Thank you so much for your cheerful disposition and detailed tour of this island! My son is on his way right now to camp at this location with a small group and your video comforted me with great insight into what he will be experiencing on this adventure! Thank you again and it’s so cool that you and your Dad explore together!
MY BACKYARD!!! You went past my boat on the way out & in AND I named the Island Packers boat you went out on "Island Adventure"! Great job on sharing this amazing place - you would love Santa Rosa & San Miguel as well!
California Through My Lens we take our boat - we have a 49' catamaran and have been out there more times than I can count! I do have one video to Prisoners on our boat. We tend to camp more now as we have a dog and she can't go ashore on the islands.
That is so awesome to be able to explore it that much! I had only been to Anacapa before this trip and now I can't wait to go explore the park more. So fun to have islands like this right off the coast of Cali.
You forgot to mention that there are no trash containers, so you have to take your trash back with you to dispose of it back on the main land. Very enjoyable and informative video. I would have liked to have seen a little more on the night time experience camping. Beautiful video though.
That is a great video. I would've liked to know what islands were in the background. Also, I would've like to know if some of those coastal overlooks had trails to the beach for snorkeling. Great video. I'd like to see more islands (2 years later) Because of this great video, last year, my oldest daughter and I camped for 4 days, snorkeled, hiked and kayaked. We had so much fun. Thanks Josh
DUUUUUDE! THANK YOU! We go out on overnighter's fishing on the New Hustler Hooks Landing there and Cisco's jus south of there and we never ever knew this was possible We are doin this!!! NO DOUBT! Love it and yer channel!👊👍👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks for the video! We went to Santa Cruz Island and made a short piece too! I love seeing your views of it, especially the Smuggler's Cove hike, which we didn't get to do when we were there! Next time!
The anti-tick cream (tick repellant) is also something I recommend. Good video & a beautiful place. I adored the view from Isla Vista when attending grad school at UCSB.
Interesting update. I went to the Cate School in Carpinteria and took a weekend camping trip to Santa Cruz in 1961 or ‘62. Looking at the map, I think we camped in Potato Harbor. Kind of fits with the sailing directions which warn of westerly winds: our boat dragged its anchor in the night and we had to quickly get the captain out to it so that he could clear the rocks and stay outside in the Channel for the rest of the night.
This is a very helpful video. I was looking for info on what sort of things you can take with you on the ship to camp. I see you and your father brought a tupperware bin. My husband and I are thinking of 24 or 48 hour-camping as well. Thank you!
SquirmyFeet Explores ya the bin is really helpful to bring all your stuff in. It’s a little walk to the campsite from the boat so be prepared to carry it a little while but it’s def nice to have
I came looking for this specific island for a specific reason: to see if you would footage of the fox(es), and you did. Thank you. I LOVE those beautiful little creatures.
This is great man! I've scuba dived near Anacapa Island but now I want to camp on Santa Cruz. Although it's probably less windy in the Summer/Fall. Thanks for these videos from another enthusiastic traveling dude.
This was really helpful. But I was wondering where you stashed your gear while on the second day's hikes, or did you have to pack it with you. Thank you
We packed everything up by 11 when the new campers came in and we just stored it in the box near one of the picnic tables while we wandered around and waited for the boat.
Haha! I've seen squirrels bigger than those foxes! Great job on the video, very informative! Did you guys experience any ticks from the overgrown trails?
The island Fox as they are named is a species of Fox unique to the Channel Islands. 6 out of 8 islands have populations and each island has a unique sub species. They only get about house cat size. Apparently they are descendent from the grey foxes on the mainland but they have been isolated for around 16-20,000 years since the last ice age ended. Pretty cool 😎
Got to work on Santa Cruz 25 years ago as a hunting guide. Back then in 79 there was 1000's of Marino Sheep and 1000's of pigs to hunt. It was so incredible to live out there flying back and forth, Dr Staunton still I owned most of the island. He finally gave it to "Nature Conservative " and they rid the island of the sheep and pigs killing them and leaving them to Rot where they fell. There was Chumash Indian skeletons all over the island and we always left them alone, lots of Island Foxes also, Santa Cruz has some critters only found on that Island and plants also. Even a Iron Wood Grove, how did that get there?
Great video, thanks! Wondering what time of year you went? We're going in a few weeks (mid October) from what I read it's 60's during the day and 50's at night?
This was fantastic - thank you and very informative. When you did your day hike once you had checked out of your campsite, did you carry everything with you that was in the plastic box, or did you leave that somewhere so you could hike with a lighter pack?
Josh, thank you for the video. How did you deal with the foxes at night? Do they have food containers/boxes at the camp? Please keep the good work. Great idea to feature your dad.
Great video. I am planning a trip to the Island with a group of friends. What would be the best time of the year to go, when it's green and climate not too hot?
Question, what did you do with your gear after you checked out and before your boat came? I want to take a 4pm boat back, but don't want to have to carry all my gear while hiking from 11 to 4.
Great video. I was looking at Google Earth and it looks like there is a small community in the middle of island called Skunk Point. Do you know what that is? It looks like it might be some retreat or private resort.
I should have been clearer, filming...you did a good equipment review at the end of your video. BTW I just posted a time lapse video on my hike on Anacapa Island (right to the East of Santa Cruz) that I took there last Wednesday. Your right on, it's a magical place.
Thank you so much for your cheerful disposition and detailed tour of this island! My son is on his way right now to camp at this location with a small group and your video comforted me with great insight into what he will be experiencing on this adventure! Thank you again and it’s so cool that you and your Dad explore together!
I remember hiking there! The foxes were so friendly
Yea, they are always wandering around looking for food
I love those foxes~ they are so cute!
MY BACKYARD!!! You went past my boat on the way out & in AND I named the Island Packers boat you went out on "Island Adventure"! Great job on sharing this amazing place - you would love Santa Rosa & San Miguel as well!
Thats so awesome, do you boat out to the island or is it too far? I def want to check out the other islands for sure!
California Through My Lens we take our boat - we have a 49' catamaran and have been out there more times than I can count! I do have one video to Prisoners on our boat. We tend to camp more now as we have a dog and she can't go ashore on the islands.

