Taylor Guitars K24CE Builder's Edition Review | I really, really want to own this guitar!

- "I've got another confession to make". This guitar took me a bit by surprise. I knew it was coming and I knew it would be a beautiful work of art. I did not anticipate that I would be so smitten with it. The new Taylor K24CE Builder's Edition is simply stunning. The figured Hawaiian Koa top, back and sides is highlighted with a subtle kona burst and finished in Taylor's new silent satin finish. Like other Grand Auditorium Builder's Editions is features the beveled armrest and beveled cutaway with a compound radius to follow the neck heel. Shimmering abalone borders the top and rosette and graces the fretboard in a Spring Vine inlay. Based upon that simple description a blind man would tell you it is a beautiful guitar. But, playing the first note will convince you that it is truly something special. When koa is used as a top wood is increased the midrange warmth of the guitar while compressing dynamics. This means the guitar will not be as loud or dynamic as its spruce counter part but the compression rounds the notes for a truly sweet tone. The compressed dynamics also manifest in increased note sustain from the guitar. With the combination of V-class bracing and this koa top compression, the guitar can simply ring. The ergonomic improvements make it a joy to hold and the aesthetics are just stunning. It is an heirloom quality guitar that I seriously want to own!

Bought one of these 2 weeks ago, the BEST acoustic i've every played, absolutely fell in love with it! Great video, as usual!
Is it still as good a few months on? I’m deciding between this or the 912ce
@@peakdistrictguitarplayer it’s only going to get better with time. As it opens up.
@@Thorkell64 I ended up going with a 5 year old k424ce special edition which has opened up a little bit already. Full Koa, sounds lovely. Half the price but more than half the punch. It’s on my channel if you want to take a look. 👍
@@peakdistrictguitarplayer me too. :)
im getting this soon, i played it earlier at guitar center. SUCH A GORGEOUS GUITAR PLUS IT SOUNDS AMAZING
After months of saving, I've finally pulled the plug on this guitar. It's arriving tomorrow morning and I can't wait!
Update: holy shit, its amazing
i would like one but although i can play guitar ..im just very average ,,just able to fingerpick and strum chords on the acoustic i have right now ..which is not the easyist to play !!
Don't misinterpret this but I want to be inside you :P hahah I want to be in your shoes! I am so jealous!!!!!!!
@@BLUESKY-zt1nv Buy one,
and grow into it!
Hey stop teasing I got 2 more years to go of saving for this baby lol 😂 maybe 3
@@lapriestrobinson6574 The price of koa keeps going up. I just said screw it and got it
I’ve had my K24 CE standard bracing for a little more than a year. It is the best guitar I’ve owned in my 45 years of playing.
The playability factor alone makes it worth the investment, but to have a solid koa instrument fulfilled a dream, and it did not disappoint.
I used a Tone-Rite on it for a couple of weeks and it completely opened up the instrument. It rings forever!!! There is a sparkle to it that knocks me out. I love it when someone plays it for me so that I can hear it better.
In other words, I highly recommend this guitar.
what’s Tone Rite?
@@AnCapDog144 a tone-rite is a device that’s placed on the bridge of the instrument that simulates it being played. It vibrates the guitar.
When I got my Koa ukulele in 2006, I was told it would take about 5 years of playing to open up. I put a tone-rite on it for a week, and the ukulele came alive...no exaggeration. Google it to see reviews.
@@raysilva8988 koool
@@raysilva8988 lol!! I bought a tone right from the US, after reading and watching reviews on RUclips..
( I live in the English part of the UK! 👍)
I happily (😩😩) paid the extra money for Overseas tax and import. It really opened up my BSG long scale , spruce, acoustic bass guitar as well as my
Taylor Koa + GS Mini..
We only live once!! 😘👍 and we can’t take our money with us when we go,
so spend it on joy, love, music, and a great life. With the best instruments that we can afford, then leave em to our children when we go..
( We only get one chance to live, so make the most of it! You might as well… )
BUY!!!
I could get lost and lose track of time with this awesome guitar!
Stunning & Beautiful tones!
