Do you know the Altmühltal? It's basically the valley of the Altmühl river. It's in central bavaria and a tourist area in summer (bicycle, boats, motorbikers...). maybe a good idea for the last summer days / weeekends. of course there are lots of restaurants and biergärten all along the river and it surrounding towns so you can test lots of different food and beer. many of the towns there have old centers that are quite beautiful and quiet (e.g. Treuchtlingen). I guess the most beautiful part of it is between Altmühlsee lake and Kehlheim.

When it comes to bread (and also sausages) Germany gets the best of many worlds. By that I mean that many central and eastern european countries have a similar variety of breads (and sausages) when it comes to 'typically German breads (and sausages)' - and maybe they even have more. But Germany sits on the border of different bread (and sausage / meat) cultures. So we get to have both; what's common in the northern parts (Danish rye breads are awesome), in the southern parts (Baguette, Ciabatta - all the way to Turkey with the flatbread) and the eastern parts (mixed "grey" breads etc.) - plus "our own" Laugengebäck. And it's very similar with the sausage/meat culture (esp. in terms of sausage variety I think the variety is even greater east of Germany).

Auch vom Fleisch her.
Believe or not : we both are in love with the USA and so sad that we cannot enjoy our planned NY TRIP in may because of the Virus. Since my very early childhood, I was under the influence of America. Think of Mister Ed, the speaking horse or Bonanza. And I never will forget the rock and roll records of my uncle, there were so much more exciting than the music of my parents ( Schlager ). And I never expected the kindness to us, when noticed that we are germans. " my grandfather was from Hamburg '", " I was in Bavaria with the US - Army'", " please tell me about your health insurance" " Auf Wiedersehen" ect. This happened most every day during our US vacations. And I learned, that the american food is much better than the rest of the world told us. I really enjoyed it, most of all the breakfast, especially corned beef hash, awesome!! And the Las Vegas buffets with the prime ribs makes still my mouth watering. But you are right with the bread. There is nothing better than german bread. But this is not only a american problem. When I come home from Spain, the first walk is to the bakery. And finally let me tell you : the beer in the USA is much more than OK, it was always good, better than expected. In Vegas or NY it was not difficult to get a good one, even Hefeweizen and Oldtown Ale Düsseldorf Style was possible most every corner. Only the way they served it, I mean without foam, wasn't so much fun. Beer without foam is like mashed potatoes without gravy ( let it for the english 😉). Liebe Grüße und bleiben Sie gesund! Bernhard und Sabine
We have some rough parallels. I expatriated from Colorado to Mexico 22 1/2 years ago. (Puerto Vallarta area on the Pacific coast.) Moving my life to Mexico is probably the single best decision I have made, ever, period. I became a Mexican citizen in 2008, and am so grateful to Mexico and its warm, inclusive people for allowing me to have such a rewarding, interesting, and happy life here. Counter intuitively, I am also fascinated with Germany, since my first visit in the early ‘90s. I say counter intuitively because in so many respects the two cultures are almost opposites. Yet I am intensely drawn to them both. Unrelated to my visits to Germany, my daughter, son in law and grandchildren have lived near Heidelberg for 12 years. He is an engineer, employed by a large German multinational firm. They are now permanent residents, very happy, and cannot imagine living again in the USA. I am at the point where I want to start spending 180 days in Germany as often as the Schengen Area rules will allow. In between my 3 month stays, I’ll be returning to Mexico. While in Germany I’ll just rent a place for each 3 month stay; nothing fancy. I’m a low overhead minimalist by nature. This type of cross cultural life has been my plan for a number of years, and as soon as the pandemic eases enough to allow travel, I’ll finally begin. One specific question please; to be responsible I should have health insurance valid for each 3 month stay in Germany. I am 69 but, knock on holz, in excellent health so far. Do you know where one would look to price short term policies of this nature? Allianz perhaps?
Hi, maybe you should start a youtube channel and show us some of the life experiences you have there, I for one would subscribe! I started my insurance search on google, I think the two I started with were Cigna and Allianz.... and that led me to the search for what Germany required. At first my previous employers insurance was good enough and me the minimum requirements, but then I need to buy one for the last two months... good luck!
