Either they don't like this kind of music, think it's corny, or are Nazi sympathizers. Not a way of defaming them but just pointing out that they're likely the kind of people more willing to say "the allies were just as bad as the Nazis." The Russians maybe, but imho, despite being willing to use strategic bombing, the British and Americans were generally morally ambiguous tier as opposed to vicious murderers/genocidal tier.

RAF roll of honor for the Battle of Britain recognizes 595 non-British pilots (out of 2,936). Air Arm between 10 July and 31 October 1940.These included 145 Poles, 127 New Zealanders 112 Canadians 88 Czechoslovakians 10 Irish 32 Australians 28 Belgians 25 South Africans 13 French 7 Americans Altogether in the fighter battles, the bombing raids, and the various patrols flown between 10 July and 31 October 1940 by the Royal Air Force, 1495 aircrew were killed, of whom 449 were fighter pilots, 718 aircrew from Bomber Command, and 280 from Coastal Command. Among those killed were 47 airmen from Canada, 24 from Australia, 17 from South Africa, 35 from Poland, 20 from Czechoslovakia and six from Belgium. Forty-seven New Zealanders lost their lives, including 15 fighter pilots, 24 bomber and eight coastal aircrew. The names of these Allied and Commonwealth airmen are inscribed in a memorial book which rests in the Battle of Britain Chapel in Westminster Abbey. In the chapel is a stained glass window which contains the badges of the fighter squadrons which operated during the battle and the flags of the nations to which the pilots and aircrew belonged.
In the battle of Britain (1940) stats showing only 7 US pilots, basically volunteers. Because USA wan't that time involved in WW2 yet. After attacked on Pearl Harbor (1941).
Can you imagine being British, in the earliest years of the war, when it was just your island all alone against the most evil nation in the history of the world, with the Luftwaffe now encroaching on your island, fighting you above the seas and bombing your cities. Then, suddenly, you see a plane of a foreign nation flying right next to you, one that Britain was too late to protect, now in exile to protect Britain. I can't imagine how inspiring it would be.
Do you know how the British won the bombing campaign? They sent one single bomber and bombed Berlin. Hitler was so infuriated, he ordered to raze London. All the children were evacuated and as many people as it was possible. Then, the British kept bombing German industries while Germany was bombing a well defended city. #LogisticsIsKeyToVictory

Brucculi while I do think that the winged hussars moment was very cool, poland was not a guardian of Europe. No country was ever a guardian of Europe, as most attacks came from Europe itself.
Why give my 1 war...There are some Eastern Europe countries that i will rather by friends than Canada i never herd of brave Canadians mix of France and England
As much as I'm Canadian, and appreciate how the Canadian contribution to the Battle of Britain is mentioned in this song, it seems to not fit if the song's about fighter pilots from occupied countries (such as Poland and Czechoslovakia), since Canada wasn't occupied. Just a minor detail, still a great song.
It might be because Canada, Czecholslovakia, Poland, and America were the only countries with their own RAF squadrons that fought in the Battle of Britain (French, Australian, New Zealander, etc pilots fought in British squadrons), and Canada doesn't get enough recognition for their role in WWII.
@@ultraishere8128 there is a difference. Canadians shot down were treated as PoWs. Poles as Slavs were treated much worse as so called untermensch. And Czech(oSlovak)s were immediatelly executed as traitors because Czechia was so called Protectorate and it was basically part of Reich.
“On wings of history they turned from home to live eternally skybound they roam!” “In all of history never before was so much owed to so few!” I think it is the most epic line ever said in human history, sabaton and Churchill what a good combination
"They were ready to fly, They were ready to die!!!" This explains the courage of each warrior that they will be ready to win a war, even if they have to die for it.
The phrase references the fact that Brits decided that since all the mainland air forces were easly defeated by the Luftwaffe, it means that Polish, Czechoslovakian pilots are untrained. In fact many of said pilots already had numerous kills on their count in battles over Poland or France. This also explains why 303'rd Squadron did so well in the Battle, basicly they had the largest ammount of combat experience up to date (the fact that Polish Airforce training was one of the most thoughrough and challenging ones in the world also helped). Additionally, British pilots flew to fend off the Germans from attacking the island, Polish pilots flew to kill the Germans
Listening to this on the 80th anniversary of the battle of Britain! May all those who took part finally know peace Especially my great uncle, who apparently (if this story is true) was so enraged by a bomber blowing up a spitfire he'd just finished fixing, leapt on the nearest anti air gun and proceeded to scream profanities at the offending bomber as he tried to shoot it down.
They were soldiers from all Commonwealth countries there, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, its no really surprising South Africa also had some soldiers.
Jan Smuts was leading South Africa at the time, and he was a staunch supporter of Britain. It was a member of the Commonwealth and declared war on Germany three days after Britain did.

