when Merph whipped out those paperbacks with the broken spines and just let them flop open I threw up in my mouth a little. Contetn warning next time, please. Thank you.
I'm pleased a few of my memes made it into the video. I feel vindicated. I've been training to be a good meme dealer these past few years, really making people's days. LOL
My problem with paperbacks being too easy to damage is that I am kind of a mess and drink water a lot... Hardcovers survive better in my splash zone. Or eating peanut butter zone.
When Merphy said "do people complain about how much you read." I responded out loud with "get new friends" the same time Merph said it. My local libraries do a "Friends of the Library" bookstore and have books for as little as .25 cents, so I never feel guilty about buying 18 books when I only wanted one.
Three days after your necessary rant about undulating, I believe my fiance and I were watching Loki and he goes "wow she is ..... Ungulateing huh" to which I whip my head around and begin to question why he said ungulateing when he has NEVER used the word before and he just says "well she was..." And now he is looking at me like I'm the crazy one.
I haven't watched Loki yet, but I highly doubt marvel co-opted the myth where Loki turns into a mare to distract a stallion and gives birth to a horse. So if he really did use the word ungulating it was probably doubly incorrect, lol.
Oh yeah, One Piece Fridays are my GO TO thing. Merphy you make the end of my work week the greatest. ANd Yes, I still felt like you were Olaf from frozen sing about summer.

My teachers used to struggle with me because I would read in class. I knew what was going on and they were happy I was reading, so they didn’t want to discourage me. There was a lot of conversations after class until I learned to read in my desk
This was cool, but personally I would've preferred the meme stayed in the picture longer, even if it blocked the view to your admittedly very pretty book shelf.
I have actually read a book series that has a movie adaptation that is as good as the books. The Bourne Identity series pulls this off very well, basically by completely changing the setting and the plot of the first movie so that it really has nothing to do with the book series, which makes both enjoyable.
Oh my goodness! The one about people waiting to talk to you until you start reading is my life. It’s true of watching videos or shows, too. And then they act like _I’m_ being rude for not sitting around twiddling my thumbs bored out of my skull just in case they do want to say something. Apparently, I hide in my headphones. I’ve also been told I seem unapproachable, but I can’t see how that’s the case when they interrupt so often. I actually wonder if the headphones give off radar that calls them in somehow.
Paperbacks: Too easy to damage Me: *Looks at my copy of Way of Kings that literally ripped in half on its own while being read for the first time, with its pages sticking out* Me: Thank you for the validation, Merphy ;o; Bonus 1, getting book 2 in Hardcover, and then finding it was too heavy to read comfortably anywhere but a flat surface. Bonus 2, having an opportunity to have Brandon sign my two halves of his book, and him writing "Voidbringers" on the top and drawing an arrow from the word pointing to the separation. Edit: For any curious, Brandon's expression did not suggest this was a first time thing either. XD He took it very well, as seen in the above. XD
OMG Voidbringers! I love that! My (hardcover) copy of Edgedancer arrived damaged, and it looked like someone had squeezed it between two fingers while wearing Shardplate :)

Funny bookshelf! I've had brick & board bookshelves too. I moved to a smaller apartment and gave so many books away the Salvation Army & my Church refused to take more. So I gave some away to a Veterans charity. I still have too many books in milk crates! Kindle & Audible books take up so much less space!
Regarding slow books (as it is a perfect excuse for a little rant): I finally got myself to a long overdue of LoTR, which I read while being way to young for it. And... my heart is broken... but IT IS STILL SOO SLOW SOMETIMES! Some chapters I breeze through, and then we stumble upon a paraghraph-long sentence about a river. One, uninterrupted sentence, wich was basically the author flashing his ability to list as many synonyms to word "flow" as possible. Aaaargh.
And regarding Undulating - you ruined the perfectly fine world for me, now I see it everywhere, what have you done?? ;) And before I didn't even know it existed (I'm not native, and I'm not bothered if I don't understand a world here and there in EN book).