That guitar certainly has the "WOW" factor. Beautiful and sounds amazing.
Thanks for the review Chris. I always enjoy your guitar reviews. New info each time I view your videos of the products. Keep up your good work.
I appreciate that!
These Taylor koas are simply awesome both in sound and look!
After buying the 324ce it was now time to buy the K24ce a decision I will always love! People who play understand that it's more than just a box with strings it is a way of life. Don't regret not spending on this investment for your life. I promise it will be a decision you will long remember as one the best you had ever done. You have done well my brother by showing the joy Taylor brings to the table of life....Well done.
I'm pretty much a little past the beginner stage of guitar playing and even I want this. Amazing.
Bought one with a AA flame top a couple weeks ago after playing every Taylor I could and watching every K24be video on RUclips. Alamo music reviews are the best! She is so beautiful I cant keep my hands off of her and she sings when I do. Whatever style you play she can take it and give it back. Compression, resonance, mids and chime are her sweet spots but she can handle some aggressive power chords and that ebony neck can play fast..but she likes it slow too so tickle her strings any way you like she is responsive
I almost forgot this was a review. Just listening to you play. Nice job and beautiful guitar too.
Chris I hope you get this guitar !! I think it would be a great guitar to add to the collection and maybe take to your worship band at church
You're lucky to be able to play all these guitars. I have to order and buy before I can play them, I'm left handed. But Taylor will make you any of their models left handed at no extra charge. Thanks for the great review.
That's neat! Thank you for watching!
Watch your reviews because I like your playing style. Very chill and sounds awesome. My sense is you can make a hundred dollar rig sound like this!
That tone, That sustain. One Word, Koa!
do you anq qaunnntachhh qalay qalay
?
A work of visual & auditory art!
Agreed!
@@AlamoMusic hey Chris, which would you rather have (if money were not an issue)
K14ce builder's, K24ce builder's, or the sinker redwood/ebony custom?
OMG Andy! That is such a gorgeous guitar! Love the tone! It’s so pretty! I really hope you can get one for yourself! You deserve it!
Wow. Awesome guitar! Super content and insight as always.
What an amazing looking and sounding instrument.
I own the k22ce its little brother (I own a Martin d35 for all the louder stuff), and this is the best guitar I've ever played and that strumming sound is so beautiful.
It’s time to sell a kidney
Man I love your videos. So inspiring!
Nice guitar, however, you could make a plywood box from China sound wonderful; very nice playing Chris.
I’ve had the chance of playing it at a guitar store and I felt in love with it, I’m here watching the video so I can remember, I hope I can buy it in the next few weeks, I’m gonna sell a kidney
i’m getting this for christmas and i’m so f*cking excited
We're excited for you!
Update? ;). How are you enjoying it?
Bought myself a 724 because it's what I could afford (after years of saving 😂) and I love it, but my god this is a masterpiece of an instrument. Taylor really did it with this guitar. Aesthetically and tonally a work of art.
My, my - what a beauty ❤️
So many guitars, not enough money. Best sales pitch ever. I love everything about that guitar, However at the price of a car, I can't!
So beautiful wow , I want one
I’m in love! 😍
Imo about the nicest tone I've heard- very emotive.
Awesome sound from that guitar 🙏👍😊
That is one beautiful guitar. I have the 224ce-K DLX. A fabulous more affordable Taylor Koa. Along with my GS Mini I'm a happy guy!
David Joy I have the same guitar (224ce-k) and I love it! So much so that when my first one was stolen, I bought another one within a week. They are so beautiful and sound amazing.
I own a K22ce and it’s the best guitar I’ve ever owned. One comment I must make: I get it that builders edition guitars now come in satin finish. It is very comfortable for the player. But a Koa guitar this beautiful demands a gloss finish to show off the beauty of the wood. I think they made a mistake by giving this particular builders edition a flat finish.
So beautiful guitar ❣❣
Koa is my favorite tone wood and Taylor does amazing things 4sure !! 😊
'silent satin'/? that's just a pleasant excuse of a name for not doing the more expensive and difficult gloss finish which really brings out the Koa's inert flamed beauty 😎
Gloss finish dulls the tone - might look great of course!
