Fun fact about keeping your inventory neat. Pouches only weigh .4lb (.2kg). I keep a couple in my inventory. My scrolls go in one. My potions go in one. My arrows go in one... You get the idea. It keeps your inventory really neat and tidy, and holding 5 only weighs 2lbs (1kg).

Ooh I've got one to add! Some late-game enemies have the "Unstoppable" status effect, where they have a number of Unstoppable charges - one charge is burnt the next time they take a hit, reducing the damage from that hit to 1hp. Don't burn high level slots on an Unstoppable enemy! Instead, I found that if you hit them with Magic Missile, every dart triggers the effect, so you can burn down their charges in one turn. Super duper effective!

      @KraakenTowers 10 месяцев назад +16

Monk's Flurry of Blows does work here too, especially if you dipped Thief to get two bonus actions (that's 6 attacks) or if you use one of the pairs of gloves you can get from the Wyrm's Rock boss fight that adds force damage to unarmed strikes. A certain shape-changer went down in two turns because I ran my monk in, took down unstoppable, and then let Karlach have at it with her returning weapons that knock enemies prone.

Oh, I have one! If you’re fighting invisible enemies, but don't have the spell, any potions, or scrolls of See Invisibility, try selecting Jump and drag the circle around. Two characters cannot occupy the same space, and you'll find a spot you cannot jump to.
I have found that melee attacks have a hard time landing, but Arrows, Ray attacks, or Splash damage items will reveal your hiding foes.

I think many people don't realize how much loot, gold and XP you can get on the Nautiloid at the start of the game. It *may* necessitate playing on Explorer and/or savescumming temporarily, but not only can you kill Commander Zhalk and the Mindflayer (be sure you or the Mindflayer kill Zhalk, then kill the Mindflayer for 150XP instead of only 75), but the two Cambions who show up afterwards as well - all with a few turns left over to reach the transponder. The developers give you four handy Nautiloid Tanks that you can grab (one by Shadowheart's pod) and place. If you figure out where the Cambions dash to you can have the tanks right there for a quick firebolt and massive explosion. It's possible to drop one or both below half HP like this. Doing this allows you be level 3 before meeting Withers *or* fighting the Goblins at the gate. Not even remotely necessary, but still fun.

on tactician I usually kill zhalk and the flayer without needing to reload, never managed the cambions though. with fog you can cut off the cambion's and they'll never advance, and a few key spells like faerie fire or protection from evil and true strike can skew the dice way in your favor and let the flayer hit his mind blasts and avoid getting doubled.

Also to expand on the 'sending to camp' tip: I recommend picking up a bunch of chests/crates/bags/etc (preferably different looking ones to better recognize them) and send them to camp to use IN your traveling chest as a means to organize it up and find your stuff better, cause you can store things in them even while they're in the traveling chest. Some tips:
    - If you are playing cold/lightning wizard, make sure to carry a lot of water balloons and summon mage hand before a fight. Drop water balloon (can do that even it's not your turn) and have the mage hand throw it at your enemies to cause wet status. Your enemies will be vulnerable to cold/lightning spells aka taking doubled damage. You can do similar things for a fire wizard: let the mage hand throws grease bottles to your enemies then ignite them with fireball.
    - Due to its mobility, the mage hand is also a good supporter for rogues. Just move it close to an enemy and your rogue can use sneak attack without advantage requirement.
    - There is a hammer in act 1 allows you to cause 1-4 aoe thunder damage when jumping. Equip it on a monk, use Step of Wind (jumping requires no bonus action), with some buffs like longstrider, items like helm of haste to increase movement, you can jump like 10+ times per turn, dealing 10~40 aoe thunder dmg to your enemies. You can double the damage by having another character equipping Phalar Aluve and using Shriek. Deal even more damage by adding some Cleric level to get Guardian spirits. Later on you can find a pair of boots that prones your enemies when jumping.

If dont want to have Gale in your party, your party members can still enjoy the benefits of longstrider while Gale sits in camp. Plus you can freely switch out party members without having to recast it for the entire day.
If you get Halsin in your party, then you can have either him or Gale cast it on the party, stay in camp, and take the other in your party, allowing the other to prepare a different spell and not have Longstrider take up a precious prepared spell spot.