My mom annotates on her books, with a pen(She even underlines as she reads). And it causes me physical pain. And i realised this was because in my school library was a large poster/picture thing with a story from the perspective of a book, describing itself be marred by the user (Annotation with pen, folding instead bookmarks, etc). And that left such a deep and painful impression on a pretty sensitive kid, that i cant look at even a bit of those actions, without wanting to kill myself, or the person, or both
Huh, I wonder if there was one of those at my elementary and I just can't remember anymore because this is exactly how I feel. I have only ever annotated one book (The Martian) and I did so with sticky notes
I remember being so into Percy Jackson that me and my friends would find whatever play swords we had and would role play in my backyard being demigods at camp half blood… So glad i got back into reading fantasy recently, feels good man

Just be aware that if you’re sensitive to depictions of domestic abuse it’s gonna be a very difficult read and it will drop those scenes on you like grenades. “Ha ha, look at all these romantic comedy hijinksOH GOD THAT GUY’S FAMILY MEMBER JUST BLINDED HIM WITH A TEA POT JESUS CHRIST.”
… It’s some serious whiplash.
@@bigbundle3223 you might want to start with the anime.
@@kohakuaiko seconded, it's awesome. Normally not into slice of life/rom coms, but Fruits Basket is amazing
I think, personally, that we need we are in need of a part two. And maybe another word you hate too.
Merphy not knowing that she was looking at it's alway sunny makes me happy, because I know there are people in this world who haven't sat through hours of torture and at the end of all that be rickrolled. You lucky people.
Merphy breaking the spines of her books is the level of savagery I aspire to
The OOFs are so cute 😄. The unread book memes are too relatable 😩
The bookstore owner and staff lets me just linger around for a bit, like get a feel of things and explore before coming to ask me what I need. We built a good understanding of each other, I would have to go around checking what I like in their store before making my request which they often dont have and they bring it in later for me
Along with fruits basket, you should also check out at least the 1st volume of spy x family it is a manga that will make you hug people due to its incedible wholesomeness and the protagonist is soooooooo adorable
@Pirate Violette ANYA!!!!
@Pirate Violette true true true
YES!
I love anya so much!
I am going to write a novel and use undulating as many times as possible, just to watch Merphy's review lol.
11:38 Merphy: (closes laptop) (RANTS) (opens laptop) (continues reading)
when Merph whipped out those paperbacks with the broken spines and just let them flop open I threw up in my mouth a little. Contetn warning next time, please. Thank you.
All your videos feel like having coffee with an extremely lovely older sister, thank you ❤️❤️
Based on your comment you might enjoy Legends and Lattes
Merphy: "Here's a video that will cause you pain"
There was no video linked.
Me: IN PAIN!
That them me them me picks up book and starts reading and they start talking. That one hit hard. Most accurate meme ever.
Never switch to decaf, Merphy :)
This is how Merphy learns about It's Always Sunny? She would absolutely adore Charlie.
You correcting the LotR meme about Frodo's age - thank you so much, that was me internally the entire time and I felt very validated
Growing up my family's bookshelves were boards and cinder blocks. I still have so much nastalgia for that kind of shelving.
merphy needs to start a series similar to please dear god dont be a bomb !
Oh yeah, One Piece Fridays are my GO TO thing. Merphy you make the end of my work week the greatest. ANd Yes, I still felt like you were Olaf from frozen sing about summer.
I LOVE how the first place you go is Doctor Who for the person knocking on your door and taking you away in the middle of the night! There are plenty of Who novels out there.... so it completely counts! ;)
I’m currently reading through The Stormlight Archive, I’m finishing Words of Radiance so yeah, meme “I don’t need sleep I need answers” feels so on point atm 😁
Merphy analyzing the craziness that is _It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia._ 😆
Angry undulate-rant part 2 sounds fun, I'd love to see it. :)
My teachers used to struggle with me because I would read in class. I knew what was going on and they were happy I was reading, so they didn’t want to discourage me. There was a lot of conversations after class until I learned to read in my desk
Writing a whole essay defending your character feels like every time I try to reason why I like Snape to my friends lmao.
You HAVE to do another “undulating” video!🍿
“Too easy to damage- *HAs scornfully* “
~ Merphy, must be protected at all costs
This was cool, but personally I would've preferred the meme stayed in the picture longer, even if it blocked the view to your admittedly very pretty book shelf.
When authors gives out too much unneeded dialogue to way too many characters.
"Why are you talking background character #23!