Start playing min 5:00
I want this one....or the 814ce DLX (sunburst) in the future 😂😅
Those are the exact 2 I want as well, good taste! ;)
What’s the name of the song you play 7:00 minutes in ? Sounds beautiful
Amazing. I can sure see why you want it, and I can sure see why you wouldn't get it. I'd love to hear it in a few years after it has mellowed. So, did you get it? I'm guessing you didn't. And yeah, I want it too, who wouldn't?
When I win the lotto I will buy this guitar!😅✌🏼🎶🎵
Hey Chris, if you had to pick between this one or the new 912ce builders edition ( which one?
same question! Would like to know which one is better!
Same here!
That is a beautiful instrument played the way it should be… beautiful… just beautiful!
Wow, it's really something extraordinary! The one think I was curious about was how this was different from the non builders edition or from the k14
I think the thinner finish will allow it a bit more resonance. - Chris
That does sound nice but $6000 cad? My Taylor 314ce sounds just as sweet! Plus I bought it used. (One of my tastes for considering buying an acoustic is the ease of playing that F type chord in The Beatles song “Julia”. Lol) Mind you, the look of that guitar you have there is stunning!
I think it’s for the same reason people buy an Audi, when a VW, SEAT or Skoda is exactly the same internal parts/platform.
Sometimes people just want the best, even if in reality the difference is minimal.
I bought the standard K24 recently even though the builders edition was around the same price. I just cant get my head around the beveled arm rest. It just makes the guitar look wonky & not right. I love the look of the abalone inlays. I'd buy another one if they made standard K24 with the real nice sparkly inlays. :)
When your playing live 4 hrs. The beveled edge goes a long way, if your gonna hang it on the wall and look at it just go buy some art.
@@joker57 There aint a guitar player alive that doesn't buy the guitar for looks as well as sound. The difference between the sound of a 2K & a 7K guitar is minimal. Comfort is important - I recently got rid of my D28 in favor or a 00-15M. I have around 9 Taylors from the 114 to the K24. My fave is probably the sinker redwood 714. Mine are all on display - I don't put them back in the shell case unless it's travelling.
I've been playing guitar for over 45 years and the bevel feels like heaven on a 324ce I tried recently.
I think I'm in love
wow beautiful
Around 1:45 you mentioned a K14. I thought the middle number was for number of strings and type of wood, with 1 being a 6-string soft wood and 2 being 6-string hard wood. How can Koa be both a hard and soft wood?
It is for the top wood. K14ce = K (series), 1 (top wood, 1 for spruce or cedar on a 6 string. 2 for hard wood on a 6 string. 5 or 6 for for the twelve string versions) 4 (body shape) 2 is Grand Concert, 4 is Grand Auditorium, 6 is Grand Symphony, 7 is Grand Pacific, 8 is Grand Orechestra, 0 is Dreadnought. So the K24ce is the KOA top, k14ce is spruce. If there was a 12 string KOA top it would be k62ce and so on. Hope that helps. -Chris
This is my dream guitar, really wish I could afford it as its the price of a car after currency conversion. Maybe some day
Would it be a good guitar for percussive fingerstyle way of playing?
Curious, for those of you who have owned the K24CE V-class for a while. is it true that this is not as loud as spurce? I'm wondering if the compression of a Koa is desirable as I need a guitar that projects for unamplified group singing. Also, does Taylor make this in a custom shop type setup for a wider fretboard? Thanks.
I really, really want that guitar too! Haha
Wow...just wow
Which Martin would you compare this guitar too? Just curious.
In my humble opinion- any 000 cutaways from Martin...but you can't compare Taylor's and Martins because they stand for completely different things and are both good in their own unique ways! The way the put together the wood is completely different. Even the coating is different! Dovetail attachment vs wooden pins for Body to Neck attachment. V Brace vs X Bracing..... *Its guitar imagined in 2 completely different ways*
However...as a general rule...Martins growl in the bass more, and sound more "open". Taylors sound a little crisper, "tighter", and a little bit higher!
