    I think a max of 2-3 weeks for a protective style is optimal for me. Any longer than that is detrimental to my scalp.

    Wow this was very helpful.
    Protective styles are no longer protective once they are neglected and not redone after a certsin short period of time. Thank you for the 100% reality check on protective hairstyles.

    Another factor in determining how long you’re tempted to leave a braided style or a weave in your hair is the cost. If you spent what you consider to be a lot of money on a style, you’re less likely to take down the style because it cost you your hard earned money. I learned that 4 weeks is my limit. I get anxious to thoroughly cleanse my hair and scalp.

      The more expensive the style, the Longer you sit in that chair so he's absolutely correct. Example: Microbraids are expensive and take a while to finish. Six large cornrow braids don't take much time at all and cost way less (unless the stylist over charge).

    OMG! I never thought of a blow out as a protective style until he said it but it is! About hmmm 2 years ago I fell out love of dealing with my own hair so I started going to the salon again I get a blowout and then a two strand twist style or a blowout and simple cornrow. I figured this would be somewhat damaging to my hair (heat every two weeks on 4C) but I just didn't care anymore (i'm almost 9 years natural and this was around the 7-year mark). I get a flat iron for trimming purposes about every 4 - 6 months. Well, my stylist was the one that pointed it out to me how long my hair was even when it was just blown out. Sure enough, I looked at a photo of when we first started (it was bra strap length) and a photo of now (its mid-back length) and my growth is crazy. Who knew blow drying is a protective style (when done correctly) well I guess Dickey knew! LOL And yes my curl pattern is looser but in a healthy way, like it is when you maximum hydration wash and go. On the rare occasion (its just too jumbo big for it now) that I do want to wear an afro, I just spray it with water the brush out the curl/wave pattern. But that is really, really rare because its just huge and people can't see around it LOL.

    So if takes 2 hrs to put in my coils then they should last two weeks, and I feel they could. But my scalp only lasts for 1 week, so maybe I just need to move faster 😂

    Great video per usual but protective styles promote length retention as hair is always growing. I find protective styles are the only way I can keep any significant length because I have hand in hair syndrome really bad. It’s so bad, I annoy myself.

    Great video..I do my own box braids and I moisturize them every other day and I refresh each braid as it needs to be rebraided to remove shedded hair.

    I'm late for my Truth Teacher lesson but I'm present!!!! Such a great question and answer. I've found that the least amount of time that I'm manipulating my hair between cowashing or cleansing the better my hair seems to perform and grow. But I never wear braids, twists, Bantu Knots or any protective style longer than a month. My hair is super coilly and will mat up on your tail if you leave it too long. Those braids or twists will be dreads wanted or not!!! LOL 😂😂😂😂😜

    So micros are out of the question from now on because I had to sit for a disrespectful amount of time for 2 people to finish my hair.

      They're dangerous anyway because it's just too small an amount of hair per braid to protect.

    How long should you wait in between protective styles? Can you go from one protective style to another? Or should you let your hair breath for a period of time?

    I've seen a positive change in my hair over the summer, due to wash n go styling.
    Is there a drawback to continuing with wnw into the cooler months ?

  • @MrAnitaw14

    Really need to know is deep conditioning necessary for health hair and length retention or is it more of a placebo (power of suggestion) ?4b/4c

    • @Quiestagirl
      @Quiestagirl 5 лет назад +1

      In another video, he said that with very regular wash n gos, deep conditioners would become obsolete.

  • @dieulenep3220

    Good morning Mr Dickey I do not like protective styles I only do wash and gos .for example I would do my wash and go on Sunday and then the next day my hair is so dry and I have to wet it again . I have use a lot of products and now I’m using kinky curly custard and same results what should I do.

    • @Quiestagirl
      @Quiestagirl 5 лет назад +1

      Do them as much as possible. In other videos, he says that they're really only working if you do them very often. Every day even for at least 3 days in a row.
