When i was shopping for my first violin my teacher picked out 3. One from above my budget, one at it and one below it. Cheap one was immediately discounted (it smelled). The sound from the expensive one seemed just worse than the medium priced violin. I tested them for a week and kept asking my family each day which one sounded better. Initially we all agreed on the medium priced violin. It had a nicer/richer sound and played better in the hand (as long as i used the surprisingly beautiful more expensive violin's bow). But as the week progressed the blind tests started to shift from the medium priced violin to the more expensive one without me telling anyone. By the end of a second trial week the more expensive violin was just better in every way. Richer tone, it responded better/crisper. My parents started to like it so much they actually went above the "firm" budget they gave me. It turns out it even though it was about 6 years old it was brand new and never really played so as I played it the sound actually did change a ton! As a year passed the violin evolved alot and sounds way better than a 1000 pound violin. To think i almost missed it. Nice necklace btw!
When my parents wanted to buy me their own violin, the violin maker gave us 2 violins, which I was allowed to test for 2 weeks. It was a slightly older and a very new violin. My parents found the older ones much better and at the same time but after 2-3 days I realized that the newer violin sounded a lot nicer and that's why I said I wanted the newer one. Then we asked my teacher which of the two would be better and she also said that the newer of the two would be a lot better and now I have my violin called Belle (If the English is a bit wrong, I'm from Austria and write that to google translator) . And i Love my violin❤️
Yep. This is why, when you're shopping for a violin, you should never spend your entire budget on the violin itself. Save at least 20% of your budget, if not 25%, for the bow.
I would say she’s probably intermediate or around, definitely not at a point where she can play things like Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, Saint Sean’s Introduccto Capriccioso, or any of Paganini’s Caprice
If you really want to learn how to play the violin, first start by going to a reputable music shop and buy a decent one. Do not go with a cheap one, I learned that lesson myself. There is a big difference in sound quality between a $100.00 violin and a $500.00 violin.
Expect to spend at least $300 on a beginner violin. Below that, you get instruments that are so poorly made that they'll hold a beginner back, or come with defects that may make them unplayable after a short time. They may even cost more to maintain for the first year than they cost to buy in the first place. Once you get above $300, they're at least consistently playable.
You have to get first the instrument. Have someone who knows well about violins to guide you in buying. I guess for starters and beginners you don't actually need to buy high-end violins but instead have a decent, student grade one. Not too cheap, not too expensive. It's the sound that counts. Once you got one you can try invest for lessons. I'm not encouraging, but learning from professionals themselves helps much than learning on your own. Cons of learning on your own is that you might develop some "bad habits" or improper techniques along the way. I am almost ten months with my violin and self-studying since I cannot afford to get a teacher. And I admit I had developed and still doing improper things in playing the violin. Above anything else, the most important thing is have fun!
I love how far you've come with the violin in such a short amount of time!! I'm 14 and have played for nearly 6 years now, so DAMN you are impressive haha. Also that Violin is goals
Hi Noobie! I wanted to say thank you for being such a big inspiration for me, I have always loved the violin and never played a instrument before, and being scared because if the scar tissue in my hands stopping me from playing but after watching your videos helped build me up to buying one and currently teaching myself to play, thank you!!
After I get a new cello I want to do this with my old cello (I have 3/4 size now but when I get to a full size then ima paint my 3/4 size one) and paint it a deep ocean blue
It was to be expected, but the difference is huge! By the way, have you considered carbon fiber bows? For example, mine was €250 and is comparable to a wooden bow of three times that price. There are differences in sound, some people still prefer wooden bows, but if you want a good quality for a decent price, it could be a good idea. 🙂
I agree with this. There's also a third option that I think is worth looking into: hybrid bows, which have a carbon fiber core surrounded by a wood sheath. That gives it both the springiness of carbon fiber and most of the warmth and resonance of a wood bow. (Yes, bows resonate too!) They're also available at much lower price points than all-wood bows; I've seen some available for under US$200. I use a C.F. Iesta hybrid bow that cost me US$550. When I shopped for it, I was budgeting up to $2000 for a bow, and tried bows listed at up to $2500... and ended up buying the hybrid for not much more than a quarter of what I expected to spend. It's good enough to use with a professional-quality viola, and even experienced string players have a hard time telling the sound apart from a wood bow.
Bow does not affect sound. The expensive bow will have a better balance so you can adjust the pressure esier to achieve good sound with minimal effort. I also did not notice that big of a difference in sound with the two violins. Both are pleasing to listen to.
That violin sounds nice with that bow. I'm just 3 weeks into learning violin. I have a Yamaha av7 and Hermann Luger pernambuco bow. Too bad I suck or I can make awesome music.
Having all fine tuners on the violin prevents the vibration and sound from releasing as well as a violin without fine tuners. Removing fine tuners is the best choice. If pedals are stuck, use lubricant to make the pedals move smoother.
Theres a way you can tune the painted violin to make it sound like your other violin. I painted mine and tuned it a little differntly but it still sounds amazing :)
Before 1:14 I am listening but soon after 1:14 I begine to feel the tears fill my eyes and I can't even control it. I think you should go out into public everyday and express that power and let people experience it.
I wasn't sure I'd be able to hear a difference but *good equipment is clearly better.* The better violin has a warmer, more resonant sound. The cheap bow is pretty but it sounds scratchier on either violin.
You’re an inspiration, I’m teaching myself the violin as well. May I ask, where did you get the sheet music for the song you played? It’s from “Last of the Mohicans” and is my absolute favorite, I want to learn.
When I bought my violin, I tried 3. The first one (£200) sounded really orange-y. The second one, (£400) sounded great but really sharp and bold. The third (£600) was over 100 yrs old but sounded amazing. Rich and neat. I got the third btw and my family agreed
The sound sounds a lot cleaner in the new one. (I dont know music terms) PS: Hei Noobie, hvis jeg har lyst til å skaffe meg en fiolin og bor i studentkollektiv. Vil elektrisk eller klassisk med lyddemper være best for resten av beboerne?
Takker for svar.
It's really hard to hear a difference in a RUclips video, but I'm sure your expensive violin is much better. I can hear a clear difference between my violin made in a fabric and my teacher's violin made by a luthier
Meh? I would say she's like a level 3-4ish. Definitely not a pro, I would say she's an intermediate to slightly advanced, but I have friends who are way higher levels. She also has this habbit of accidentally playing a string while crossing her bow from one string to the next. She could improve on her shifting and bow posture.
she plays like me after 5 years of violin practice and i didnt play so great after 5 years. Currently i am in my 9th year, and i can say she is definetly better than others, who just play the violin - because their parents forced them ,when they were kids, and they play it without practice. But i think if she learned the violin earlier she would have improved faster than in adult age. Many kids who practice around an hour per day could make it good as her after 6 years. She play's normal + .