That is a good reminder about the trash. Also, thanks for the suggestion, I will look to add that in next time!
i was thinking the same thing... i was hoping some clips about the nightlife
Including tp?
@@Sergiop4x There are outhouse bathrooms there. You can get rid of tp there, but yeah, all other trash, you have to take with you.
Thanks for sharing! I never even heard about the channel islands before.
This is the best video I've seen for Santa Cruz Island. Thanks for sharing, the tips and campsite recommendations are SUPER useful
Again, wonderful video! Feel much more prepared after your clear narration and instruction. Thanks!

Hi Josh, your videos were a great help to our scout troop in planning our trip. We went sea kayaking in sea caves. It was fantastic.
Luv it! California Dreamin for Sure!

No problem, glad it helped you learn more about the area!
Can’t wait to go there
Great video, thank you
Watching. Again. Good stuff guys. Live right there(well, 12 miles off my harbor) and love it everyday. There's a reason it's a National Park. Thx.
Great video. Because it was cold & you saw whales, I’d really like to know what month of the year this was. Thanks
Thanks for the detailed video.

Good video. Curious, what time of the year did you go?
In a separate video he said May. Looks like May 18.

@@californiathroughmylens so its better to bring a a big plastic container to keep food, stuff etc away from the fox?
WOW YOU ARE AWESOME THANK YOU!!!! 😊😊😊
Thanks, glad you liked the video!
OMG THE ISLAND FOX :D
Haha! I've seen squirrels bigger than those foxes! Great job on the video, very informative! Did you guys experience any ticks from the overgrown trails?
We saw one on a sock but I didn't see any others after that.

Wow great video, your cinematic logo swirl and text animation is on point, what software are you using to create it?

Hi I really enjoy your page ☺ Keep it up!
I actually taped that soundtrack and I listen to it all the time now
Wow
Nice and informative video, what month would be ideal to go? Are there rattle snakes or predators on the island?
Music satisfying
How far is this from Los Angeles? I truly enjoyed your video..thank you so much ❤️☺️
Going there next month! Do you leave your camp up as you hike around? Any worries about theft by people or animals?
I recommend hand pruners, hand shovel and a whisk broom.
Great video, thanks! Wondering what time of year you went? We're going in a few weeks (mid October) from what I read it's 60's during the day and 50's at night?

Josh, thank you for the video. How did you deal with the foxes at night? Do they have food containers/boxes at the camp? Please keep the good work. Great idea to feature your dad.
Yep, they have food containers at the campgrounds that you lock your food in to keep the foxes away
wow..thanks for the quick response.
Great video. I am planning a trip to the Island with a group of friends. What would be the best time of the year to go, when it's green and climate not too hot?
I think the spring or fall are usually the best times, spring there is often wildflowers too but it depends on the year.
Thanks for the great info. I intentionally avoid trails. Any issues/restrictions about that?
Question, what did you do with your gear after you checked out and before your boat came? I want to take a 4pm boat back, but don't want to have to carry all my gear while hiking from 11 to 4.
Great video. I was looking at Google Earth and it looks like there is a small community in the middle of island called Skunk Point. Do you know what that is? It looks like it might be some retreat or private resort.
Can you make a fire in designated areas? Are there any fire pits or are they completely off limits? How do you cook while camping? Thanks
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Really liked your video. Can you talk about your equipment that you used??
Equipment for filming or for backpacking?
I should have been clearer, filming...you did a good equipment review at the end of your video. BTW I just posted a time lapse video on my hike on Anacapa Island (right to the East of Santa Cruz) that I took there last Wednesday. Your right on, it's a magical place.
For this video, I shot it all with a Canon 70d and a wide angle lens. I have since moved to the Sony a6500 with a 10-18 wide angle though.
Thanks, will look forward to your next adventure!
I clicked thinking it was the Channel Islands off the coast of England near France but nonetheless awesome video
Any field mice?? Is your dad’s name “Silent Bob”? LOL
Can’t forget to bring the PayDay!
