Since I discovered your channel I am always absolutely blown away from the beauty of the landscape you are riding in. One day I HAVE to do a bike trip there.
Ah that looked excellent Juliet. Great use of the wheels to support the tarp, and what wonderful views you had...plus a dip to freshen up. Thanks for taking us along.👍🏻
I've been swimming a lot after my cycling lately too. I live about a block from lake Michigan and I have not utilized it enough until this year. It's so refreshing to get home get out of my cycling clothes and take a 5 minute roll to the beach.
I have bike toured all over France. We used to make plans for each day and then we could figure out how many coffees and pastries we could have. So the Col De Madelien was a three pastry and two espresso climb. I understand the food obsession.
I've done the Trans Cambrian too, with a stop at the Claerddu Bothy. Such a great route around the reservoirs before you get to the bothy and Teifi Pools Slight advantage of doing this on a Sunday/Monday that the bothy was empty. Great water filtration systems that I've used. Katadyn Befree (with an additional Hydrakpak 1L bottle), or the MSR Trailshot. Both nice portable solutions.
Nice vid Juliet,me & some old school mates pedalled this a few years back also with Bivis. The best is at the end in dunes after your sea swim 🤘🏽 Thanks for bringing back the memories. Good job sister & happy pedalling 💫
Transcambrian Way is definitely on my list. I just did Dartmoor and Exmoor (most of the West Country Way, but diverted to Ilfracombe instead) over the recent heatwave. From one vertically challenged person to another who also questioned water carrying capacity- custom full frame bag with the apidura 3 litre frame bag hydration bladder and another 750ml bottle on my hip pack (plus a water filter- which I didn't need to filter water but ended up using to dump water over me from a tap I found at a church hall).
Not sure I’m brave enough to camp outside but the idea of an epic adventure feels liberating and you mist get to see lots of beautiful remote locations.
Looks like a great trip, always looks like you are having fun and making do which makes your videos a lot more entertaining than most. Haha crack up when people came in when you were talking to us. lmao
Did this two weeks ago with some friends. i also realised i needed more water bottles in rhayader. There is a bike shop there that i got two cages and bottles from. Best trail i’ve done in my life.
Assuming you have stakes or decent sticks, you can flip your bike over or use a kickstand of some sort then make a shelter by covering the bike, staking out the tarp and sleeping under the cavity made under it. Sort of a makeshift lean to. Cordage can be used to stabilize the bike against wind.
Nice work on the tarp. I've used my front wheel at one end, and the bike bars as the opposite end a few times, and that gives plenty of space to pack your gear around the bike and under the tarp. Enjoy the rest of your ride.
Great video. Beautiful scenery. Nice work on setting up the tarp. Well thought out.👍👍👍 Guardian reader👍👍 Packing your panniers, I have a similar dilema every time I go grocery shopping on the bike. Alway forget I need to somehow fit all that 'stuff'🤔 I've just bought onto my bike before I can ride home🙄😁 Cheers
Ee lan Tie vee Ray der. And you cut out the unsuitable for Gravel Bike track to the dam, and perhaps Gro Hill. I live round here. I bottled out of riding it this Summer, too hot....
Australian and I have one sleeping bag, and I will never be to cold in it, because it is rated to minus 10 Celsius.. Really want to do some bike touring / packing, but I can’t manage it at the moment…
Hey Juliet can you get Tortillas there in England? Make wraps or burritos... between towns... only use a tarp when you have trees or something to tie too paracord... if you don't secure those corners the flapping sound will drive you nuts just use it when it rains...
I only looked to see how you had done the bivvy, that's a good idea - although as you said, roughly - it might need refining for harsher weather lol, but I ended up enjoying the whole thing - that route looked fantastic, in that weather at least.
Stonking! Just sent the link to my wife 👍As someone who spends their life flying and living in hotels, this is much more the world I love. Just need a boat 😂
When on trips do you take a lock? I have the kryptonite lock but it’s quite bulky. I’m looking for good compact alternatives for when I pop into the shop, sleep etc..
The base model Hip Lock is little more than a steel reinforced zip tie with a 2 prong key. Sometimes you only need a few minutes and try to park in a spot in front of a surveillance camera.
I use the Abus Bordo Lite in the shortest version. It's small enough to fit in a jersey pocket or wherever and I feel a bit better about leaving my bike in front of a store
Tip : make a paracord bracelet (search RUclips for make a paracord bracelet, it's also a fun thing to make with your daughter) Convenient way to carry lots of cord and have it easily accessible.
I think it's a 2x3 meters tarp. But you can use 3x4 or 4x4 meters tarp to use with bike and 1 wheel. 3-4x4 meters tarp give you extra space and comfort. But not forget about bugs, this system not have a bug net. Myself using a Chinese light tent, only 1,3 kg. Good luck!
Yeeeeww! I live in Birmingham and the Elan Valley provides the city with its water. I hope you didn’t pee in the lake! I’m going to have to boil all the water I use for the next three weeks now! 😂😂😂 😉
Neospornen that arm after wiping with with a clean cloth... wear a long sleeve light color shirt to bed ...next morning apply sav and let it breath... slam a pint and take some ibprophen...
@@JulietElliottsChannel you can attach flexible container with water to the wheel. Pay attention to the water containers of the company Sea to Summit. 4-6-10 liters. I use 4 liters, though I carry it in my back bikepack.
I love the look of packed up gravel bike, but damn it have to be a pig with all this weight up top. Style is over practicality in this case ;) Rear bike rack with paniers looks horible but I can pack up 15kg of stuff and beside the weight - rides super stable. For your water issue, water bottles on forks will add you 0,75l on each and put the load down as well so handling will be slow but a lot better than large bottle up top. Have fun out there :)
I know both worlds and absolutely hated having rear panniers. It's way better for me having the weight distributed all over the bike. There is no negative impact whatsoever having some weight a bit up higher, especially when using fork cages and a frame bag. And I still have a super nimble and responsive bike
@@1esk192 I love them, I have a pair od ortileb panniers on a rear rack and for most of the time I can't tell they are there. Weight distribution is allways important regardle of useing huge undersalde bags od paniers.
I have watched a lot of your videos and really enjoy them. However advertising a left wing biased political newspaper(Guardian) is disappointing as I believe cycling should be non political.
It’s not advertising. It’s just part of my day which is what this video is documenting. To take offence at the inclusion of a newspaper that I enjoy reading is really quite daft. We are all entitled to read what we want
Sadly in the U.K. it looks like most waterways and coastline is being pumped full of 💩 deliberately, and wild swimming is becoming unsafe🦠 For water purification on rides, can I suggest ‘WaterToGo’. They do a specific bottle for cyclists, that has an integrated carbon filter and will also filter viruses and bacteria which most filters can’t do. This what I’m using.
Since I discovered your channel I am always absolutely blown away from the beauty of the landscape you are riding in. One day I HAVE to do a bike trip there.
Hope you make it!
Beautiful, this has made my morning. As always, inspiring stuff.
Thanks for sharing the bivvy technique using the wheels. I'm used to using trekking poles for that when backpacking without a tent. Happy Trails!
Looks like a nice trip! Thanks for taking us with you.
Beautiful! Makes your heart beat faster. You are definitely enjoying life, Juliet.

