    Fantastic video, thanks for all that you have done. As you say there really is little info on an Atomos recorder/monitor & FX3 set-up and this definitely answered a number of things with this set-up. I actually bought a Shogun Connect yesterday hoping that I could record 4K120p out of the FX3 & it turns out that because the camera only runs at HDMI 2.0 the max res you can output is 4K60p. The only way to get 4K120p is via an SDI port & unfortunately that is a drawback to the FX3, in fact I believe that is why it is not a true Cinema Line camera, but rather an Alpha model. Really bummed, but hey-ho gotta get shooting until I can upgrade to an FX6 or similar:).

    • @AMomentInTimeProductions

      Actually Sony Could release a Firmware Update and allow the Camera to Output 4k 120, the Canon Does it and i believe the HDMI is 2.0 And the Atamos Ninja V+ HDMI is 2.0 so the HDMI 2.0 has nothing to do with the Limitation of the 4K 120 that is because Sony refuses to allow 4K 120 Though the HDMI, why probably because they want to sell there Cinema Line Models. We all Need to Bug Sony For a Firmware update and allow this they can do it and it's capable of it.

    • @AMomentInTimeProductions
      @AMomentInTimeProductions  Год назад +2

      yeah i never said you couldn't do any of them things, i was saying the Ninja V+ is required if you want to do Prores RAW at 60 fps..
      you can do it internally only with the CFexpress type A card but that would cost you thousands of dollars, CFexpress type A cards only come in 160 GB the highest size in space, and it cost $500.00 for 160 GB so if your recording Prores raw on the Nina V+ using a 2 TB SSD your going to run out of space on the CF express type A card really fast.
      Using CFexpress type A card is not really a good idea they are not worth it, i wouldn't even pay $100.00 for a 160GB card, i can get a WD BLUE 1.2 TB card for $90.00 the CFexpress type a card is a joke.. Not sure why Sony Insist on using that garbage card,
      they should be using the CFexpress type B cards , they are faster newer technology, cost a lot less, you can get a 2TB Cfexpress type B card for $500.00 or so, oh i know why Sony insist on using the type A instead , because Sony owns that technology every time
      a CFexpress type A card is sold they get paid LOL
      So goes to show you Sony Doesn't care about their customers only a payday...

    So you select XAVCS-I but that setting is only for internal recording. If you will be recording to an external device like Ninja isn’t the HDMI Output settings more relevant? And isn’t the HDMI Resolution setting only for playback like when connected to a TV. This was confusing. I think I need to read the manual now.

    • @AMomentInTimeProductions
      @AMomentInTimeProductions  Год назад +3

      The XACS-I is for internal, but recording though HDMI (NINJA V) the Ninja is using it's own codec which is Prores HQ which is equivalent to internally recording using XACS-I..
      And HDMI resolution setting is not just for playback it's for recording, it's the signal that is sent to the ninja the Ninja Only can record as good as it gets from the camera...
      When you choose XACS-I with in the camera and shoot externally, that XACS-I is going though the HDIM to the Ninja, for faster video flow to the NINJA and higher bit rate.
      Once the Ninja gets the video it then decodes it and then out put's it to Prores HQ or what ever coded you choose in the Ninja that being Prores Or DNX.
      So XACS-I is going though the HDMI to the Ninja yes, it's just not the final coded that the Ninja Writes to the SSD Drive.

      I believe the Ninja is not capable for doing 50FPS only 29.97 and 59.94 they call 59.94 60 fps because it's very close, the Ninja's Frame rates are on US standards , how ever 50 fps is Europe standers. the frame rates in Europe are 25 , 50 Not 29.97 and 59.94 so that is you can't get the same frame rate simultaneously from the camera and Ninja, so if you want the same on both you have to set your Camera frame rate to 29.97 and 59.94 not 25 or 50 never use 50 fps on your Sony Camera unless your recording footage for Europe

    Do you know why when I'm recording 120fps, why is my ninja saying 59.94fps? If I try to set "4k Output Set.(HDMI Only)" like you did, why are we both not seeing 120p 10bit as an option? I'm just asking because I know the NinjaV+ will recieve this signal, but my FX3 doesn't seem to have a mode to output it. Thank you.

