    Written when he was 17, "Waterfall" is like an old friend to Jon. It
    got him the cutest girl in his high school, made him the life of many
    parties, and has been a big hit with pianists and piano teachers
    alike. Jon says that in high school it was proof that chicks dig even
    ugly guys with skills.
    This tune has significant meaning to Jon and all of us at ThePianoGuys because It played a pivotal role in convincing Jon to commit to a full-time career as a pianist. An earlier video of Waterfall was done as a pre-TPG experiment. This version is ThePianoGuys' official video release.

    I can almost play this fast, with maybe like 70% accuracy, and I've been learning since May... Man I feel slow. I honestly don't know to whom it will matter, but this song has come to mean a ton to me. I participated as an actor in my highs school's drama club for my last two years, having finished Senior year in June, and our club instructor is a wonderful, wonderful man. In technicalities, he's an excellent teacher and made each and every one of us an actor ten times better than when we started out. And he is unfailingly kind and so much fun. He's done a lot for each of us in our personal lives, too, and has had a particularly profound affect on me. Sometime last year, he came across me practicing on the performance piano in the school's auditorium, which I did every morning, and told me that I had a lot of talent, that he was impressed. Maybe a month later, I was practicing on the piano between our two rehearsals for one day and he called me over. He showed me this song and said "I want you to learn this. Learn it and play it for me before you graduate and I retire next month." So I did. Didn't have it mastered, but I had memorized and learned well enough for the time. So I played it at our school's talent show and he came out of the audience with tears in his eyes. I have never been so determined to learn anything on the piano as much as this song, never been so proud of myself for making another proud of me, so this song has a lot of meaning for me. And it's really beautiful besides. I play it every single day I have access to a practice piano on campus In college, and hope I will never forget it. Thanks, Jon Schmidt.

    Brings me back to the days in 2006 while on my mission (for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). I was with a missionary companion at one point who is also incredibly musically talented. He sings opera (is a true basso), and plays the piano and drum set.
    When we had down time, he would play the piano. This was one of the pieces he would regularly play, and it was a joy.
    I listened to a lot of Jon Schmidt's solo albums back then, and Walk in the Woods was one of em (the album upon which this piece is included). I believe it was track 4 on the album. Or was it the last track? It's been so long!
    Anyway, great video. Lots of pleasant nostalgia! Thanks for sharing.

    • @jiangentile5482
      @jiangentile5482 7 лет назад +4

      Menno Kuipers Like you could do better. Don't be a condescending ass and just praise the man for even playing a piano. So what if it took Jon 10 years to master a song? is he then also not good? So before you go telling someone else they aren't good, how about you try it yourself. Playing the piano isn't as easy. It takes time and what you put into it is what you get out. the man put 10years into it and now he can play it. That itself is an accomplishment worth noting. I think i made my point.

    • @mennokuipers5709
      @mennokuipers5709 7 лет назад +3

      JianTheMan JTXC if it took jon 10 years to master a piece then he would not be one of the piano guys. And it doens't take me 10 years to even master a very difficult piece. 10 years is a VERY LONG TIME. if it takes you that long you're either not good ,don't spend much time playing, or you don't take it very seriously.

    • @jiangentile5482
      @jiangentile5482 7 лет назад +3

      Menno Kuipers You don't know that? Clearly jon plays for fun and that's how it is meant to be. You're criticizing another dudes uncle for taking a long while to play a piece. So what if it takes him long. Serious or not give the man credit for even playing. Anyone who takes the time to learn a song deserves credit. Clearly jon didn't take 10 years to learn a piece but how would you know that? You don't! So before you CRITICIZE another man get your facts straight and have a little morality. Don't bother replying becuase you're just going to try and make it sound as if you are right because clearly in this situation, you aren't and so have some balls and accept that the man deserves his credit.

    • @mcna220
      @mcna220 7 лет назад +5

      Menno Kuipers Well, keep in mind that my uncle has a full time job, and family of 5 to care for and various other priorities so finding time to practice and learn can be difficult. I am sure many people with more time on their hands or different priorities could learn it much quicker:)

    After seeing John perform in 1996 (he did a back flip off the piano bench!), I learned to play this song and it has been a joy to me-and a crowd pleaser!-ever since. The sheet music book this song is in is the funnest, most accessible piano book I have come across in over two decades! I have gifted it to young pianists for years. Many of the songs sound advanced but feel early intermediate and are so fun to play! I’m overjoyed to see John’s incredible talent spread all over the world through the Piano Guys. Thank you. 🙏

    Wow I used to think this song was hard when I was little and always wanted to play it. And I forgot about this song for a while and just remembered it and so I thought I would look over it. And it was so easy to sight read! I hadn’t even realized how much better I have gotten at piano until now. Like the key is easy and the rhythm is pretty simple. But I could never imagine writing this amazing piece!

    I have 13 years old and when I show this kind of songs to my friends they're like "Ugh thats Classic music how do you enjoy it? Pop is way better!" Everyone has the right to have their opinion but this is a beautiful song and it should show to people that just because it hasn't anyone singing or there is only piano it isn't bad! This is not my favouriye style of music but every style is good so:
    People out there who say Classic music is crap, just stop, listen and enjoy.

      Classical music is amazing! The Piano Guys are my favorite musicians ever, and Jon is my favorite pianist! Im so glad that I can listen to these videos and it will never be inappropriate or dirty in any way. The only time I like pop music is when they do a cover on it! I listen to them every day after school and it makes my day better!
