I find you critique kelly waaaay more than anyone else..is there a reason for this? I heard you say you were there in lineup the same year was for idol...but decided to leave...is there a jealousy factor..or not jealousy..but your just putting your frustrations out on her???...I don't get it...Kelly is an amazing singer..yet you pause every 2 seconds to tell us what she's doing wrong....I beg to differ along with the rest of the world

I know Kelly’s voice extremely well, trust me. She knows how to belt. Her technique of belting in this song was appropriate given the mood of the song. Doing a full chest belt wouldn’t make any sense. Watch her performance of “I would have loved you” on the voice that she just did. She knows how to properly belt.
Totally agree. That’s the problem with vocal coach reacts is that they are by nature focusing on technique to the point of losing the subtext of the artistry, at times. Kelly is one of the best vocalists out there but one of my favorite performances by her is her live performance of Piece by Piece where she was completely overcome by the emotion but powered through it, but some vocal coaches critiqued it to no end.
Kelly grew up singing opera in several languages.

I wish you would watch the entire musical so you have better context for the vocal choices you are hearing. Her choices are spot on. Her lack of "full belt" is intentional for this song.

If you haven't seen all of Hamilton, you need to watch the full musical before you see this. It doesn't hit the same as it does when you've seen the scene leading up to it. Just my thought.

Just for context, this was for the Hamilton Mixtape, Lin Manuel Miranda's Pop/R&B release for Hamilton so it was not intended to sound like the Broadway version.

Hey there! Much respect goes out to you for being such a talented vocal professional/educator....I do however need to point out that this specific reaction of “it’s quiet uptown” was a pop take on the original tune (purposely intended to sound opposite) and it was during the time of either pregnancy or post pregnancy and as you are familiar being a vocal coach, it’s difficult to use your voice to the fullest due to limited breath/air capacity. You said you’re a Kelly Clarkson fan? You know Kelly can BELT full chest for days... this was a very odd choice to critique her solely on in terms of FULL vocal capability. She is the queen of full chest belts, head voice transitions, mix, falsetto and even her bass register has richly matured over the years. POST pregnancy, you can find tons of other NEW KC live performance videos out there in the RUclips universe like her cover of “Higher Love” from the billboard awards collaborating with pentatonix and Sheila E. OR many of her “Kellyoke” segments as part of her talk show that might allow you to give more of an accurate vocal critique/assessment, respectfully speaking.

Sorry - but I disagree with your critique. Kelly s voice is better today than it was the day she won American Idol. She's one of the best vocalists on earth. Lin Manuel Miranda chose Kelly to sing this song. You should explain why he did that before you begin to critique one of the best vocalists on the planet.

Just great vocals. Gives me chills every time. No genre she can't nail. She started sing musical theater in highschool. (Search for Kelly singing Brigadoon). She sang All I Ask of You (Phantom) with Josh Groban, and Never Enough (Greatest Showman) among others.

I kinda like her throaty belts but i could see why they would be bad. I could be wrong but i think she only mix belts like this half the time now, whereas from 2016-2019 all of her (mix) belts were throaty. I don't know about technique but i can tell that she's doing more variety of placements now at least. Idk if theyre any better though 🤷. However, i do think that she generally has more belting ease now and l know her schedule is more demanding yet she doesnt get hoarse anymore like she used to

I understand you're a vocal coach but you have absolutely ZERO right to critique this goddess's incomparable instrument. I had to laugh when you were trying to copy her sound. Her tone is deep, textured, rich and full. I am sorry to tell you this but yours is nasally, off key and thin when you try to go full. And you're critique of her damaging her vocal chords holds no weight. It is 2024 and she has had some of the best vocals on her show this year. Go critique someone more in your vocal league like Taylor Swift or Britney Spears. You could only hope to ever possess the power and God given gorgeous tone this woman has.

okay right off the bat I'm not a fan of taking the waterfall motif and making it bounce up and down like that. It doesn't pull us with it the way the original leitmotif does, we're not feeling the depression in the music

It's because this was for the Hamilton mixtape and the point of it was to make this covers pop singles. They take most of the context out. This is common in pop covers of musical songs. You can notice it a lot in the pop covers at the end of Disney movies.

Yeah, think I’m the only one that doesn’t like this version of the song. The original was so powerful, beautiful and heartbreaking. I just don’t feel that with her.
