- Morenika is a very old kantiga and its text originated in Andalusia in the fifteenth century. Today it is one of the most popular songs in all the Sephardic diaspora as well as in Israel where there is also a Hebrew version of this song called "Shecharchoret". Due to its widespread popularity, it also entered the repertoire of the Arabic-speaking Sepharadim and was adapted to the para-liturgical text of the Bakashot.
On this recording, there are both versions para-liturgical and original version of the song together.
Accept my prayer with grace like Nachshon's sacrifice (see: Numbers 7:17) on the day of my rest, in song and joy, dear and precious as the apple of an eye, in the abundance of success.

Song lyrics:
They call me "the swarthy one"
I was born pale,
But the summer sun
Made me like this...
Little swarthy one, how lovely you are.
You are sunburned and I am charming
and you have dark eyes