dmvh222 Actually, no, the Poles had the most people in their division, coming in at more than 200 fighters. Canadians played a large part in the fight though, with an estimated 147 people fighting.
Michael Morgan funny thing a few years ago there was a anti polish immigrant propaganda posters made that said "BATTLE OF BRITTEN" on it and a pic of a fighter plane some people looked in to it and found out that the pic was from the 303th it made me laugh like fuck
Despite being a WW2 song, I had a blast playing fighter squadron on Star Wars battlefront 3 (the new one) to this song. Made the game 10x better than it actually is.
Let's admit it, if it wasn't for those 234 Polish fighters in the Dywizjon 303, there would not be a Britain left, If the czechs and the poles and the canadians had not decided to fight. They fought for other countries because they couldn't fight for their own lands. All the people who died, fighting for the abolishment of Nazis, I salute you.
***** Nope, the RAF beat them, a large part because if a German plane took light damages or the pilot was injured, he had no safe zone to land, he was effectively a complete casualty. If a British plane or pilot suffered the same, he could just land, bellow him is the British main Island.
***** Germans didn't do more damage to the English. I would like to see Germans search and rescuing planes in the middle of Britain before the local british troops get there. Just as proof of Britain doing more damage, lets check wikipedia. 1547 British Aircraft destroyed 544 British Aircrew killed 1887 German Aircraft destroyed 2698 German Aircrew killed 967 German Aircrew captured Those numbers support my statement. Edit: Churchill's own speech supports my statement. ".......and in addition all our injured machines and their crews which get down safely-and, surprisingly, a very great many injured machines and men do get down safely in modern air fighting-all of these will fall, in an attack upon these Islands, on friendly. soil and live to fight another day; whereas all the injured enemy machines and their complements will be total losses as far as the war is concerned." Quoted from the "Their Finest Hour" speech.
My first sabaton song. Makes me shed a tear to see how beautiful this band is and the fact it doesn't get any recognition in America. Sigh I hope rap songs will end....
This song makes me proud of being Czech. Just so you guys know a few things about the Czechoslovak pilots: they went to fight for Great Britain even though it abandoned their country in the Munich conference in 1938 and decided that Hitler would get 1/3 of the Czech territory without us even being there. Of course Hitler got all of Czechoslovakia later in 1939 right after he captured Poland even though our president Edvard Beneš pleaded for military help, once again we were betrayed. He was later forced to surrender and escape from our land. If you don’t believe me than I suggest you visit the underground bunkers along our borders. Let’s get back to the pilots though. After the war they weren’t even properly thanked for their service and so they returned back to Czechoslovakia. After 1948 the communists imprisoned and murdered them for their "collaboration" with the British. I bet you didn’t know that eh? Sadly you don’t hear this tale that often now......
This story absolutely blew my mind. Have loved ww2 history for 20 years and never knew this story of 500+ brave foreign pilots from USA to Jamaica to Aussies and of course the ever faithful Canadians! "And I an Englishman, flew wing to wing with a Pole and a Czech and felt much the better for it" British pilot during the Blitz
this song is more sad than hopeful in my eye. those pilots had nothing to do with britain, espesially Czechoslovakia that the british didnt protect, yet they fought to protect britain from the axis, only for america to steal the glory. in greece they dont even say about the battle of britain. they just say that france and poland died to the germans and that russia and america saved the day. but think it like that, if britain had fallen then the germans chould have attacked the russians at full force and it whould have defeated the soviet union
As a Brit, I (and many others) owe so much to these brave men who actually volunteered to give their lives for our freedom from the tyranny of the 3rd Reich. The ending to this song is perfect and made me shed a tear the first time I heard it :)
America actually helped supply Britain and Russia with a constant flow of replacement aircraft and ships before the official involvement in the war. If it wasn't for our industrial base europe and england would have fallen.
@@michaelbenjmitchell1 however true that statement may be for Britain the soviet Union wouldn't have fallen friend they had a much larger industry than the germans more men and a more willing cause to fight
@@dominicclarke4000 In case you have forgotten Stalin purged a good number of Officers and soldiers prior to Operation Barbarosa so the Soviets relied heavily on their reserves. Plus they did suffer very heavy casualties by the Finns during the botched invasion of Finland. Also if Japan had attacked Russia instead of the US in 1941 the Outcome of Operation Barbarosoa would be way different.
@@michaelbenjmitchell1 I suggest you look up and read the numerous articles about operation barbarossa an how Germany couldn't win they had no oil reserves which would have stopped their mechanised advance it just wasn't possible for the axis to win the only difference in that world would be that communism would be a global thing in everycountry seriously look stuff up before you talk about it
As an Briton, I am beyond grateful for what the exiled European pilots did to make sure our nation didn't fall to the Reich. Thank you for helping our people and our nation when we needed it most. May we repay you if you ever need help from us
Pretty much it was Britain AND several of her allies, most of whom had already fallen to the Nazis. Everyone knew that Britain was it for the Allies and that it had to stand, so everyone volunteered for the fight. Pretty amazing, really. The pilots rocked the skies.
I really want sabaton to make a song about vimmy ridge iT was the first time all the canadian divisions where together in WW1 under a canadian general and it was a good choice
That Random Guy the general wasn’t Canadian but other than that your right Currie didn’t take command of the Canadian corps until June 1917 I think, General Julian Byng was in command during vimy.
I miss the good old days in War Thunder where we fought the Germans(and some Italians) over the Britain in our US/British planes, now we're fighting Germans, Italians, Japanese, Russians and Swedes.
Regardless where they were from, or what they believed in, every one of the pilots and ground crew who took part in the battle of britain are heroes, whom we owe the freedom we have today to.
As a British person this song makes me very happy and grateful to all of the foreign allies that helped us. I want to send this song to the racists who think foreigners have no place in Britain!
"Never in the field of human conflict, was so much, owed by so many, to so few." -Prime Minister Winston Churchill, on the "Longest Day" of the Battle of Britain, August 20, 1940
"Had it not been for the magnificent material contributed by the Polish squadrons and their unsurpassed gallantry," wrote Air Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Dowding, head of RAF Fighter Command, "I hesitate to say that the outcome of the Battle (of Britain) would have been the same." God Bless The Polish 303!
Bloody Evolution Perhaps but that’s not what Air Marshall Dowding is saying. Just that things would have been quite different, as in much worse for Britain. Without adequate Air Cover Germany would have bombed and killed 1000s more civilians. Fortunately that never happened thanks to the RAF "Never was so much owed by so many to so few" Don’t diminish sacrifice...
@@markgunns I hate diminishing sacrifices but this song doesn't portray the battle as it really was, thanks to the exiled aces and volunteers the Allies managed to vastly diminish the casualties.
For some reason, I find I have better Performance in the Spitfire when I listen to Churchill's Speech about the evacuation of Dunkirk. Weird, but It helps
I have heard a man he was Canadian his name was Douglas Badder an aerobatics pilot his plane crashed in 1933 when war broke out and the Germans were bombing Britain before that happened he lost both of his legs and got new prosthetic legs and he started learning how to walk again then to drive the finally To Fly again so he joined the RAF he was in Command of the 303rd polish squadron he was a leader amongst men he was Britains top fighter ace
until he was shot down and the best thing about having prosthetic legs is that when you're in a sharp turn and the blood rushes torwards your head from the legs up he doesn't have legs so he can't black out
If they had to fit every country that helped in, the song would get clunky and repetitive. But don't worry, from the skies of Europe to the seas of the Pacific, we haven't forgotten the part New Zealand played.
I said New Zealand especially because they had the 3rd most pilots after Britain (duh) and Poland. But I guess they weren't included because their performance wasn't as good as Poland and Czechoslovakia's
I'd say the focus of the song is on the pilots from eastern europe. They were the ones in exile. So the question shouldn't be why New Zealand isn't in the song, but why Canada is.
Shout out to the singer for being able to say Czechoslovakia correctly AND in tune with the song...that needs an award.
Well he is half Czech and half Swedish.