Def get a water bottle filter. I use the sawyer mini or aqua Mira, all water in pretty much drinkable. Even straight from the stream

Hi Juliet nice video,I was wondering what camera you are using for your blogs 😃
Practice makes perfect :-) What a lovely day out.
If you're planning to go off the beaten track regularly then a water filter is a very useful piece of kit.
Katadyn water filters are great for bikepacking
Loved this video!
Super awesome adventure 🙂
I always Carry life straw system to purify water and it does the job.
thinking of getting one

I would suggest a Camel Back for water in that temp.
It’s hard to track your consumption with a cb. You can’t see how much is gone like you can with a bottle in front of you.
Drop bars with a backpack is miserable. The weight is too high on your back and the straps dig into your shoulders.
молодец джульет
The RUclips algorithms recommended you ... I watched ... I liked, and now I need to know ... make/model of your tarp. Affiliate links accepted 😉
just turn pike upside down ?
Well done popit
Hello Juliet,
Nice Video.
Where is Laura?
Hydration backpack
Nah, not keen
Is that a musette or bag that you use over your shoulder?
It’s my camera
If someone was to follow this trail, from say getting Train from Birmingham, where would recommend as best start and finish points?
Start at Knighton Train station and finish at Machynlleth station
Actually you can get the train at Dovey Junction. That's exactly where the trail finishes. That's how it was designed.
It's a pronounced Rider, easy one to remember 😉
Also ee-lan valley and tie-vee pools 😂
Actually the locals say Ray der. The Hereford dialect travels up the Wye.
Yeeeeww! I live in Birmingham and the Elan Valley provides the city with its water. I hope you didn’t pee in the lake! I’m going to have to boil all the water I use for the next three weeks now! 😂😂😂

I'm sure your local water company has been filling it full of sewage already.
She was swimming in one of the Teifi Pools, other side of the watershed. The welsh drink from them. It's so acid I used to get mouth ulcers...
Where is this Place by 09:30 time ? Thanks
Teifi Pools. I grew up 5 miles away.
MAYBE CAKE!??? serious the only answer is ALWAYS CAKE !!!
It might be a good idea to test new gear at Home before hitting the road ;)
🥰😜
