Great video Charly but sad to see what I see as the demise of a once great fishery. I was fishing matches in the 60's and 70's when river matches were in their prime and it was good walking to all pegs. Sadly the Carp puddles have now taken over and access to many river stretches is now a jungle clearing excersise. Still good to see the old places and many thanks to you for bringing back so many memories.

Respect due to everyone from the 1st August Leeds & DASA working party who cut these superb pegs, plus a couple of intrepid trailblazers who've started to open things up much further on, as you've noticed.
The stretch seems to be getting fished since the working party and your video will help with that. Hopefully the fact that it's so far from the parking will keep any idiots away. We were lucky with the timing of recent rains 2 weeks ago, as the working party coincided with the last flush dropping out - so people then fished it, caught and reported.
In contrast, there was a working party in May on the lower stretch you show at the end of video 186, but we had no rain for a month and the river became very difficult so people seemed to stop fishing it after about the first week or two of July, and as you saw that's why some of it is now so overgrown, but a bit of rain and a bit of hacking and there are a dozen or more great pegs waiting there too.
But careful with that hogweed people. Read up, report it (especially next Spring before it's too late), and be very careful
    Great videos Tom.

Fantastic Video Charly, I must have missed this one from last year.
I loved this length when I was younger, in the early 90's I caught 4, 6lb Chub in just one day, plus a 7lb Barbel and a 3lb Perch.
    All fished upstream with lobworm.
You've just convinced me to get a Leeds Book this year!
    Keep up the great vids!

Hi Jason. Thanks for your kind comment. One six pound chub would make for a memorable day :)

what a brilliantvideo havent been to hammerton for44years what a state its got into the horse shoe bend was deep and slow flowing then their was a small streight with willows on the far bank good chub pegs just a little bit further down was a bend with shallow rapidsthatwas fullofchuband barbel , then their was a streight section which was featureless except for one place where the river bed had been gorged out by floods what a peg the barbel would feed at exactly 3 oclock every day not a bight till then then they would come to feed in good numbers . happy days we used to walk from the mill to skip bridge regular ly.

Oh what memories, Hammerton Mill & Railway lengths were my two favourite spots to fish. The horseshoe bend was filled with chub & barbel, so many great days fishing. Perhaps my single favourite peg was "The Stumps" near the beginning of the Railway length, so difficult to fish but so rewarding. Thanks for the memories, it was just over 40 years ago since I was last there.

@@Charlyfarly2 I was astounded to see the amount of overgrowth now at Hammerton. Although you highlighted a few accessible pegs I really wonder what happened. OK, so it'S about 40 years since I was there, but even so. Isn't it used for matches any more? I used to fish with Leeds Electric club and Hammerton was the prime location for our matches, although working shifts I used to go there privately as much as possible. By the way, in your video it looks like you went beyong the mill length into the railway stretch, is that so? Somewhere around 22 minutes you were at a spot that looked very much like the peg I know as The Stumps, only that there were no stumps (old fence posts) visible in the river.

@@keithwood4031 Every year a group clear about 30 pegs starting at the mill. I covered about two thirds of it starting at either end, the mill and Skip Bridge. The middle bit was impenetrable as it was mid summer. There are matches, but few in number and even fewer anglers.

Hey Charley I’m from West Yorkshire and would like pointing in the right direction for big perch. Never had one over 2lb which is a fair fish but I’m looking for those 3lb fish. Haven’t been fishing in a long time n wouldn’t mind getting out on a river for a big perch👍

I fish the Nidd regularly, but in June 2016 we were in West Sussex, and I had a walk along the Rother near Woolbeding Garden, and I thought to myself "looks a lot like the Nidd"!

A great stretch just gone to ruin, can't the farmer do something for his money, a bloody jungle, poor access, and probably containing a fraction of the fish it used to, sad to see it😢