RAF roll of honor for the Battle of Britain recognizes 595 non-British pilots (out of 2,936). Air Arm between 10 July and 31 October 1940.These included
145 Poles,
127 New Zealanders
112 Canadians
88 Czechoslovakians
10 Irish
32 Australians
28 Belgians
25 South Africans
13 French
7 Americans
Altogether in the fighter battles, the bombing raids, and the various patrols flown between 10 July and 31 October 1940 by the Royal Air Force, 1495 aircrew were killed, of whom 449 were fighter pilots, 718 aircrew from Bomber Command, and 280 from Coastal Command.

Weren't there more Americans who fought too?
Yep, the "Eagle Squadrons" I think they aren't counted since they weren't there only for the BoB but were long-term pilots.

Keep pretending.
Gotta feel for the Czechs, fighting to defend a nation that didn't lift finger when the Germans rolled in on their home.
*****
Nope, the RAF beat them, a large part because if a German plane took light damages or the pilot was injured, he had no safe zone to land, he was effectively a complete casualty. If a British plane or pilot suffered the same, he could just land, bellow him is the British main Island.
*****
Germans didn't do more damage to the English. I would like to see Germans search and rescuing planes in the middle of Britain before the local british troops get there.
Just as proof of Britain doing more damage, lets check wikipedia.
1547 British Aircraft destroyed
544 British Aircrew killed
1887 German Aircraft destroyed
2698 German Aircrew killed
967 German Aircrew captured
Those numbers support my statement.
Edit: Churchill's own speech supports my statement.
".......and in addition all our injured machines and their crews which get down safely-and, surprisingly, a very great many injured machines and men do get down safely in modern air fighting-all of these will fall, in an attack upon these Islands, on friendly. soil and live to fight another day; whereas all the injured enemy machines and their complements will be total losses as far as the war is concerned."
Quoted from the "Their Finest Hour" speech.
Germany lacked a surface fleet to actually invade the UK. And bombing them into submission probably wouldn't have worked either.

Have loved ww2 history for 20 years and never knew this story of 500+ brave foreign pilots from USA to Jamaica to Aussies and of course the ever faithful Canadians! this song is more sad than hopeful in my eye. those pilots had nothing to do with britain, espesially Czechoslovakia that the british didnt protect, yet they fought to protect britain from the axis, only for america to steal the glory. in greece they dont even say about the battle of britain. they just say that france and poland died to the germans and that russia and america saved the day. but think it like that, if britain had fallen then the germans chould have attacked the russians at full force and it whould have defeated the soviet union
