu, where they are grouped together, and choose each one individually. This way you get a new layer with four voices, which you can save if you like it. I have never done more than that.

Vielen Dank für das wunderbare Lob! Die Wavestate hat ein tolles Piano, genannt "Piano ff", das habe ich einmal zu den Vox und Violins hinzugefügt, beim anderen weiß ich es nicht mehr genau. Du kannst aber mit Leichtigkeit die gleichen Ergebnisse erzielen, wenn Du das "Piano Pad 1" nimmst und auf den anderen 3 Layers Dich aus den Strings bedienst, bis alles passt, oder zu Strings das Piano hinzufügst....😊

I own Wavestate. The synthesizer is somewhere on a shelf in the closet. With such bad screen and such poor shift control, the desire to turn it on disappears completely. Bought Prophet rev2-16 and Waldorf Iridium. I play every free minute. If Korg doesn't make a normal editor for Wavestate, i'll have to sell this toy

Fängt man einmal an, neu zu layern, an den Reglern zu "schrauben", kann man kaum aufhören. Blitzschnell sind überraschende Sounds gemacht, abspeichern und weiter. Wer jetzt verstaubt ist mein (fast dreimal so teurer) Roland JUPITER-Xm, dabei ähneln sie sich doch so. Aber der ist viel zu schwer, vielleicht genauso schwer wie Dein Polybrute, um mal eben locker auf der Bettkante zu spielen. Korg hat da wirklich ein irres Spielzeug geschaffen...
@@Grubenpony12 So, hab ihn jetzt. „Blitzschnell“ ist die Patch-Erstellung angesichts von drölfhundert Parametern aber m.E. nicht. Dafür gibt‘s sehr brauchbare Werks-Presets. Auf der Bettkante spiele ich auch (noch) nicht. Der WS steht neben einem 76-Tasten-Masterkeyboard, weil mir 3 Oktaven ohne AT eher nicht reichen.
Most of them are performances like "Air Dance Split", "Beauty Vox & Violins" "Bro Time Groov Split" "Contempory Composer" "Om-Manja Split" or "Rhythm Redux". To the others I added at most a piano or a shynth in the upper section. It is very easy to re-layer and create new ranges for the existing ones, i.e. to get split points. Have fun!
Thank you very much! To me, the pianos sound similar to the Korg Kronos, but of course they don't have the range and brilliance. Instead, they are equipped with a lot of effort with imagination, echoes (Island Piano) or guitars, which give them their own unmistakable character.

Are those preset sounds? Would be nice if you can name the ones you are demostrating. There are so many sounds in this little beast!
Most of them are performances like "Air Dance Split", "Beauty Vox & Violins" "Bro Time Groov Split" "Contempory Composer" "Om-Manja Split" or "Rhythm Redux". To the others I added at most a piano or a shynth in the upper section. It is very easy to re-layer and create new ranges for the existing ones, i.e. to get split points. Have fun!

Thank you very much! To me, the pianos sound similar to the Korg Kronos, but of course they don't have the range and brilliance. Instead, they are equipped with a lot of effort with imagination, echoes (Island Piano) or guitars, which give them their own unmistakable character.
