A long time fan from down here in Australia. One of the best rock bands that I've ever heard in my 65 orbits around the Sun. And I've grown up & seen a lot of the greats since the early 70's. The main reason that a lot of us old blokes love these bands from Japan, is that they bring back the 'essence' of all those old sounds we grew up with. Sounds that have been missing from mainstream music for the last three decades.
I am a Band-Maid fan through and through, they are amazing musicians that simply never disappoint. I live in Austin, TX and saw Band-Maid live back in May and they were incredible live, sound was perfect and they were having so much fun. Their beauty is even more stunning in person and their smiles are so infectious. I recommend songs like Domination (live), Hate? (Live at Lollapolooza), Puzzle (live), Shambles, Blooming, Warning, Choose Me, Unleash, Onset, anything they have is awesome, just so many great songs!!
As a BAND-MAID fan and a musician, I hope you react to more BAND-MAID simply because, as a musician, you appreciate the talent and charisma of the five talented gals. Thank you for your reaction.
Great commentary and reaction. The rhythm guitarist, backup vocalist, lyricist and band founder Miku Kobato is playing her own beautiful signature model A24MF-FP Zemaitis Guitar she helped design named the "Flappy Pigeon" during the first song Manners and then she switched to the Aces and Eights Zemaitis for Black Hole. All the members of Band-Maid are extraordinary in their own right and work seamlessly together to make incredible great music.
So many of their songs are different that it's not simple to put them in a genre. They are not so much Metal as they are Hard Rock with a Punk influence. There are three songs they did in 2020 in their World Domination Tour that are worth seeing. All are on their channel and called "Official Live Video" (much better than their studio "Music Video" choices). "Freedom" shows just how much fun they have performing. Everybody is so happy. And there is an excellent drum solo. "Play" is also very good, with an interesting (for drummers at least) moment where she switches from hitting the skins to hitting the rims for a short bit. And "Domination" is the title song of the tour. This live performance, unlike the studio version and most of their other live shows, includes (fairly short) solos of every instrument.
No you called it without realizing. They incorporate punk vibes, metal/speed metal vibes, jazz vibes, rock/hard rock, ballads, acoustic- they do it all and all well.
I believe Saiki, the lead singer, has the perfect voice for rock and this group. She does have an incredible vocal range. "Wonderland" is a song that showcases her vocal range.
Yep, I second that. My favourite vocal piece from Saiki-sama - she sails through 3 octaves very smoothly at one point, among other vocal gymnastics. Po!
There is an interesting story behind "Black Hole". According to Akane, Kanami asked her how fast she could drum. Akane said around 190 bpm. Then Kanami went off and wrote "Black Hole" that peaks at 220 bpm! So Akane goes and writes the drum patterns for the track. She wrote 7, for the band to choose which one. She labelled them: 1. Easy 2. Comfortable 3. Normal 4. Possible if I work hard 5. Tough 6. Painfull 7. Hell Akane said "Of course, the band chose Hell"! (ps I'm from the UK)
When they appeared with Herman Li (Dragon Force) on his YT channel, Kanami asked Herman what their fastest song was and Herman said 230BPM, Kanami then said she'd like to write one at 240BPM. Not sure what Akane though about that.
Manners is also basically a 4 minute Bass Solo by Misa. It's not as in your face as some tracks like Dice or Hate, but seriously isolate and listen to that bass line. It's a monster!
May 2021 Player Magazine Interview with Akane - This time the last song BLACK HOLE had a great impact. In your previous album, Rinne was awesome, though… Akane: I felt like “Finally this came!” (laughs) - Finally you played this. I wonder what you will do in the future… Akane: I wonder too (laughs). - Was it originally like this in the demo? Akane: Yes. I had to keep kicking (the bass drum) longer, but it had many parts a human can’t play, so I modified it within the range of a human drummer, and it’s still like this. As for the last bass drum pattern, I made seven or eight patterns, and they were like “Names like ‘1’, ‘2’, ‘3’ are not easy to get, so name them according to your level”, so I actually named them like “Easy, Comfortable, Normal, Possible if I work hard, Tough, Painful, Hell”, and they chose “Hell” (laughs). It’s the phrase named “Hell”. - (laughs) However, didn’t you expect them to definitely choose “Hell”? Akane: Yes, I expected. I was prepared for it. I was sure they wouldn’t choose “Easy”. And this is why many of us love these Ladies. They constantly strive to be better to give us their fans good music and they never rest on their laurels. Always challenging themselves, and always meeting those challenges. Saiki has a sponsorship through Sennheiser if my memory is correct. Or she/the whole band did. They recently switched to a new wireless microphone system, and I don't know if it's a Sennheiser rig or not. And in the past Akane was sponsored by Sakae and Sonor before going with Tama.