If you think about it, bread and beer is pretty much the same thing -- only in liquid or solid form. I'm happy to have found your videos.
3:46 If you like the clothes and songs of the 70´s, try to visit the "Schlager-Move" in Hamburg. Something like the former Loveparade, but no Techno-Sounds, Schlager only. From the early 50´s to Helene Fischer of today. Also called "Der Karneval des Nordens". Maybe not this year, but keep it in mind. It´s worth a trip !
Hi bigfun, good to have you here! Everybody should travel and move to discover the country in which he or she was born and raised - for the good or the bad. There are so many differnt ways to make a good living. I´m now an old guy and always travelled and wanted to move to other countries (incl. the US). For me everything was bad here, but In the end I´m in Germany and enjoy my live. The most about quality of life in Germany I learned abroad. I agree with all points you mentioned, especially the beer thing (sorry I don´t know your wife ;-)). Prost! Dettmar
I'm planning to come to Germany for school and would just love to stay there. I've been doing a lot of research about the country and I'm loving it. Thank you for this. I can't wait!
It's nice to see that there are people like you, who come to Germany and staying because they like it how it is. Seen so many people who are staying in Germany only to complain about what is in there old country better.

I think especially the last part is kinda important to mention. Unfortunately this is what i hear every time when meeting an american, australian or whatever foreign person. All are surprised that we aren't actually all grumpy introverts :D So i'm glad you made those experiences. And i think especially these parties and "Volksfeste" do help to get in touch. Everybody wants to have a good time - no matter who you are or where you are from. Thanks for this outside view on our life here. Sometimes after a while you start questioning life here. So it's good to be reminded on how nice this country actually is. Enjoy living here and all the best for you and your wife. Will definently keep following your channel. I like your style of making the videos. Not much needed than sharing some thoughts. Lets hope all these restrictions are over soon so we can enjoy normal life again :)
If you like Chiemseer, try Tegernseer (maybe even dare to the "Spezial") - it is *the* best Lager, if I may say so :) Great video, the outside-in look is always so refreshing. And just the little details like picking up our variety of breads ... you're a German!

Thumbs up... that is really a nice summarization of our habits... thank you for that... and of course, we like the US very much... not to stress the favour you did to all of us of getting rid of that short lasting dictatorship 75 years ago... the real deal to me is one quite outstanding qualification highlight of the US and its citizen that tops everything worldwide and that is: KEEP IT SIMPLE. Y'all are very great in this... respect!
Thank you for this video. I have no idea WHY RUclips decided to put it into my new-video feed but I am glad that they did. Just from this video alone I can tell that you are nice and calm person and listening to you is just soothing. I used to live in the states for 6 years and basically felt the same "welcome" there (El Paso, Texas). I like how you explain why you like and appreciate Germany. I believe there are a lot of countries in the world that one would start to really like if you just live there for a certain amount of time. I for example LOVE the Netherlands, the culture, history, food, etc. and who knows maybe one day I will move there ;-) Again, thank you for this and your other videos! P.S. Regarding bread and MY favorite topping - Obatzter with fresh white onions and a nice cool Beer is an AWESOME choice at pratically any time of the day :-)
Fellow Chicagoan here, I enjoyed your video. I thought I heard you say soda and not pop, or did my ears deceive me? Anywho, you made Germany sound very exciting; maybe I'll have to plan a trip to the land of my ancestors. Take care and stay safe.
Nice videos on your channel, subscription made! I always liked listening to americans speaking about and analyzing germany and the culture scince I met some exchange students from Chicago when I was in school. Also I enjoyed talking to quite some americans on the rock festivals here during the last years. Always interesting. If you like the historical roman architecture that can be found in germany and you ever make a trip to cologne, I would suggest to make one of the guided tours "under colone", where you get to see some actual excavations unter the streets of colone in basements or in underground car parking lots. Really fascinating. Keep up the channel.
