    I have started to play the flute again after 15 years and I have just discovered this video. Thank you very much for uploading it!
    I am from Hungary which has had its own flute school since the second half of the 20th century, with an international outlook, of course, and many adaptations. We use the excercises of Köhler, Gariboldi and Andersen for instance.
    The Hungarian version of the Complète Méthode is called Flute School (Flötenschule) 1-2 from the legendary Professor Zoltán Jeney. Sadly, although the book is bilingual, it only has a German translation. It aimed for the development of a flute school based on Hungary’s own music traditions. We also have the scaling exercises and étude collections from the musician pair Bántai-Kovács which I have seen in a UK shop to my slight surprise.
    However, as I start the flute again, I have opted for the Complète Méthode from Taffanel and Gaubert for variety. I like it a lot so far, a highly, highly impressive book. We are all standing on the shoulders of giants and it is nice that they are still teaching us so many things.

    Rubank: Selected Studies for Flute by H. Voxman.
    Really good etudes in there usually for All-State, but still good etudes by a variety of composers

    Great review! Also worth mentioning, though, are Moyse '24 Little Melodies', Moyse 'Exercises Journaliers', and Moyse 'Tone Development Through Interpretation'.
    I'll look forward to your next videos.

    I studied Taffanel & Gaubert long ago, but I use Trevor Wyes books now. He covers most of the other books materials and more. I also start students on his beginner’s book. I like how he keeps exercises in the lower registers for new players.

    i personally prefer the marcel moyse's book "daily exercises for the flute". helps me a lot! and also the 6th book of trevor wye which contains more advanced exercises. but i have these three books that you recommended too :)

      +chribal1 oh yes the famous book 6! we love the book. I've secretly attached mine to the omnibus to make it the super book! Moyse's daily exercises are amazing! Any new pieces you working on?

      what a nice piece. Indeed some pieces drives us all a little crazy! But its fun nonetheless! DIY that the Borne Carmen Fantasy is one of the only complete scores of any work Francois Borne composed. Most of it was lost in a fire in the 1800s.

    Excited to get De La Senorite next week and then I will have all 3. I enjoy collecting dead tree books. Coming from an IT background where a lot of IT related books get deprecated or go out of style I'm glad that music books don't suffer from deprecation as far as I can tell.

      @@flutechannel One last thing though. I don't have T&G Complete Flute Method as its a very expensive book to buy and the free version online seems to only be in French and I only speak English. Is it okay to still learn from Trevor Wyes Part 1 and Part 2 beginner books while I use the 3 listed here in combination? I started off on his beginner books and found them helpful so far. I just started his Part 2 book months ago. I've been playing for almost 7 months without a teacher due to Covid. I'd be at a grade 2 level if I could reach the higher notes and be able to slur them with good tone.

      @@flutechannel Thanks I'm treating the whole process as a journey rather than the destination. I figure it can take years to learn the flute and I'm a slow learner so I just want to make sure I'm on the right path.

    Hi there... I used to play flute/piccolo throughout elementary/junior/high school and into college and in college, I was working on a BA Music Education...(a group of middle school girls cured me of that insanity...). I then joined the US Army and played in Army Bands for 12 years. Unfortunately, I sold my beautiful Mateki flute in 1994 and haven’t played since. What method books do you recommend for an adult returning to flute?
    Thank you...
    Kat

    • @flutechannel
      @flutechannel  4 года назад +1

      Hi Kat~ Let me think about that. We're working on a new book, but its for beginners. Although, an intermediate will come out in the fall. I would say like most of the time taking lessons will help immensely with pointing you in the right direction. You can try lessons every week or every month. Guidance can truly help. I offer online lessons if you need them. If your interested let me know.

    I'd be interested to have some recommendations for jazz/improvising players. The T & G and Moyse books undoubtedly are great for improving all aspects of one's playing, but... I just happen to get so bored I neglect practice. I'd like to learn some standards from the "great American songbook"and exercises which will help develop improvisation skill.

      Thats a great idea! Ill work on something. We might know about the Aebersold books they are great. But we might make a list of licks, jazz scales, etc for people wanting to learn that. stay tuned and thanks for watching!

    • @olive4naito

      I think I am in the same situation. I just watch the RUclips videos and follow their book recommendations and tips on technique. I ordered Trevor Wye book from Just Another Flutist's recommendation. Amazon is slow right now because of COVID-19 (they still haven't shipped it). I also have the Rubank Advanced Flute Method Vol 1 (by Hal Leonard) from a teacher's recommendation. I got a used Big Book of Disney Songs from Amazon (paid half price) and I am playing from the Phantom of the Opera book that we used in high school (had kept it for more than 20 years). You can also download sheet music from websites like Musescore.com or flutetunes.com.

    For the Trevor Wye Omnibus there’s 2 different books where I’m looking the White Cover and the Blue Cover. Are they both the same? I’m leaning more towards the White Cover if they are they same, especially the price difference!

    • @flutechannel
      @flutechannel  6 лет назад +1

      I think the white cover has one additional book, I believe. So a bit better of a deal, but they are near copies of the same book

    • @pauljohnson4948

      The white cover is an updated edition with larger print & the advanced practice book included.
      Unfortunately the Trevor Wye books do have print error's in them.
      So I would go for the white books

    Are the Altes Complete Flute Method Books (1 + 2) worth getting? I already have T&G Complete Flute Method but was wondering if the Altes books are worth a look. I'm primarily collecting a core library and I'm not at a level to competently play whats in a lot of these books but I will build up to it eventually. Time, Patience and Practice.

      You can find them for free on IMSLP.org and print them. Or find a nice big tablet and have the pdf. They are quite fun books. Its a core library literature for sure.

    I'm a self taught flute beginner. Played Sax with formal lessons, 30 years ago. Just purchase the Trevor Wye Practice Book. How would you suggest a practice\lesson plan for it. Should I start in at page one and work straight thru exercise by exercise to the end. Or should I work on each section simultaneously, say 15 minutes in each per practice section. I'm retired so I've got lots of time to devote. Thank you so much for creating this channel and sharing your knowledge.

    • @flutechannel
      @flutechannel  6 лет назад +3

      The Wye book has a lot of good things in it. But the structure of an actual practice plan, it lacks in that department. But a great question. I would find a good scale book like Taffanel and Gauberts Complete Method, you can find it for free on IMSLP.ORG but what you need to find there is the page titled T&G #4 . This and the rest of the book eventually will harbor a good technique. Work on a thing called long tones, which you can find in Moyse "De La Sonorite" page 4 I think. Work with a tuner sometimes and check in during your playing that everything is in tune ie big intervals and inbetween. Make goals that you think you can achieve quickly. A lot of people always want to play the big tough pieces. But look at the pops classical ( Faure, Satie, Bach ) and things you like as well. Sight read everyday, even if its just a single system of music. It gets your eyes and head moving and more proficient. This is a good start. I will also add that will be releasing a series of books soon ( Beginner and Intermediate ) for flutists of our own and some articles on our website. Will make announcement videos about that on this channel. Let me know if you need anything!