3:58 SPOT ON!!! Band-Maid is a "Rock band" that moves between genres within Rock.... metal, punk, blues..... Some say they created their own Rock Genre
Blues rock to speed rock, just showing the broad range of music skill these amazing ladies have! Songs to check out? "Shambles", "Freedom"(live), "Play", "Puzzle", "Moratorium", "From Now On", "Without Holding Back", "Onset", "Yolo", "Reine", "Alone". That is a small sampling, too many great songs to list, really! Band-Maid is considered by many as having their own genre!
In Band-Maid's older interviews, Miku stated that their goal is World Domination through their music, and part of it is to create their own genre of music "Band-Maid".
Tha Maids are all great musicians, the songs demand it. The lyrics are so beautifully melodic and their instrumentals will blow your mind. Check out From Now On or On Set.
That 220 BPM final flourish on BLACK HOLE came as a result of Kanami, the lead guitarist and main song composer, asking Akane what her limit was. Akane probably replied "18 bananas and lots of ramen" until Kanami explained she meant her limit on the drums, at which Akane took up the challenge. Gotta recommend FREEDOM ruclips.net/video/FHpuEqMAcDg/видео.html as Akane has her longest drum solo in it, live! By the way, there are lyrics on the cc button on all their MV's over the past 3 or 4 years on their YT channel, including on the ones from this live streamed gig.
Band Maid fans here (me and daughter). We lived in Japan and started listening to Babymetal and Band Maid. Living in UK now and waiting for more Japanese bands to make it to Europe. (Saw Babymetal at Wolverhampton!!!!!)
Saiki; In Mexico City, at the end of the concert, Saiki wanted to say a few words to the crowd. Demanding the audience's attention while many continued to speak. She did like an impatient school teachers, a big Shhhhuuutt !!, having people's attention, she candidly delivered her message.
Thank you for your reaction and welcome to the Unseen World, the name of the fantasic album. My musical journey with the maids started with the MV for Manners and I think few other songs could have been as perfect for me at the time, maybe dice, as I come from a more softer style of music (think more like Pink Floyd or Peter Gabriel). As for Black Hole it is imho a master piece but it toke something about 20 listen to grasp it, now I love it but I can understand if not everyone does. I prefer to listen to Band Maid per album so it is always hard to suggest a single song but the mv for Blooming would do. Have fun! :)
Please, check out Band-Maid's 'endless Story' from the House of Blues Chicago 11-01-2022. It features an emotional drummer (Hirose Akane). It's a fancam by Edward Hunt but it's a very good clip. It's totally Akane-san focused. There's also an MV available of this track.
I'm a Maidiac from Ohio. After a while you stop trying to classify Band-Maid. You'll hear elements of Classic Rock, Punk, Prog, Pop, Metal, Rap, Fusion, Jazz, Broadway show tune influences, and whatever insanity they discuss while conjuring up song ideas. Chase Carneson simply calls it "Band-Maid doing Band-Maid things". They will surprise you nearly every time. Band-Maid has a wry sense of humor that they weave into their concerts. "Manners" was an experiment in song writing, the result of analyzing current hit rock songs and attempting to combine elements of them into their composition. Not long after releasing that album, Kanami vowed to stop listening to other bands. (Huh?) I believe "Black Hole" was written after Kanami and Miku were interviewed by Herman Li of DragonForce and Herman inspired Kanami to write a song upwards of 220 bpm! You've reacted to "Dice - Different" live and "Puzzle" live at Tokyo Garden Theater. Great songs and performances. Try "Dice - HATE?" at Lollapalooza 2023. Akane Hirose's drums are the connective tissue that ties the Bass/Guitar duels together and you can tell they're all having the time of their lives. Try a few of their instrumentals: "Onset", "From Now On", "Without Holding Back" Their Line Cube Shibuya live trilogy: "Domination", "Play", and "Freedom" are high energy. See what you think of wildly experimental "Giovanni" or when they dipped their toes into Japanese folk metal with "Gion-Cho" and "Secret Maiko Lips" But sometimes Band-Maid can be at their most powerful when they slow things down: "Daydreaming", "Wonderland", "Endless Story", "About Us". A few of my favorites: "Moratorium", "Cross", "Warning", "Rinne", "No God", "Alone", "Forward"
This "live" version of Manners is probably my favorite song by them, but Thrill (the song that saved them from oblivion) is the first one I heard and hooked me. Onset is a great instrumental example. I'm pretty sure Keith Moon was reincarnated as a girl from Hyogo, Japan named Hirose Akane. I'm 68 and living in Tennessee, and, as someone mentioned below, their work reminds me of the rock giants that came before. Rock is alive and well, living in Japan. Check out some of the other bands there. the pillows are old school, and Baby Metal is a quirky version of metal rock. Mrs. Green Apple, Scandal, and many more. Go down the rabbit hole, I think you'll like it!
