  • After causing major destruction in Granada, Beryl was roaring by Jamaica on Wednesday as a Category 4 hurricane. Ahead of its arrival, Jamaica's prime minister issued a disaster zone declaration as thousands evacuated flood-prone areas. Tom Hanson has the latest.

    Hurricane 🌀 Beryl kicked our butts pretty good here in Jamaica 🇯🇲
    But we survived and will rebuild our country

      Nothing much happens at my side. I'm close to Red Hills, right under the hills ... To be honest it's like it was not even a storm

    I cant speak for the rest of the island but I live near Kingston and there really isnt much damage. Water is still running and power did cut earlier around noon however it came back and hasn't gone since.

      We in Bamboo St Ann remain without power since 3 pm.

      Good to hear there isn't much damage and you guys have power at that area. When Irma hit us in 2017 they manage to cut us off as soon as the wind start to pick up. Praying for the entire island of Jamaica.🙏 God bless you all. Stay safe.

      Kingston is not Jamaica. The projections show South Coast. South St.Elizabeth and Manchester got battered . Lots of damage.

    My country is vast and beautiful and I hate that the media, especially the international stations, always highlight the worst of the worst parts of Jamaica. Which is a tiny fraction of the island. Unu fi tap dweet cho

    Over exaggerating the effect of the hurricane for views. It's so bad, but you are outside videoing and talking. Sir, we can see that this hurricane is not seriously affecting Jamaican.

    Hurricane 🌀 beryl hit us like he was looking for the curry goat 🐐 Extra spicy 🌶️ on my own, but we are alive 😂

    I believe it was bad in some areas , but overall ,it was forecasted to be alot more damage , but i think were coming out reasonably well as a country, not all of Jamaica got 140 moh winds, thats more like a 100 mph.

    There's still some rain in my part. No power, water from tank, but it wasn't as bad as I anticipated but I really want power to come back so I can submit some more scholarships before they're due.

    Trying not to think of the worse but my shorty just visited Jamaica to visit granny and now not responding I’m hoping it’s just bad service but I’m now on day 3 of sending good morning text and not getting that delivered/read icon makes me swallow my stomach🙏🏽💯

    Most of the western side of Jamaica🇯🇲 was badly damaged ,the rest of the island not much damages from reports I've heard, we are still having rain, some places still no light nor phone services, lives were lost because of carelessness and that is so sad😔 , it could have been worse, just giving thanks it wasn't. I am praying speedy recovery for all who has been affected. And please this is a disaster politics should not come into play,let's put hands and heart together 🙏🏾💕🙌🏾

    The media hype gets worse every year. 50 years ago it was hurricane season with rains and high winds. Now its deadly this and devasting that, the worst in 10,000 years, everything is destroyed, Millions of people are dead.
