Australian coastal waters are a haven for recreational boating activities.
As the waterways are shared by many types of vessel, both large and small, navigational hazards can arise.
Smaller boats may not be able to anticipate the path of a larger ship. And a larger ship cannot stop or change course suddenly.
This video explains some simple rules for recreational boaters to apply to avoid collisions.

Your comment is correct. In Australia we use the IALA System A in relation to buoyage. When entering port the port hand marker (red) should be passed on the vessels port (left) side.
The United States use the IALA System B which has differences in relation to buoyage. For further information refer to the Buoyage system page on the TSV website. (a link is provided in the video description).

Erroneous information for Americans. At the 5:19 mark the video states red/port light or bouys on the LEFT heading inland towards the harbor, and the these bouys are square on the top. This information is opposite of USCG Rules......Red Right Return, and Port markers are triangular or otherwise pointed.
