- This is an update to my previous video with more in-depth, slowed down instructions.
Recreate this boho craze! Hat storage is always tough and this not only provides an organizational solution it is also a beautiful wall accent. My hanger holds two hats but you could end the hanger early and have it hold a single hat or just keep going and make it hold as many hats as you want. Supplies
Macrame (I used 4mm)
Scissors
2.75 inch Wood Ring
Measuring Tape
Step 1:
Cut 8 pieces of 17 foot macrame and 1 piece that is 3 foot.
Step 2:
Take your 8 long strands and attach using a Lark's Head knot to the wood ring. You are going to stagger the lengths of your strands at 11 feet and 6 feet because we mainly use the outer strands for braiding so you need more length for those. This just saves us from wasting macrame.
Step 3:
Take two adjoining pairs of strands and grab the two outermost strands. Cross the left over the two middles and under the right. Now take the right and loop it behind the two middles and through the opening. Pull tight.
Step 4:
Now repeat on the OPPOSITE side. You must alternate sides on square knots.
Step 5:
Square knot the outer pairs to 3” inches long. Take the two most inner strands of the outer pairs and cross them. Then perform square knots with the switched strands.
Step 6:
Continue this method of crossing over the strands until you have done your third cross. From there braid that set another 3 inches and match the other pairs to that length.
Step 7:
Place your hat between the braids. Grab the two inner pairs and loop them around the hat grasping where it holds the hat snugly.
Step 8:
From the point you are holding, measure 3” back up the strands and start square knotting.
Step 9:
Square knot down 3 inches on all 4 braids and do the crossover method on the two inner braids.
Step 10:
Now we will create a diamond shape using 2 Square knots at a time. Alternate your pairs on every row.
Here is my final diamond by row:
2 knots, 3 knots, 4 knots, 3 knots, 2 knots, and 1 knot
-----
If you want to have this hold a single hat, stop here and skip ahead to Step 13.
------
Step 11:
Re-separate your strands back out and square knot down another 3 inches.
Step 12:
Repeat Steps 7-10 to create a second hat loop with a diamond bottom.
------
Keep repeating the above steps until you have as many hat holders as you want then continue past here.
-------
Step 13:
Pinch the bottom of your strands. Take the 3 foot piece and create a 5 inch loop.
Step 14:
Wrap your macrame till you get to the end of the strand. Stick the end through the loop we made at the beginning.
Step 15:
Pull the end of the strand that you left sticking out at the beginning. This will scoop your other end and the loop under your wrapped yarn. Leaving nice, clean lines and no visible knots.
Step 16:
Trim any pieces sticking out of your loop and the tails to your desired length.
Let me know if you have any questions!

I have watched 2 or 3 lifetimes of macrame videos and I’ve read countless tutorials. I just want you to know that yours was probably the most straightforward, easy to follow, well thought-out that I’ve ever had the pleasure of viewing (and reading, because your written tutorial was outstanding). Truly fantastic. I just subscribed to your channel and I am looking forward to more!! Thank you!
I read your blog post with this pattern, but I appreciate having a video to make sure I don't get turned around. I'm going to be making one for myself to hold three hats!
How’d it go? Three hat holder is also my aim…
@@adventuresblissconnection4198 We reorganized our entry area, so I end d up having a horizontal area for my hats instead of a vertical one. I never ended up making it!
Thank you so much for the update Gentry. Much appreciated. 💐
Thank you, this is brilliant and easy to follow
Hermoso tejido felicitaciones.
This is such a fantastic tutorial, thank you for this!! Is there any way you'd be willing to share the length you leave unbraided for the hat to sit in?
Only complaint is the staggering measurements. Needs more clarification. I made two of these and thought the second time i staggered correctly and still had to add cord. Otherwise very straightforward and easy to follow.
I made one, and just did it for one hat so I was ok. I am getting ready to do one for 2 hats and I have the same dilemma. Are all cords supposed to be folded to 11 ft and 6 feet or just the sets on the outside left and outside right. Would really like clarification on that
also, I would guess that if it is all cords, of the 4 cords to make the square knot you would have the center cords be the short one and the outer cords used for knotting as the long side.
Thank you
I want to make a three hat hanger. Would you help me with length of cord and stagger lengths I should use? Thank you!!
Thanks work well
Oiii amei o seu trabalho parabéns
Gostaria muito que vc traduzisse
Obrigada
In the description I have my blog post linked which is written and has photos. Then you can use google translate or any other service on it :) Hope that helps!
I'm really confused where you have said stagger the cords at 11 and 6 foot? What exactly are you meaning by this?
did you figure this out
@@nickaddamo6749can you explain what the staggering means?
Do you have rough estimate on length of cords for a single? Hate to waste cord..
hmmm always better to over estimate when in doubt but I would try 13 feet. The staggering of the cords helps save alot of length.
@@thegreenmadhouse4585 thank you.
