Baphoun temple and its history

Baphuon is the name of an ancient temple in the 11th century that was built to dedicate to Lord Shiva. The present name Bapoun or Baphuon can be derived from the sound of the Sanskrit word Bhuvana or BhuvanaTilak, which means the world. That is the place where the golden linga was placed more than 1,000 years ago.
According to a 2015 study, analyzing the concentration of coal on the rocks of the temple, we can know that Baphuon temple was built from the end of the reign of King Suryavarman I between 1010 and 1050. After not having achieved Takeo building, Hema giri in 1007, a group of craftsmen in the reign of King Suryavarman I began to build a heavenly symbol named HemaSringagiri that means the golden mountain of happiness.
