    Great video, I visited here in 1999. Some people say Bassae, others Vassae. Either way, it's a beautiful temple and location. Very rugged terrain and fairly harsh weather. I assumed the tent was there permanently to protect it from further deterioration from the elements.

      Thanks! Was it much different back then? I can't imagine it's changed a lot, but I hope they can get it cleaned up and repaired properly again.

      @@WorldHeritageJourney The temple, bracing and scaffolding look pretty much the same but the tent was newer and in much better shape 20 years ago! :)

      I can believe that! The tent certainly wasn't at its best on the day we visited - who knew they had cyclones in the Meditteranean?! 😂

    Is the temple still today, "exactly" North-South oriented or just approximately?

    • @WorldHeritageJourney
      @WorldHeritageJourney  3 года назад +2

      I'm not actually sure how precise it is, but from memory it's pretty close (within a couple of degrees north/south). It's highly unusual though, since most Greek temples are oriented east/west - this is one of the only ones that isn't! Thanks for watching 👍

      If it is actually oriented N-S, exactly. It is the proof that the temple moves.

      @@O-Kyklop - Moves? As in people broke it down and took it other places and reconstructed it almost like a tabernacle?

    • @O-Kyklop
      @O-Kyklop Год назад

      yeah, moves. staying always N-S. And if it lies actually N-S then it has moved during the last 2,5K years. Otherwise why would they have built it back then holding the actual N-S position?