You are very welcome here and thanks for sharing your thoughts on Germany. We germans sometimes forget how good it is to live here.and tend to complain about everything ;-)
One of my viewers told me about your channel. I really enjoyed this video. You are a great ambassador to Germany. I would love to live in Germany, but it wouldn't be practical for my wife and kids, none of whom speak German. So instead, I make German language videos about life here in Florida. There's a lot of Germans who like to visit Florida. Anyway, I plan to watch more of your videos. 👍 P. S. You mentioned how Chicago is historically associated with the meat industry. I'm 48, and to this day I associate Chicago with meat because one of the books I had to read in high school English was Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle", which was about the horrible conditions in the meat packing plants in the early 20th century.
Hi! I just took a look at your channel, and I will go back and watch some more.... we love Florida!
Alles richtig gemacht. Bleibt gesund, liebe Grüße die Angin ;-)
Its so nice for me (german) that you enjoy your experience in germany so much. And I have to say, that you discribe germany very well.
Have a good time!
Thank you for the kind words about our country. Prost, cheers
I am always kindly surprised how people from differend countrys think and talk abbout Germany and their residents.
Thank's for this words.
LG
Glad to hear you feel welcome in Germany! I am also glad to have someone like you here :) Thank you for sharing your insights, they really broaden my horizon!
Thank you so much!
Its super heartwarming listening to people who are talking about basic things (basic to Germans) like Fleischküchle with a smile on their faces. Keep going with your positive attitude!
Hi, great video and Danke Schön , yes I miss Germany, after years in beautiful Canada.
But we have to make decisions.
Yes we do
Thank you for sharing your experience with us, so we can see that our country is beautiful. We are always ranting about everything here, you help us see things from the eyes of a stranger. Thanks and sorry for the bad english
What a nice person you are. Welcome to germany. People like you are incredible. . wish you the best
2nd video of your I've watched today... and I ironically I'm having a Bier with you as well... LOL, Prost !!! I'm glad to hear how much you love Germany as well as I do... I've been going there on and off since 2011, so I am hugely excited to finally move there... I'll need to up my game on my RUclips presence... LOL, but I'll get there... Cheers again, keep the video's churning out. They're great.
Nice American-in-Germany- video.
By the way- the oldest existing houses/ buildings in germany are over 400 years old. Not to forget about the even older churches and cathedrals. Now you're a part of this culture. And you are so very welcome. Stay healthy.
" my grandfather was from Hamburg '",
" I was in Bavaria with the US - Army'", " please tell me about your health insurance" " Auf Wiedersehen" ect. But this is not only a american
problem.
It's nice to have you with us. Welcome
It´s worth a trip !
great having you here! enjoy your journey of discovering germanys best things
Thank you! 😃

Hi bigfun,
good to have you here!
Thank‘s for this very nice though honest video. Enjoy your stay in Germany. 😀
And here's subscriber #966! ;-) You have a very pleasant way of talking and a very comforting voice. Looking forward to watching more videos!
Stay healthy out there, greetings from Saxony
Thank you! and you stay healthy as well! :)
ur such a nice person i bet you influenced alot of humans with your positivity, keep it up man :) grüße aus österreich
Hallo Herr Scott, interessantes Video. Weiterhin viel Spaß und genießen Sie Ihr Leben :)
Excellent points! #1 I loved and can relate. I am from Chicago (Logan Square) and lived in Germany for almost 19 years. You're right! The many experiences and learning something everyday. I subscribed!
I think especially the last part is kinda important to mention. Unfortunately this is what i hear every time when meeting an american, australian or whatever foreign person. All are surprised that we aren't actually all grumpy introverts :D
So i'm glad you made those experiences.
Very relaxing video and nice voice instantly subscribed
If you like Chiemseer, try Tegernseer (maybe even dare to the "Spezial") - it is *the* best Lager, if I may say so :)
Great video, the outside-in look is always so refreshing. And just the little details like picking up our variety of breads ... you're a German!
Lu Ger damn this is true.
Du warst so wundervoll entspannt. Dein Lieblingsbier, der die Vögel im Hintergrund..
Relaxing in the best way..
