hi guy's great job as always .that's why your the hod carrier and i'm the plasterer lol ,i said that to a guy one time he gave me his opinion on something and i said that's why your pushing the barrow and i'm holding the hawk .when i heard you say it .it brought back memories made me smile .keep up the good work ,your looking healthy hope all is well ..
johnzo70 Hello Johnzo, that's my polite way of telling my brother Louuuuu, that when they paint and it does not match, they will call me back, I will then have to apply a bonding agent re-dash like I should have in the the first place, then prime and paint my failure to do what I knew to be necessary in the first place, Louuuu hods, I finish as I'm responsible for texture matching. Best wishes, kirk and Jason giordano
Good stuff Kirk. You don't ramble as much as you share what you've learned over the years. My house is 21 yrs old stucco with bands. The stucco contractor applied the bands with the wrong fasteners causing nails to pop all around the house. I have a bucket of stucco that I can use to fix them. Your videos are helping a lot. Thanks!
Clyde Perrine Morning Clyde, I have seen this many times. I will usually apply the Polybond then sink a sixteen penny nail in so that the head is slightly below the foam, then cover the nail head with the same Polybond that I used to set the molds. If you don't want to purchase a bag of Polybond for a handful of mud, I would recommend you tap these heads in and cover with a really good caulking like Sikaflex if they are smooth, use Mor-Flex if the molds are sandy. Best wishes, Kirk Giordano
Kirk & Jason Giordanos DIY plastering and stucco tips Thanks for the tip. I forgot to mention that the reason the nails are popping out of the stucco bands is they are rusting. I repaired a couple of the first ones to pop a few years ago. I dug them out and patched the hole. I think there are about 10 more that need attention plus a 6 ft verticle crack (water leak got to wood frame. It has been fixed). Is there enough here to warrant a contractors time? How much would it cost? By-the-way I live in North Florida.
Hi Clyde, you can dig them out and patch or tap them in and patch. If it were me I would tap them in, this way they reinforced the grip of keeping the molds adhered, plus thss won't create a hole in the wall, which can allow water intrusion. Best wishes, Kirk Giordano
I wouldn't mind if you guys set the camera on a tripod and just record you guys putting on a scratch and a brown. Love watching you guys apply the stuff, you do it with a lot of skill and it's cool to watch.
Hi Kieran Huscroft, no worries, we try and keep them short, but still try and give an idea of what we're doing, will show more, Best wishes, kirk Giordano

the reason we cant do one coat render in the UK is its mostly to cold or raining ,we haven't got the sun like you guys ..great videos boys keep the great work up
That's it! I need a dash brush. I guess my house was tex-coated originally, and I haven't been able to match it. But, what you're doing looks exactly like my walls. Can you dash over dry, unpainted stucco? Do you have to wet it down first? Or do I need to get another thin coat of stucco and dash it while the coat is still wet? I guess I need to watch more videos.
Kirk, I was watching an English gent scratch wavy lines instead of horizontal lines. He said" it reduces the possibility of cracking". BTW, stop pickin on my man Lou!
Howdy Mike Dude never heard wavy lines had any benefits as this, the horizontal lines simply create a mechanical bond for the next coat to adhere better. My brother Luuuuu, loves it when I or anyone else talks crap to him, it actually gives him pleasure as his skin is thick like a rhinoceros. Vidal Martinez Hi Vidal, excellent question, I have filmed about 4 video's with explaining the necessities expansion joints, just type the word expansion joints and they should come up, if your interested in details. This is a residential home, it's not required here in California to install expansion joints or homes from the time this home was built, nor did it have one prior to the correction of the dry rot. Expansions joint are installed when there is no opening in a 10X10 foot section of wall, a window or door exempt this rule. Of course on commercial projects or new construction if it's on the prints, then we install them, many times they are not on the prints so I recommend them. On this home expansion joint would have distorted the old world charm that was part of this 1920 home. Lastly I have taken it upon myself before to add them only to have a homeowner demand they be removed as they distract from the originality of the home or appear to commercial. This home does not also have to have weep or drip screed installed as we are allowed to recreate the original design, there is a fine line between newer codes verses cosmetic. Best wishes, Kirk and Jason giordano’s plastering team
I'm a 4th generation plasterer, I take a lot of pride in this trade, but I have to ask about the luminite, doesn't that contribute to corrosion of the lath? Aditittionaly, why are you guys using chicken wire as opposed to self furring lath? I'm from minnesota, and that's code here.
Howdy Pisces, no the accelerator luminite does not compromise the integrity of the stucco. There are products that do, but that is not what this video is about. The term chicken wire technically refers to 20 gauge wire that is indeed used for surrounding chicken coops or countertops for tiling. We use either a stucco netting that is 17 or 18 gauge, this is proper for stucco netting. You guys are forced to use furring nails still? I doubt this is code in any city in the U.S. at this point, that like saying washing machines are not permitted and we have to use soapy water and scrub them on rocks then rinse them in the river streams. Yes, a base coat should be moist so wet it first with a water hose, not dripping wet, but damp, then dash it with some soupy stucco.🕵🏼