Each day in Camp Tav starts with a cleric hireling with the ritual caster feat to take a stroll through the camp and cast longstrider on everyone, warding bond, poison resistance, freedom of movement on the main party, and then there's some puzzling required to get the main group together to hit everyone with a maximum upcast aid. my tip for inventory management: in the game you come across different types of pouches/bags/sacks/backpacks. i like to use one of these each for my oils, elixers, scrolls, and potions, arrows, etc... so that way when i want to use a potion i open up that pouch and boom, there all of them are instead of having them clutter up my inv slots. towards the end game these can start to get pretty heavy so instead of keeping 9 of the same potion in the pouch i will send 7 of them back to camp or just sell them if i know i wont ever end up using them.

      @AresFordwin 10 месяцев назад +4

In my current playthrough I've made a goal to collect every single pouch/backpack. I now have a bag full of bags in my camp, I feel like home.
An important note about using extra containers, though, is that if you move an item from one character straight to another's pouch, that item won't be added to your hotbar (regardless of your settings), and potentially won't appear as an option to throw/shoot either. Also, a potential bug: if you ever decide to sell a bag full of items - let's say you sell it for 500g - then leave and later return to buy your bag back for whatever reason, you'll end up paying more than 500g for an empty bag.

With regard to scrolls-by late game, it starts to become more economical just to use scrolls pretty much all the time in combat rather than waste spell slots, thus saving your spell slots for Reactions and specific instances when you don't have the right scroll for a particular spell. This becomes even more true when you have a Sorcerer that can use those spell slots on Metamagic.
You can only cast high-level spells like, say, Disintegrate a couple times maybe if you're relying on spell slots, but if you're using scrolls, you can cast Disintegrate as many times as you have scrolls, especially potent if Hasted (obviously). You'll obviously still want your casters' high Spell Save DC, so it's still better to have casters use scrolls.

Item overload was the worst thing about BG2 as well.
Edit : If Larian could make pouches name-able so we can know at a glance what they contained - now that would literally be a game changer. Plus if an item is still quest relevant it should be identifiable - i got sick of all the notes and letters and had sold them all and had to go back to the Sorcerous Sundries to buy one back to finish a quest. Ended up buying them all back just in case lol.
Also if something quest relevant like a book or note is stored in travelers chest if its recognized it in inventory that would be helpful too solving a lot with the overload.
Ps Just got Minsc in the party - looks exactly like my real life friend Doug. Freaky.
Lastly a video on some creative way to do the fireworks quest and maybe oskars poltergeist would be cool .Those 2 were awfully designed quests environments. Cheers.

Agreed, quest items I wish they would highlight or note, as so many other games have done. I get that they don't want to make it a hold your hand game, for example no in game quest markers on NPC's but to miss a quest because an item you didn't realize was quest related kinda sucks. Also scrolls should have the level on them. in the Alchemy screen there is no tooltip to what the potions do, seems like a huge oversight. All of this is as of patch #5 that I am currently playing on.

About the alchemy stuff, I would recommend to simply mix your most important potions/elixirs first, so their ingredients will not be used up by less important products. I know, that this route is not completely without error either, but I would say it should work most of the time. As much I see it, when you for example have multiple ashes available, the system seems to choose the ones with the highest number. Also it is of course better to mix individually and always have a look on ingredients on every single batch instead of mixing all available products of one sort at once, so avoiding using up ingredients you don"t want to use for that product.

Quantity of items was and is never a problem with BG3 inventory. What actually is a problem is that the inventory is badly programmed: icons disappear after using an action, if it's not gone completely the game just switches places of action/cantrip icons willy nilly. In group-inventory the auto-scroll is super-aggressive and makes you drop icons in some random slot rather than the one you planned it to drop. The inventory-view of character and the whole group has different cols/rows, so you never see the same icon in the same spot. And the method to stow everything away in containers has you typing like mad in the search box which (IMO) breaks immersion. Given how brilliant BG3 is in almost every other aspect, the inventory must have been programmed by Shar herself, coz it's really a pain :)

If you get the noblestock and give it to the merchant, you can buy two noblestocks from her for 160 gp or less in Act 3 per log rest or any manipulation. These are a heal all/cure all items so if one is down 100 hp, poisoned, blinded and cursed, just one dose will cure all of that.
You can play Act 1 out of any order, because some tasks are easier than others which still award experience points. Just going to an area may award experience points. If you purposely made a weak party or are having trouble in general, this is a good way to level up enough to finally defeat the enemies.
Hit the alt key for PC users and move the cursor around other areas to find stuff in areas. The alt key is suppose to highlight everything you can pick up, but it sometimes doesn't work. Hovering over an object will highlight if you can pick it up.

