    Oof! Very few, and I mean very few painters can handle a high chroma palette with such aplomb. And your tiling man… It’s a beauty (great sitter too!)…
    You’re a rare bird sir. Only thing that bugged me a bit was the highlight on the second eye, I might’ve knocked it down just a touch, but hey, in my dreams I can handle colour like this, my heavy hands turn this entire palette into desaturated mud!
    Subbed. A brilliantly gregarious, authentic portrait. Sustained applause… 👏

      That's awesome! Much thanx! I will definitely do more of these.... along the way.... alla prima is definitely all out approach. The turning color to mud is what happens when we over mix... which tends to happen when we stare into each individual color note too long. Instead stand back and squint or blur your vision.... see the 'whole'.... then flash your focus for a millisecond at the note you are wanting to capture. That fleeting moment is your chance to see the color note in relationship... not in isolation. This will help in seeing its color identity as it is different to the others. When we stare at a color note on our subject for more than a second.... we lose context... we lose the 'whole'... we lost the relationships, and instead see it in isolation and have nothing to compare it to... once this occurs we see every color in the rainbow in that one now isolated color note... and seeing every color in the rainbow in that one note will lead to over mixing... and then walla! Mud.

    Amazing video! How did you studied Charles Bargue plates? In a lot of ateliers, they are used for sight size drawing method.

    • @paintkerrypaint
      @paintkerrypaint  4 месяца назад +1

      I didn't really study the Charles Bargue plates but I sometimes teach them as the principles are so good. They can be sight size... or even comparative measurement if one is so daring! (larger than the print)

    This is quite a nice painting in my opinion. As I love color I think this style of painting puts color where it deserves, it reminded me not of Van Gogh at first but Gauguin instead and the fauvist movement painters. Delightful for me !!!

    Number 1 mistake (an exceedingly common one!): the habit of putting too much white in every color.

    • @paintkerrypaint
      @paintkerrypaint  4 месяца назад

      hmmmmm... so true. Try taking white off of your palette. Not sure how well this would work as your only way to lighten would be yellow. But another tactic might be every time you lighten with white (value) is to also consider what the color change is (hue). Objects also change color as they turn toward or away from the light, or as they go up and down the value scale. Using analogous colors can also be helpful, such as shifting from green to yellow or blue to purple, rather than mixing opposites like orange and blue which make mud. Black is also a good color to remove from your palette when practicing color. Cheers!
