I was just starting to follow football in '66 and what a way to be introduced to it! That was our last fall in South Bend before moving to New Jersey in the spring of 1967. I still rate the 1966 squad as Ara's best team at ND. I became a huge Nick Eddy fan, so much so that I'm still waiting for the Hamme's Bookstore to offer a #47 football jersey!

I have to say my favorite memories are those Terry Hanratty passes to Jim Seymour. I always wondered afterwards whatever happened to Jim Seymour while I was watching the early Dallas Cowboys back in the amazing Tom Landry days.

Just think. The Beatles released Revolver the same year as this!
What a time to be alive!!!

Not to mention ND went for it on fourth down on that final possession from their own 39.

Notre Dame could have been undefeated from 1965-1967. They bypassed Heisman trophy winner Gary Beban for Hanratty. I was in the Sequoia High School library when Beban told me that Notre Dame turned him down because he was a tailback in a single wing offense instead of a pro-style quarterback where he ran as well as passed.

What championship team plays for a TIE, especially when there’s a great undefeated, untied team out there?

Exactly......that's why I always preferred pro football over college...the title is settled on the field, not by politics off the field ...

exactly. gutless football. parseghian did the exact same thing 3 years later at HOME vs USC.

@@garudain77 Hard to believe people are still saying that drivel. It was MS that played for a tie. They punted on fourth down near midfield with less than three minutes to play. ND was running plays and gaining yards going for a field goal when they had a bad major loss that really set them back. Coley O'Brien had to play basically the whole game. He was a diabetic who rarely played and was sick at halftime and threw up. He brought them back from a 10-0 deficit on the road against the second best defense in the country. If Hanratty doesn't get hurt (by being unnecessarily driven into the ground separating his shoulder) everybody knows ND wins the game. MS knew they had to win the game, being ranked #2 and not being allowed to go to the Rose Bowl since they went the previous year. Rules were different then. MS couldn't beat a back up QB. Nick Eddy also missed the game and ND missed a very make able FG late in the game. A freak fumble after ND got an interception handed MS a FG. NDs all American center gets hurt early in the game and had to come out. Without all these bad breaks, ND wins easily.

Is there an episode about the USC series?