It's cheesy, but multiclassing into wizard acts unexpectedly. In traditional d&d, you can only add spells to your spellbook based on your wizard level. But in bg3, you can add any wizard spell to your book that you have spell slots for. You are of course, limited tk preparing your wizard level+int bonus, but a lvl 10 cleric/1 wizard can add any 1st-6th level scroll to their book. And if you pick up the warped headband of intellect, you can dump int as your character build but maintain a 17 for 4 total wizard spells prepped at all times.

I almost save-scummed when in Act 1 I was fighting the Shadow Druids. Instead I have a hilarious story of "Muscle Wizard casts Punch in Face."
Olodon succeeded her save against Gale's spell, which left her with just ONE hp remaining (super frustrating in any situation). She would have her turn before anyone else in the party could do anything about her, and I did not want to leave Gale open to a counterattack.
I went into Gale's bonus actions to see what options I had. This is when I saw Flurry of Blows and remembered that I had multi-classed Gale into Monk to grab the unarmored bonuses at levels 1 & 2 (I'm using a Level 20 mod, so a couple levels in a second class is a little less impactful on overall power).
He had a 50% chance with each of the two strikes to hit, and I just had an "F it" moment. I sent the Wizard Monk in.
Olodon fell to a punch from GALE. The shame of falling to a punch from a wizard...
It took me nearly a half hour to finish the fight after that cause I was laughing so hard I had to walk away from my computer.

And the most frustrating thing about right-click is that it doesn't stop characters who're climbing vines, et al. GRRRRRRRRR...
Now... as for unarmoured defence... You sort of mention this, but it's worth saying explicitly. Never be scared to put armour on your barbarian. Very often going unarmoured is a mistake. It depends on a whole slew of factors, like your build, what armour and spells you have available etc. etc. But some players think barbies should always stay unarmourmed and that's a mistake.
And the most useful reason imnsho to use a disguise is well documented, but I'll say it: for Speak with the Dead. Characters you've killed won't talk to you, but if you disguise yourself you can get past this restriction.

Thinking outside the box is the real deal. Stack crates to get "high ground" bonus or simply to reach inaccessible locations. Grab barrels in inventory to throw them later. Throw a torch into oil instead of those nice fire arrows. Enlarge your ally or reduce your enemy to get advantage in athletics. Disguise as halfling and then shrink yourself further to fit into a tiny hole. Also, throwing bottles is way better then using T1 spell slots for water or oil creation. Always check what you can brake. Statues, bridges, etc. Also, sometimes you may smash a chest instead of opening it. Or pick it up in inv to send to rogue or to deal with it later. Just to update something about the Slayer form. You can finish Moonrise AND kill Ketheric so you don't lose Dammon since he will have already left for Baulder's Gate by that point. This is how I did my Dark Urge run so I didn't lose out on those very nice items Dammon sells in Act 3, but still got the Slayer form.
After taking out Ketheric and meeting everyone back in Moonrise send out all your party members back to camp, then murder Isobel where she stands, but be quick because this WILL piss off a lot of people.... mainly Dame Aylin, but it can be done. Once Isobel is down you can run away ASAP heading towards the Moonrise Waypoint and maybe beyond. Using Hold Person on key players can help, but just keep disengaging and running away. Once you are out of combat you can head back to camp for a long rest to finish the day. In the next Long rest (Usually when you first reach Wyrm's Crossing) is when Sceleritas Fel will arrive and congratulate you on you unspeakable deed and gift you the Slayer form.
Oh, on a side note. Dame Aylin, Jaheira, and Halsin were all in my camp and acted as if nothing happened for the beginning of act 3.

I did this as well, but I sent Isobel and Aylin back to my camp first and then killed Isobel in a fog cloud. No one noticed and Aylin was only a little pissed and about 600g fixed that 😅

Thank you so much for this video! I've only just bought the game, but I played on my brother's account for a while, and I'm one of those people still in Act 1. I just can't believe how vast, intricate, and versatile this game is and I'm still discovering things I can actually do in the game which in other games are not possible. I'm also still figuring out the combat system, as it's slightly different from the tabletop game I'm used to playing (Pathfinder), so I'm always grateful for every little tidbit of advice and information other people share online.
All this to say thank you once again for putting together this video for people like me, who have fallen in love with this game and still trying to figure things out in the first play through. I like the way you've put together the video so smoothly, especially with the slider tags in the video. I think you're the only RUclipsr I've subscribed to after only watching 1 of your videos, haha! Thank you again for your hard work and dedication to such a great game, and helping people like me get more comfortable in it!