    • @AMomentInTimeProductions
      @AMomentInTimeProductions  Год назад +1

      That's because the Sony FX3 and FX30 doesn't output 120 fps though HDMI.
      Only internal recording, which is stupid i agree, because both the Ninja and the camera's are capable of 120 fps, but Sony seems to block off 120 fps though HDMI, I'm not sure why they do that because it would work fine..
      The only reason i can think that Sony would do this, is first off if your going to do 4k 120 fps, you need to record that internally on a Cfexpress type A card, you can't do it on SD cards, so i think they are forcing people to go out and buy CFexpress type A cards, because CF express type A cards Belongs to SONY, so any time a manufacture that sells a SF express type A card sony gets paid some money for it..
      Another example is why they made both camera's using CFress type A rather than CFexpress type B, because Sony doesn't own Cfexpress type B, and How ever CFexprss type B is faster cheaper and better all around then CFexpress type A, but continue to make these camera's take CFexpress Type A, which really sucks..
      They cost like 3 or 4 times as much as a CFexpress type B and the highest capacity Cfexpress type A is 160 GB they don't make a cfexpress tyep A that holds more then 160 GB and that 160 GB card cost $500.00, how ever
      Cfexpress type B comes in at 2TB and also 4TB size, and the 2TB cfexpress type B cards you can buy them for like $600.00 to $800.00 where if you wanted 2TB of Cfexpress type A cards you would have to buy 14 160GB cads at $500.00 each which would cost you around $7,000.00
      It's really all about money, Sony doesn't really give a shit about you, they just want that payday coming to them, they could care less what is better for the customer, otherwise they would make the camera's take CFexpress type B instead of type A, which type A sucks, it's old technology and not as good either..

      @@AMomentInTimeProductions Sony now has 320 and 640GB cards now but, they are pricey. There are other folks that sell them in the US, not the larger size, only up to 160GB for less than Sony's cards.
      The 160GB will be fine in the FX30, for 4K Intra recording. I find the Intra size to be larger than recording on the Ninja in H.265 HQ. The SSD for the Ninja is also less costly than Sony's cards so that might be the better way to go. I got an Angelbird 512GB for the Ninja, it's a really good SSD. • @realghostactual
      @realghostactual Год назад

      @@AMomentInTimeProductions its still adjusting shutter "speed". Shutter "angle" is the same thing, its just worded and utilized differently. On higher end cinema cameras, when you change the shutter "angle" - for example to 180 degrees, and you are shooting 24p, it automatically sets what is the shutter "speed" to 1/48. If you were to change to 60p, than your shutter speed would be 1/120. 120p would be 1/240. So using the shutter "angle" function on higher end cameras automatically will keep your shutter speed at 180 degrees, regardless of what you set your framerate to. if you change it to 90 degrees, than it would ofcourse give the frame rate its corresponding 90 degree shutter "speed". Most higher end cinema cameras of course allow you to change from using "Shutter Angle" to "Shutter Speed" because they work differently - actually for the very reason you explained when talking about shutter angel and thats to remove flicker. Its quite unique that Sony in the FX30 and FX3 did it this way because we get no shutter "angle" option (which I would prefer so i dont have to change the shutter speed when I change frame rates - I dont use S&Q much, theres actually a quality loss for some reason), but instead only shutter "speed" adjustment which again, thought it was weird 1) neither cameras shoot true 24P, they shoot 23.97 but its cool you can use "variable shutter speed" under "anti-flicker to be at the perfect 180 shutter rule with that frame rate. But personally, i think Sony should update the firmware to 1) give us shutter "angle" option to switch back and forth. After all, this is a "cinema" camera as they market it that way - and also literally written on the camera 2) make their "24p" to be a TRUE "24p", and 3) remove the sensor crop on the FX30 when RAW output is enabled because the FX3 nor A7SIII or A7IV do this. Not sure why the FX30 does, but i think they should change that. that 17% crop sucks even more already being on super 35 to begin with and I use RAW religiously. Workflow is more work but with how I use my Cameras, I have that time in the post production process to do that (and I like the image better - given the 12 bit color)
