He is right. We have no rights with God. We are totally undeserving of His grace and His love. We all fall short but that's not an excuse to not repent and stay humble. It's a constant "check" (as in chess) of our sinful nature, and repentance in a daily basis. The days are evil. The good news is we don't have to tackle this alone. God gave us His son Jesus and His spirit. I alone am nothing. When I humble myself and ask God for help, I can conquer anything.

When Paul said he was called to be a slave of Christ and his grasp of grace did it have anything to do with his career he gave up as a lawyer studying to be on the Sanhedrin or a judge on Israel's Supreme Court in order to serve God and be a homeless tentmaker and tell his Church plants that he didn't take money so he wouldn't be a burden as he'd rather make tents?

You may want to really dial back your preaching. Some people just might take you seriously. (Suggestion: At the end of every prolife sermon, no matter how factual or fiery, qualify it by saying “if a politician comes along who will save these children, before giving your support, make sure you are swayed by the media, who may have nasty things to say about him.”)
