I respect a conductor who isn't afraid of letting their emotions shine through. This looks pretty much like what I'm feeling when listening to most genious pieces like this. Chills running down my spine, goosebumps all over and perhaps even a few tears blurring my vision a bit.
I don't know... his violent thrashing about seems completely disconnected with the affect of the music. Also, a piece like this an orchestra can be executed without a conductor for musicians the are trained in historically informed performance practice.
@@barnabyandanthonysofficial1497 First off, I'm not a professional musician (even though I know someone who is, and has played in many world famous orchestras) so I can't speak from personal experience. However, they are indeed professional musicians and they have the notes right in front of them. Of course they could play any piece passably if someone just gave them a tempo and a cue to hit the first note. This is not what being a conductor is about, though (in my opinion). The real work is done behind the scenes through hundreds of practices where the conductor gradually molds the piece to be played the way he/she views it at its best. The whole orchestra is the conductor's instrument if you will. The actual show is more about sticking to what has been practiced. You can even see how some of the musicians occasionally glance at their conductor for cues, other just stick to their notes. It seems the conductor likes what they have achieved together, and isn't hiding his emotions.

I sent the link to a friend of mine who is a dancer/choreographer. She was impressed by Colombini's passion. The interpretation is superb; it results from the conductor's fortitude.
Sarabande is supposed to be dance music. But Maestro’s heavy-handed rendering is expressing our pains and sorrow in this dreadful time. Also I love this orchestra’s expressive but thick sonic color. Bravo!
