Yes I think this was the semifinals of some sort and the Summertime performance is her finals song. To be honest this is one of my most favorite performance of her. I know she did a lot of great performances, covers but this particular one I don't know it just gives me something that I always wanted. It's like an addicting drug to me that if I wanted to just escape from some harsh reality for a moment I will just listen to this song BangBang of Angelina and everything will be alright. Thanks sir for this Angelina series... This is huge for us fans.
1966. I was 17 years old. I remember this song, lost in the middle of my Jazz records. Could I have imagined, at the time, that a 8 years old little girl would sing it 50 years later ? We could be surprised to hear a sad song, so mature, perfectly sung by a child so young. But... But the first difference between a child prodigy and a "normal" child (and a "normal" is nothing but a murdered prodigy), is the psychological age of the prodigy is ahead of his physical age, whereas the psychological age of any "normal" (child or adult) is behind his physical age. A prodigy is always amazed but rarely surprised !
I love this version. But then again, I haven't found an Angelina performance yet that I haven't, so nothing new there. Thanks for posting all of these Angelina reactions. As I'm sure your numbers are telling you, there are a lot of us Angelina fans out there, and we all like nothing better than watching someone new fall down the Angelina spiral. As for you not knowing a lot about the relationship dynamics of Sonny and Cher - you should dig into it a bit. It's a truly fascinating rags to riches soap opera, especially how Sonny discovered Cher, then incorporated her into his act and groomed her to become a star - so well, in fact, that she ended up far surpassing him; she continued on into true super-stardom, while he gradually devolved into finally ending up as the mayor of a small town in central America. Also fascinating is how they retained a solid friendship throughout, even after the break-up, and were the best of friends up until Sonny's untimely death. It really is a touching and heart-warming tale.
True that the original was by Cher, but it was Nancy Sinatra's version with that new tremolo guitar arrangement that went completely over the top and was used by Quentin Tarantino for "Kill Bill".
thanks! you noticed that i was looking for the word :) it is frustrating.. i have the words in Russian and Hebrew on the age of my thong and can't speak it in English :)
@@douglashowser3429 Maybe he doesn't, but he seems like someone who likes to learn (you would have to be to be a multi-lingual person like him), so I'm sure he doesn't take offense to me pointing it out. BTW eddie if you are reading this, I think you were maybe trying to say "on the edge of my tongue"(?), but the actual english phrase is "on the tip of my tongue"
Yes, it's the right order, Gloomy Sunday, I'm a Fool To Love You, Bang Bang & Summertime are the songs she sang in NGT, this being in the semi final. I'll be back later with some further comments in a slight rush now
"I'm a Fool...." was sung acapella in the initial elimination round to determine who can participate. "Gloomy Sunday" was her first actual audition round.
In musical theory, cadence can have two meanings. A 'Harmonic Cadence' is a series of chords that creates a sense of resolution at the end of a phrase or piece of music. A 'Rhythmic Cadence' has a similar meaning, a rhythmic pattern that indicates the end of a phrase. I think for the thing you're talking about, the word 'Tempo' is appropriate, as indicating the number of beats per minute in a piece of music. All through this song you will hear 'tempo rubato', meaning the performer(s) don't stick to a fixed tempo, but allows themselves to adjust the tempo to create an artistic expression. Angelina's performance in this song is down right phenomenal. Her use of dynamics and inflections is something that usually takes tens of years to master at this level, not to mention how she sometimes totally disregards the tempo and syncopates freely and elasticated. Sometimes she just whispers the words and sometimes she sings with a stronger voice. This is not so much a question of confidence, but an artistic expression - a way to incorporate feelings in to the music. The sliding notes she's using in the phrase "Music played and people sa-a-ang, just for me the church bells ra-a-ang" always give me goosebumps. Also notice the small vibrato she puts on 'bells' in "church bells" (and other places)
Regarding using the same song in the finals as in the audition; I think you get it mixed up with a different TV show "The Voice". In that show, the participants get to have one of the judges as a coach through the competition and there I think in the semifinal or final show they repeat the audition piece to show off how they developed with the help of the this coach. and btw ... Angelina skipped at least two verses of Gloomy Sunday in the audition because the TV show has a time limit for each performer, also the lyrics are at the darkest in those verses.