If you want an easier time managing your inventory pick up the addition backpacks and pouches andd store your items in there equipement/poisons/potions/elixirs and so on also remember you can shift click on multiple item to send to camp at once instead of doing all 1 by 1

For Longstrider, you don't actually need them in the party. I just add Halsin to my party, cast all the buffs like Longstrider, Freedom of Movement, Darkvision if needed, Heroes Feast.... Then I drop him from the party, take all my buffs and go about my day! The only time this won't work is in the final battle. (very minor spoiler) When you get temporarily whisked to the Astral Plane, somewhere around there all your buffs fall off and you have no chance to go back to camp to reapply before endgame. So be aware!

I like your take on it, which is the organic one i think many of us have. I see many talking about ''dont make wrong decision''. which... there is no wrong decision. It's the decisions and way you want the story to go. With the tools and mechanics given to us, in the world presented to us, it's really up to you how you want to solve problems. The game really awards ppl who can take the time and immerse themselves, learn spells etc, or at least recognise a situation where this and that would be helpful or have the best effect, or solve the whole issue at hand.
So i totally agree. If you get something ''wrong'' - meaning not as YOU wanted it, reload. I think really in this game, reloading is NOT wrong at all. It's what you should, in a Role play aspect, to get the story you want, or if you just want to see a certain little Gnome flying, haha. So best tip, is really. Quicksave, check it out, don't like it, then reload. Don't care about all the people talking about the ''best'' whatever. In time anyway, you will be able to see everything, if that's your wish.

    Best tip of all:
Mod your game on subsequent playthroughs!
Use party limit begone and tactician++ to scale the difficulty with your ridiculous party size (theoretical max of 52 ish if you include summons)
The sheer amount of interactions between every different character is incredible. Did y’all know Minthara talks to Lae’zel about her home in the underdark and how Lae’zel might like it there?
It somehow makes the game feel so much more alive when your companions are constantly talking to each other.

Cool to know about the ranged weapons setting off levers, I had been using the mage hand cantrip for that particular part shown.
Would be remiss to mention that when dealing with miniaturized giant space hamsters it's best to wear some form of eye protection as a safety precaution.

💥NOTIFICATION SQUAD:💥 Here's another bonus tip for you, if you THROW Potions (requires an Action, not a Bonus Action) you can hit multiple targets at once! 🥳 This is great for using a BIG healing Potion to heal multiple clumped up members of your party with 1 Potion!! ✨ Have you got any more tips you'd love to share with us?

You can drop it between them and use a bonus action attack to smash it for the same effect. You do have to be within a couple of feet.
Oh! And if a character has guidance in multiplayer, the guidance ability only comes up for the one in the dialogue *IF* they are controlling that character. The other person needs to be out of the convo to cast it, but if you clicked to listen in, you'll have to drop out to do it. Then rejoin the convo to see how it went! When playing with my spouse one of us takes the Harper's necklace from Act 1 to have guidance if we know we're going to need it and aren't together for some reason (like a convo started and our druid is dead).

TIP: I horde explosive barrels, oil barrels, gunpowder, and whatever barrel I want--I keep them with Karlach cuz she's my strong girl. But the cool thing is it's "free" to exchange among the party. So if you wanna set the field with your rogue, and your other party members are closer to areas you need the explodey barrels to be, move the barrels in your inventory instead of throwing them or moving them around the environment until you make it to your desired location. Easy day! Big boom!

Another benefit to a potion of speed over haste is that you can hit multiple allies by throwing it at the ground, which you'd have to upcast haste to do.

  • @TheDrsalvation

I used shield bash as an automatic reaction, which was nice at first, but there's also just the fact that once you use a reaction, it's gone... so when I had a heavy enemy attack me, my bash reaction was gone trying to bash an enemy that had no effect on, and then other enemies were free to run past me. So even for basic stuff like shield bash or opportunity attacks, there's always going to be a reason to ask.
As for using ranged attacks to activate levers, to be fair, I thought about that, but immediately stopped trying WITHIN BG3, I don't blame other games for forcing me to think inside the box. There's a prison escape route (or in my case, a hidden entrance with a downed gnome and a few goblins). There are some switches that toggle traps, and there's one particular rock you can jump onto but it triggers a couple of statues. Our first attempt was to shoot the button and see if we could toggle it from afar, and we couldn't, there was no effect.
This alone was enough for us to keep playing without ever trying to shoot levers. So I get where you're coming from, but I wouldn't blame other games, and strictly blame BG3 lmao.

About the "Guidance" cantrip, there is a necklace in the first act that grants the "guidance" cantrip to anyone wearing it. If you follow the path west from the druid encampment, just SW of where the gates are, you'll find a ledge to climb up on your left to go up to a lookout. Search the corpse and boxes there and you'll find the necklace.