Yeah, violins that haven’t been played before need time to “warm up”.
@@Sorestlor Seems like a LOT for a first violin. I see all these professionals recommending violins around $200 or less for beginners.
WOW!!! It blew my mind how much of a difference changing the bow made!!! I had no idea!!
And you've gotten SO MUCH BETTER!!! :-O
Yep. This is why, when you're shopping for a violin, you should never spend your entire budget on the violin itself. Save at least 20% of your budget, if not 25%, for the bow.
I think you could do anything to that violin or any violin and still make it sound great with your magic touch!
Tom De Fazio she’s not good
@@sohcratic are you better ?
Not plastic violins, nobody no matter how much skill they have, can never make a plastic violin sound good.
I would say she’s probably intermediate or around, definitely not at a point where she can play things like Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, Saint Sean’s Introduccto Capriccioso, or any of Paganini’s Caprice
オタク I din‘t think it‘s her goal to be able to play anything by Paganini at all.
I play violin now cause youuu!!❤️🔥😘
Oh wow! I can see the difference !
I can *F E E L* the difference
*I can TASTE the difference*
I can sense the difference
*The new one have a better acoustic, and the painted have more metallic. Both great in right hands 😊*
Ugghh I want to learn violin so badly, I'm definetely going to do something about that this summer.
Zet Walter been playing for 4 years. So much fun you'll suck at first but you'll get better😂😂😂

I was waiting for this video!! :'D Love your videos so much, they really motivates me to keep studying violin
Cool video and you can totally notice the difference. Nice ocarina necklace btw.
Jake Miranda she got it recently in her ocarina unboxing a couple days ago.

I think the decorated violin has a great, great sound :D

I love the violin sound. ¡congratulations for your progress! ✨
SHE IS JUST SO ADORABLE!!!
I agree, the pimped up violin does sound, at the least, slightly muffled. By the way thank you for the inspiration.
I really love these videos
You are so great!!! I love your videos!!
Saying hi from México!!!
Your violin sounds very good i really like it
The both violin are beautiful, like you ❤
Great comparison video!
New one is very good. Good choise!
It has a much shallower sound.. didn't expect it to make THAT much difference!
Lovely
Oh I love “The last of the Mohicans” theme ❤️
After I get a new cello I want to do this with my old cello

Funny, I'm 6 weeks into learning. A lot of fun with alot of screeches!
Yayyyy!!!!
Having all fine tuners on the violin prevents the vibration and sound from releasing as well as a violin without fine tuners. Removing fine tuners is the best choice. If pedals are stuck, use lubricant to make the pedals move smoother.
The sound is maybe more consistant on your more expencive violin but I actually like the sound better on your first one.
Now i remember... i still got to practice today😂
OMG it's like night and day
Bello I LOVE
Well, you’re definitely not a noobie anymore.
Nooooo, missed the notification 😭😭
What is the name of the music you played the first one? Was it from a movie? It sounds familiar but I can remember🤔
Such a big difference
Theres a way you can tune the painted violin to make it sound like your other violin. I painted mine and tuned it a little differntly but it still sounds amazing :)
Eyy, Norge c: Har akkuratt begynt å lære meg fiolin også ^^
Wow i can hear the difference
Wow you pimped up this violin very good and It looks sooooo great🌸
I think I'll buy a cheaper violin so I can beautify it👌🏻😂

How long have you played violin for
The Current violin you have is a lot louder and has deeper sound compare to your first violin.
I was normally watching this video and I just realized wtf dude she is so cute wtf
Can you play Schindler's List? I'd love to see you post that.
Where did you get the good one?! And how much
What kind of bow is the better bow, I liked the newer violin
What are the brands of the violins?
My violin is blue and sparkly
To be honest, with it spray painted, the wood doesn't vibrate the normal way it should making the sound lower than what it should be
I want one
You made an electric violin or close to it. Still sounds wonderful - - - its a violin
Volume lower cuz the paint absorbs sound
Hi Theresa nice ocarina necklace and nice video too what work do you do other then making RUclips videos? Love love.
Can you play "comptine d'un autre été"?
I love your accent! Where are you from?
The sound sounds a lot cleaner in the new one. (I dont know music terms)

Violin Noobie same here 🤗. Weird question but when you play do you ever get pain around the thumb . I do and I’m not sure why.
I did before, because I used to be really tense in the muscles. But I tried to relax and adjust my tequniqe every time it hurt. Now it's alot better 😁