@@AudiowaveTV Fair Enough :-)
Wow that is slick!😳
Is this louder than the 9/12 I had a 912 but I sent it back cuz it was just too quiet and I got a good deal on it but now I wish I would have just bought this or the 914
Ok man I am torn. Between this guitar and the 914CE LTD sinker top. I had a BTO sinker/matched rosewood that I let go and have kicked myself for years.
Chris if I had the extra funds I would gift you one!!!😎
You're a real one!
please help me! :) should I wait and get this one or 816ce BE? i mostly do strumming, I like big and refined sound. I'm worried that smaller body of k24ce and all koa body will not give me as much sound as Lutz spruce top and rosewood?
Unfortunatelly I can not try either of these guitars:( thanks!!
Curious as to how this sounds next to my regular k24ce v class
My brother loves this guitar
How much is it?
Gorgeous sounding and looking and I’m not even a Taylor fan. But 5k+ is a little ridiculous.
Not! There are worse things to spend money on.
@@guitarman3396 so, so many more worse things. E.g. people that buy a brand new car, and immediately loose thousands of £££ just by driving it off the forecourt. Just buy a second hand car and stick a k224ce builders edition in the boot
Getting an electric guitar.... Any recommendations? Was looking at Squier Standard, Squier Classic Vibe, or Fender Player Series. Are the differences between the three worth the increased price?
Justin Askins Justin I have several classic vibe telecaster and really like them.
@@lmgray835 you are certainly not the first person I've heard that from
Every time I think I’m getting close to being able to afford a nice guitar something always happens :((
Good Luck Bro
Like the price goes up?
I'll give you one Squier CV Tele + $100 in exchange for one?? :D I will *never* , either in this world or the next, be even 1/10 of the player I'd need to be in order to own something as stunning as this!
Chris you get this one or Snap up the custom koa with koa neck?
i want this
OMG THAT KOA!!! 😻
What is that silver mic you always use to record?
It is a Warm Audio 47 JR. Great mic!

I hope this gentlemen ended up with this guitar. 🙏
It is piano!
I have a k22 and had a k24 in the past honestly koa is not for me. I only keep the k22 cause the flame is so damn beautiful. I wish they made this is cocobolo or ebony
Play it at your church brother 👊
Send money! LOL! - Chris
@@AlamoMusic I bet that baby is high dollar
Rev Nugent - The Taylor 224ce-K DLX is a fraction of the price and sounds just as good. Also Koa. Made in Mexico but all Taylor quality. Best bang for your buck.
I dont like pick up I bought this a year 2 years ago its plays like heaven but the pick sounds crap so I change it to LR baggs Anthem
What kind of strings are on the guitar?
It comes with Elixir 12-53 phosphor bronze Nanoweb strings. - Chris
Be glad you didn't get it. The frets are soft. Needed full refret in a few short years. Also, the necks hqve a serious flaw. Some if them were not able to be completely bolted down. Threads bottomed out at the wood in the neck heel. Requires full tear down of the heel. The fretboard is soft too. I was sad to see this., oh, and the top split. This guitar looks and sounds good but is trouble if you want something that will last.
Yeah i had taylor sickness too...!!!!! Lol..
❤️😔❤️😔❤️
Just sell your car, don’t pay your rent for a year, spend six months just drinking water, rob a bank or possibly a mid level drug dealer and this $6,200. guitar can be yours.
It’s a great guitar but I believe nothing on this planet sounds as good as a D18 and a D28 Taylor make fantastic guitar’s but they are just not Martin but still great guitar’s
There’s no actual binding on that guitar it’s just painted
This is possibly a great guitar but for $5500 I can buy a buitique guitar like Santa Cruz or Huss and Dalton.
Chris you need to message me
I would want the glossy finish.
Taylor 224ce-K DLX is all glossy, all Koa, and a fraction of the price.
Why would you have to beg your wife for a guitar? If you want the guitar then buy it.
Rip your wallet buddy
No kidding. - Chris
paying too much for that muddy tone
God I wish I had money.