@@josecamacho3393 never my intention to steal the thunder from the channel owner, just wanted to contribute to the discussion with my personal reflections ;)
@@YozhikvTumane Yes, but your reflections show an understanding of the nuances required to be able to perform this way! As the judges agreed this is something that is innate and cannot be taught!
Yozhik v Tumane... Thank you for your very clear explanation of cadence and tempo. You are a good teacher. I've seen some criticisms of Angelina's being "out of tempo," even by other singers. I like to refer them to jazz techniques, & particularly to Frank Sinatra, the master. No one criticized him for being out of tempo; they just praised him for his unique "phrasing." That's what I hear in Angelina's singing, her own unique phrasing, informed by her passion for jazz, & having listened to the very best artists since she was barely out of her cradle.
@@karolyn8644 To be honest, there are a few moments when she misses the intended beat. Maybe I've heard it 2 or 3 times among all the songs that's been shared on RUclips. But to criticize her 'one take' home recordings she does just for fun, and because she's kind enough to share her gift with us, as if they were 'official' published albums with horrible mistakes in them is unfair. Some people are just so used to hearing the mass produced dribble created with 100 re-takes, quantizers and auto tuning. I'd like to recommend this video for anyone who has opinions on the subject ruclips.net/video/AFaRIW-wZlw/видео.html
Eddie, you can also hear her confidence growing with this performance! She is projecting her voice with more power behind it and no hesitation at all! When you get to Summertime it is even more pronounced! Speaking of Cher, Sonny and Cher were icons in the late sixties, many great songs! Maybe you could do a segment of late sixties songs, The Four Seasons, The Lovin Spoonful, The Youngbloods, Mamas and Papas etc. I bet it would go over big and you have some very diverse and well read subscribers who could add to that list! Many of us are in our fifties, sixties and even seventies who grew up during that era! Another idea that I have had is doing segments on groups who brought their music to a level above, with their vocals! There are a few groups that brought orchestras to their music with their vocal harmonies! Examples are The Moody Blues, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, The Eagles and the Beach Boys! Once again there are people here that could easily add to that list! I know that you are inundated with requests but I doubt that you intend on doing this for only a few months,so for future consideration! The possibilities are endless! But don't quit on Angelina just yet because I believe the best is yet to come!
thanks, it is a good idea, i just wondering if original songs won't get copyrighted and blocked... if i understand you correctly, you mean the original songs, right ?
@@israeliguyreacts5808 Yes I am talking about the originals. I know very little of the copyright laws concerning You Tube but I do know of a reactor in Britain who reacts to much of the older stuff and seems to have few issues. I am sure that there are some that would be blocked and others that would be fine. I would also imagine that some copyrights have time limits and must be renewed. That all being said, I have nothing but time on my hands right now as I am retired and semi disabled (knees). I will do some research over the next month or so and if need be will target specific Bands and songs . Then you can decide if it is a worthwhile project! How does that sound to you?
Angelina has covered at least one of the Mamas and Papas hits, "California Dreaming." and Righteous Brothers, "Unchained Melody." These, and others have been on RUclips for a while. Yesterday I heard her cover "To Make You Feel my Love" surprised she was singing a Garth Brooks country song. It was written by Bob Dylan decades ago. She covered Patsy Cline and "Crazy." I'd like to hear her cover "Blue" recorded by LeAnn Rimes when she was 14.
I think the white dtess is deliberate, too. It was a brilliant idea. It can be altered, doeesn't require much searching shopping and thinking from show to show, really makes her stand out, and has the innocence for her age.
Great reaction, Angelina is such a special soul and great singer. Could you play “Can’t keep my eyes off of you “ a song by Frankie Valli Thank you. This is an Angelina cover. Thanks again
