Great video Lewis, good to publicise this as its a great little first mobile radio for any new licencee - it was my first rig in the shack however it now lives in the car. One thing I'd point out however is it isn't a dual VFO as you mentioned. Its dual watch, in that it'll monitor two channels/frequencies at once but definitely only one VFO so if there's a signal on both channels you won't get two lots of audio. Also worth mentioning is they get very hot so the popular 12v PC fan mod is a must if you're going to be chatting away for any length of time.
Having watched a power output test on this radio, (UHF 13w and VHF 12w) by the time coax loss calculations are made along with antenna effect, Foundation holders would very likely be able to use MED power without serious concern. A great little radio and at around £100, really great value for money.
Excellent review Lewis. Based on your review, I bought one myself and its great. Unlike the last Chinese radio I had, there is no intermodulation and breakthrough from the PMR bands even when connected to my base colinear and adjacent channel rejection is excellent. Every bit as good as my Yaesu radio at a quarter of the price!
Superb video, I love the radio, its a re-badged Anytone AT-778UV I am surprised Anytone licenced it already, it runs very warm on transmit, great value, mics suffer from low audio a bit as they often ship out of alignment, I made a video on how to fix it on my channel.
If you use the 15 watt setting by the time it gets to the antenna you'll have lost a few Watts plus I can't see it making a true 15, also I can't see ofcom kicking your door in to arrest you..
As a foundation student I found the description impossible to follow with far too many abbreviations delivered at speed lol but the transmission/receive demo was excellent. Thanks
Evening Lewis, ive got mine coming tomorrow same model as your,s so im going to test the range on this new Ham antenna its a mobile aerial Lewis bought it from amazon uk. you may have seen it its black and orange twin antenna,s regards David
Hi Lewis, I have just gained my Foundation, now M7BVK. I have just purchased the RT95, like you I was a little surprised by th size of it as you where. I have a very basic knowledge of radios etc. And would welcome some advice, firstly a power unit for it, I have a man cave in my garden with mains electricity. Any recommendations on a PSU. Also antenna, again any recommendations? I have seen on here someone using a car magmount with a metal base , no sure what you think of this? Any help or advise from you or your subscribers would be gratefully appreciated. Kind regards Pete M7BVK
anyone know the amp draw when not transmitting. Wanna program it in the house and get familiar before it goes in the car. My power supply is only 2 amp
I'm going a bit off topic here but I've been looking for days and am struggling to get the answer. I would like a radio, a bit like what taxi drivers use and the one in thjsnvid, which has a "private" signal. Is that even a thing? I know theres no such thing as privacy on radio, due to scanners etc. I was thinking VHF, then a friend said not to bother and go with low band. I've checked some forums and people keep saying get a CB but I want to communicate further than CB allows. Any help or links to correct information, would be great. Thanks.
Just recieved the anytone at-778uv and set up a few repeaters and calling channels. So basically you set repeaters as narrow and simplex 2m/70cms as wide?
Hi coukd you help me out please i am thinking of buying this radio to put in a hgv for work just to talk to lads in yards that i go to collect or take loads into or out of the radios our uards ise are motorola dp1400 would the retevis rt95 be able to connect to them ? Thanks in advance i have not got a clue about radios ha
I hope its better quality than the AnyTone AT-778 UV, ment to be same inside but my Anytone is junk im sorry to say but you get what you pay for .Just spend the extra pounds if you can afford it and buy a Yeasu or Icom.
Also sold as
• CRT Micron-UV
• Retevis RT-95
• AnyTone AT-778 UV
• Midland DBR-2500
• Yedro YC-M04VUS
All supported by CHIRP
Thanks for the info ✌
If you use it on full power and tilt it a bit, as well as being a
fantastic little radio, it doubles as a mini George Formby grill.
😂😂👍🏻👍🏻

Hey im thinking of buying one how has it held up in the past months?
@@tadejstanic8891 Use it in the car and at home and still working just fine. Brilliant radio for the price.
@@robredridge1703oh great thanks for the info!!
I usually find the knob that changes the frequency is sitting in a chair in front of the radio. Nice little radio though, I like.

Great review as always Lewis. I’ve had the RT95 for a year or so and found it to be a fantastic radio. Can’t go wrong with Retevis though. 73 G4TEW
Great video, years ago there was just heatsink on earlier transceivers , ie yaesu ft211rh for example. 73s mark g8rde
I like everything about this radio (by any name) but the mic hook. Can that be changed to a traditional button?
I had the AnyTone version... Are you sure it has a 10w setting? I thought it was 5/15/25w which is annoying for foundation licence holders in the UK

@@Team-fabulous Very true. Think mine was kicking out 13.6 ish
Nice review. The same chassis is often sold under various names, a common practice which has taken place for many, many years.
Nice video Lewis - looks good 👍👏👏

I got my foundation ticket in April and I agree, I find a lot of the chat a bit technical for me. But that's my ignorance
Could anyone tell me please, what would be an acceptable power supply I would need to use this indoors?
The manual recommends 12A
Yeah but it only has a 10a fuse though, 13.8v 10a would be fine?

Does this rt95 have dual wait , like both uhf and vhf at the same time , ( like uv5r )
Sadly mine just died after just under a year. Reporting DC High despite the supply being a rock solid 13.8

Do you or did you get any reports of low audio ?
Mine gets hot, even on 5 watt. Is that normal ?
After prolonged use it’ll be warm. It shouldn’t be hot though. That’s a sign of bad swr

Can it be opened up for 446 PMR use?