Und such a nice voice :)
Hope that wasn't just the beer talking in the end :-) No seriously - so glad you're enjoying it here. I lived in the US for about a year (25 years ago) and I tried to embrace your culture like you do with ours today. It really transforms you for life. Thanks for sharing this!
When you live around Ulm our when you go there try Gold Ochsen beer. It's the best. I from a Small City in Hessen, Anno 927.
What a nice guy u are Thanks for beeing here
Sehr angenehm dir zuzuhören und sympathisch
Funny video, your culinary advantage is that you are in the best state (Baden-Württemberg) for beer and food/Lustiges Video dein kulinarischer Vorteil ist, dass du im besten Bundesland bist, vom Bier als auch vom Essen
Vesper,Fleischküchle,Rothaus is typical for the south but i heard over there (North) they should also be nice :D
What a sympathetic Person..he love Germany so much!😊😉
Thumbs up... that is really a nice summarization of our habits... thank you for that... and of course, we like the US very much... not to stress the favour you did to all of us of getting rid of that short lasting dictatorship 75 years ago... the real deal to me is one quite outstanding qualification highlight of the US and its citizen that tops everything worldwide and that is: KEEP IT SIMPLE.
I for example LOVE the Netherlands, the culture, history, food, etc. and who knows maybe one day I will move there ;-)
Again, thank you for this and your other videos!
P.S. Regarding bread and MY favorite topping - Obatzter with fresh white onions and a nice cool Beer is an AWESOME choice at pratically any time of the day :-)
I love the Netherlands too! My Father was born there... and thanks for the suggestions, the Obatzter is AMAZING!!
The Germans welcome friendly and warm-hearted guests, always..... feel welcomed , cheers from Berlin Germany 🇩🇪
You are welcome
It needs a Yankee to learn what’s good in my country ;-)
Have a good time and enjoy
Fellow Chicagoan here, I enjoyed your video. I thought I heard you say soda and not pop, or did my ears deceive me? Anywho, you made Germany sound very exciting; maybe I'll have to plan a trip to the land of my ancestors. Take care and stay safe.
Great Video , what an awesome guy. THX!
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice videos on your channel, subscription made!
That's sooo true, I couldn't agree more. German greetings from Ecuador
Prost und ❤lich Willkommen,cooler Typ
I grew up going there every year to visit my cousins in Hollywood... and two years ago we spent some time in Siesta Key, an points south... we can't wait to get back... after all this stuff.... anyway.. thanks for watching! I feel like we need to do some sort of collaboration.... let me know what you think! Schönes Wochenende!
@@bigfunanAmericaninGermany I've never done a collaboration with another RUclipsr. I'd be honored to do one with you. Here is my email address: bpessaro@gmail.com. Look forward to hearing from you. Sunny greetings from St. Pete. ☀️🌴😎 Brian
Well, you should know that Hamburg is the largest trading location for Coffee in the World. You might want to find a good coffee shop and treat yourself to something special. Beats any Starbucks.
M Brieger.
Sehr sympatisch! Prost und Grüße aus Rheinland-Pfalz.
A Chiemseer and some Fleischküchle 👍👍👍👍 Didn't have them for years and now just called my wife and gave her some hints about what we could have for dinner 😁 You made my day, Prost
Danke! Ich hoffe, Sie abonnieren den Kanal.
"Germans love to sing" :o
Maybe when we're drunk :P
Yepp...but since we are drunk all the time, we tend to sing all the time :D :D
You´re a nice guy and your videos are great - so, here is another Abonnent! Take care!
Wunderbar!! danke!
thank you, that you are an gread ambassador for germany and germans
You seem to be a very lovely and curious and accepting/world open person! I like that! Greetings from Stuttgart!
Thank you! 😃
@@bigfunanAmericaninGermany You're very welcome! (... also in Germany of cause;-)
The plant in the beginning is called Wisteria, or Blauregen.

You are an awesome guy, feel very welcome in Germany, especially Baden-Württemberg 🇩🇪❤️🇺🇲
You have a very calm voice. I really enjoy listening to you.
Nice to have you here.
And meat cake is not that false considering that as ingredients you have bread (or better "Brötchen"), butter, eggs and oil...