They are all sponsored. PRS as you caught. Tama. The bassist plays on a brand called Black Cloud and the other guitar is a zemaitis and the model is her own model line called the flappy pigeon
Not just about. They can play anything, but they don't. If you watch an instrumental like 'Without Holding Back' or 'From Now On' you'll see BAND-MAID could play more technical stuff like Aldious or the Kami Band does, but they don't. Those are just opportunities to show off, and the instrumentals gives them that. But BAND-MAID has real songs. Tono & Kobato are Hit Machines as much as Lennon & McCartney were. I can only listen to Technician Fireworks for so long before I stop being impressed and want to hear a song that makes me feel something. That's what BAND-MAID has in songs like 'Daydreaming'. Go to the Instrumental Maid Channel for their technical prowess, but then watch a song like 'About Us' where they are sing to you the fan directly. That's more powerful than any technical wizardry.
The main singer, Saiki (pronounced like psyche, s-eye-key) was the last band member acquired, and the only band member to have to audition to be a part of Band-Maid.
You could pick the next song at random and have a fantastic song! They have no song I dislike. Only love more than others. And even that changes on my mood. Somedays I want something hard like No God, Black Hole, Shambles. Then sometimes I want "softer" songs like Daydreaming, Memorable, and About Us.
As a drummer, you really need to check out Freedom (Official Live). I think it's Akane's longest (released) solo. Big-time Maidiac, not yet seen them live, in Oregon.
Hello Colby thanks from Texas ,and I was fortunate to see them live concert in Houston's Bayou Music Center on May 14th 2023 and they were so spectacular and talented all the way aroud -22 song set started with Damonation and closed with Endless Story can't wait to see them again in the US 2024-cheers madiac nation .
Great reaction and yes, they are all excellent musicians and as you've discovered, a lot of musicians pick up on Akane and her terrific drumming, always exactly what the song requires. As for the next song, there are some that just work best from the official studio videos ( Don't You Tell Me) but for the most part, their live videos really highlight the reason this band is one of the best in the last 30 years (IMHO). You can start by going back to some of their older releases and build towards their newest (Shambles, release Aug.4th). They also have some killer instrumentals (Onset, From Now On).
haha. Am I a BAND-MAID fan? I am a BAND-MAID adorer, worshiper, devotee, idolizer, admirer. For Akane's longest official drum solo check out FREEDOM-LIVE. For pure Rock/Metal/Prog check out their latest instrumental FROM NOW ON. Akane also plays a mean cajon during acoustic sessions. The happiest drummer alive. The stories can go on and on. Peace.
Colby, queste ragazze hanno più di cento brani nel loro repertorio, è impossibile darti un consiglio,ma se proprio devo...Rinne,Hibana,Unfair game e Dont'tou tell me (live).Ascolta e godi!!!
Saw them end of May in Nashville and it's the best small venue show I've ever seen. You need to check out their latest release "Shambles" Akane absolutely murders that drum kit. If you can find some of her drum cam videos, her kick patterns are masterful
Saiki (lead singer)- Previously, from c2010, a photographic model, actress- film and stage, singer/dancer in backing groups and finally Lead singer in Band-Maid. When Miku (backing singer/Guitar/Red rose) was forming the band in mid 2013, she decided after a few shows, that her voice alone was not going to be enough for the band sound. So found Saki, who was acting on stage at the time but was also signed to their same agency. On 22 August 2013 they made their first performance as all five members. Their progression since, as a group and individual musicians has been incredible, pushed along by Kanami's (Lead Guitar) ever impressive compositions and arrangements culminating in the land mark album Unseen World in 2021.
Pretoria South Africa Rinne、Giovani、Instrumentals Onset、From now on、without holding back、Balads Daydreaming、Memorable、Second lead vocalist singing lead、Sayonakidori rock and acoustic versions and many more。。。
I put my vote in for their instrumental song Onset (Live). Although, any of their live performances are damn good and puts their studio versions to shame since they lack the raw energy and stage shenanigan fun.
Great reaction,BM are awesome live, the recent performance at Lollapalooza was just off the charts, please check out the song,,HATE,,live at lollapalooza, the ladies absolutley smashed it out the park, enjoy.
