I feel that it’s important to recognise the impact of the West Indian community in England. I’ve seen a lot of videos recently that are dismissive of what was the largest Black community in London. We were the voice of change and had to fight for decades for our rights in The UK, the race relations act being one of them. Asians and Africans benefitted from the Caribbean people’s fight at a time when they didn’t feel confident in “biting the hand which feeds them”.
I've been saying this, my parents have been saying this. I'm Nigerian, born and raised in Brixton, Loughborough. My dad and mum met in Brixton in the 80's and they were telling me if it wasn't for the Jamaicans in the UK, People of colour , black middle easterners and asians wouldn't have any rights or a voice. Jamaicans were at the forefront of the political fights, marches and protests. They are the backbone for our freedom and rights tbqh
@@sweetbutshowa Respect to you. Your opinion unfortunately is extremely rare amongst a lot of Nigerians and other African people. They do a lot of minimising of the Windrush people's contribution and like to brand our people as 'troublemakers' when we were defending ourselves against racist violence- not me personally but my parent's and grandparents generation.
Bro Brixton was mostly Caribbean, Africans were mostly in Peckham. I'd say Brixton is better now, due to the gentrification. The crime is much less and it brings more money in. Less crime and more money to obtain is better in my opinion.