I have no idea why some people in the Maidiacs community are so sentimental about this sound stage performance. There are so many other live vids to send someone to for a first/second impression. These covid live streams just really don't do them justice.
Yep. The fan cams are the best, like Vlad and Ron Ayala. I wish mine were as good, but most have some quality or unique angle. Virtually all fan cams will capture what makes them unique. It’s a combination of all that’s good in a band.
Okay maybe I get you now but correct me if I'm wrong. You're so focused on the music because you have a talent for it that your commentary is secondary. You did some research so points for that. If you spent an minute after reacting I think it would do you some good. Keep it up though I'll keep watching!
I have their albums and watch people react to them so I guess I'm a fan. Watching from UK, London area. I'm a bassist but I love a lot of very different music. Drums wise if you haven't already you should check out Sokoninaru ruclips.net/video/n7MyoBki9wk/видео.html & the Hiromi Trio Project from 7 mins in ruclips.net/video/VJExqsrZzeA/видео.html plenty more good stuff but these two are outstanding imho.

Peace.
i know this is not the answer you were looking for , as to which song you need to hear. EVERY DAMN ONE OF THEM!!! WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!
Saiki's voice when singing Manners OMG, reminds me of Vocal Rock 80-90, a little bit of Alanis Morissette's voice is heard
Colby, queste ragazze hanno più di cento brani nel loro repertorio, è impossibile darti un consiglio,ma se proprio devo...Rinne,Hibana,Unfair game e Dont'tou tell me (live).Ascolta e godi!!!
🤘
I am going to recommend Form Now On as your next reaction. An instrumental.
Pretoria South Africa Rinne、Giovani、Instrumentals Onset、From now on、without holding back、Balads Daydreaming、Memorable、Second lead vocalist singing lead、Sayonakidori rock and acoustic versions and many more。。。
Yes, love Band-Maid! They are fantastic in every way, check out more!! Watching from Knoxville, TN. Thanks for the reaction.
I put my vote in for their instrumental song Onset (Live). Although, any of their live performances are damn good and puts their studio versions to shame since they lack the raw energy and stage shenanigan fun.
Akane normally uses a Ludwig Black Pearl snare with her Tama starclassic bubinga kit although she has also used a few others such as Gretsch
Thanks for sharing!
You should always check for subtitles, most of their videos have them. The lyrics are awesome.
Watching from Puerto Rico. I love Band-Maid.
Like what I've said in many reaction videos....Black Hole is like Prog Rock on Speed! And about every BAND-MAID is a drum solo.
song:Delubyo
Band: Skychurch
Home grown metal Ph!

Check out "Warning" MV and the official live version as well 👍🏼
Great reaction,BM are awesome live, the recent performance at Lollapalooza was just off the charts, please check out the song,,HATE,,live at lollapalooza, the ladies absolutley smashed it out the park, enjoy.
Domination official live please... its awesome... and FREEDOM has a nice short drum solo😗
Here for Band Maid 😂😅😂❤❤❤ They are committed to their performance 💯💥
👍🏻🤘🏻
Jimmy Page was so imporessed by Akane (drumer) that he ask to meet her. He said she's John Bonham reincarnation. That speaks for itself.
This band kicks major ass.
I would certainly go see them if they toured the uk
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
@@ColbyFultonDrums "onset" live is amazing too
Songs to react next:
From Now On (official MV)
HATE (@ Lollapalooza)
Puzzle (official Live)
According to Google this is there style
Hard rock heavy metal pop rock
Deep funk rock to thrash metal pop?
No problem.
Two things. Band-Maid just cannot make a "bad" song. And, they do not belong to any genre, Band-Maid IS a genre.
Great band 👍👍👍
🤘🏻🤘🏻
Check out their instrumentals:
++ Onset (Live): ruclips.net/video/mVrN-j_Uc0U/видео.html
++ from now on: ruclips.net/video/a6ZSvmnkS00/видео.html
++ Without holding back: ruclips.net/video/ygdZLBRy1uE/видео.html
and their nicest video for "Unleash": ruclips.net/video/7LB_EPS48HE/видео.html
BM fans are Maidiacs. Their songwriting starts from the mind of Mincho.
😁
Haha, if you think MISA's shredding it here, you've some treats in store...
As a drummer, could you please make more constructive comments, rather than milking the comments and likes - it'll get more people to come back and encourage folks to become invested.
Have you gone down the Led zeppelin rabbit hole yet?
John Bonham is the greatest drummer ever.
Start with Ramble On.
His Holiness TinyHat-san welcomes you to the Unseen World that leads to World Domination.
👍🏻👍🏻
I am a maidiac 4 life!❤💯🤘🤘