I made promise to myself to only buy more books until I've read the ones I've got. Any books I suddenly want, I simply add to list for later.
You are stronger than me my friend
I felt almost all these memes 😄, great video Murph.
It's sooo good. Thank you for this dose of positivity and laughter. Also, so many memes are painfully accurate...
One of the best Merph reacts vids ever! Guys we gots to do more of these 😂😂😂😂😂
I have actually read a book series that has a movie adaptation that is as good as the books. The Bourne Identity series pulls this off very well, basically by completely changing the setting and the plot of the first movie so that it really has nothing to do with the book series, which makes both enjoyable.
This video is just Merphy being adorable and cute really!
I just need WalternateBishop to know that I appreciate their name amd that Fringe is still amazing and totally underrated
I feel proud. I understood the first meme perfectly. *tears of happiness*
Wow. It's amazing how many of these memes completely map out my life.... 😅Either it's amazing or kinda freaky...
Great video Merphy!
If Luffy asked me to go with him, you bet your Strawhat I'm going!
If usopp can survive then so can I.
As someone with OCD, I have to very clear with my wife on how I expect my books to look after she reads them...
.....Running with The Doctor probably fatal but, definitely worth it.
Paperbacks: Too easy to damage
Me: *Looks at my copy of Way of Kings that literally ripped in half on its own while being read for the first time, with its pages sticking out*
Me: Thank you for the validation, Merphy ;o;
Bonus 1, getting book 2 in Hardcover, and then finding it was too heavy to read comfortably anywhere but a flat surface.
XD
That bonus 2 one tho 😂
OMG Voidbringers! I love that!
My (hardcover) copy of Edgedancer arrived damaged, and it looked like someone had squeezed it between two fingers while wearing Shardplate :)
@@booklanerecommendations I love it! You'll have to tell people that's what happened to it. The battle damaged books really have a life of their own. : D The WoR I have also has ink stains on the bottom of it from a bad printing batch, so at this point I might just have to start looking for the injured versions of his books to add to my collection. XD Now I know they are more out there!
@@Lyccount Yup! I think the Shardbearers are finally learning to read and that's how my Edgedancer got damaged. Tip: don't read books while wearing Shardplate.
7:30 I relate to this so much! I’m not going to pretend I didn’t image the doctor and the tardis showing up at my house for an adventure when I was falling asleep at night 😂 But yes that meme is so accurate for my fav books too :)
This was hilarious. The LOTR was my favorite.
“Me trying to slowly chip away at my TBR”
“Any Madeline Miller book…”
Funny bookshelf! I've had brick & board bookshelves too. I moved to a smaller apartment and gave so many books away the Salvation Army & my Church refused to take more. So I gave some away to a Veterans charity. I still have too many books in milk crates! Kindle & Audible books take up so much less space!
Regarding slow books (as it is a perfect excuse for a little rant):
I finally got myself to a long overdue of LoTR, which I read while being way to young for it. And... my heart is broken... but IT IS STILL SOO SLOW SOMETIMES! Some chapters I breeze through, and then we stumble upon a paraghraph-long sentence about a river. One, uninterrupted sentence, wich was basically the author flashing his ability to list as many synonyms to word "flow" as possible. Aaaargh.
And regarding Undulating - you ruined the perfectly fine world for me, now I see it everywhere, what have you done?? ;)
And before I didn't even know it existed (I'm not native, and I'm not bothered if I don't understand a world here and there in EN book).
I NEED A PART 2 OF THE UNDULATING RANT
This one made me laugh! Murphy fans obviously know how to get a reaction 😂
Me: "I appreciate slow world-building books"
Robert Jordan: ""Allow me to describe all 38 buttons on Elayne's dress individually."
I remember being so into Percy Jackson that me and my friends would find whatever play swords we had and would role play in my backyard being demigods at camp half blood…
So glad i got back into reading fantasy recently, feels good man
Awww! I had a Papa too. Your shelves are beautiful! ♥️
Edit: an amazing adaptation is Practical Magic. I loved the movie more than the book.
If only there was only 10 books on my TBR... 🤣
6:40 “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” You might enjoy it!
Naw Robin's story will always own my heart it's definitely the-....wait there was.....OH and my favorite arc......and then there's...OK nevermind.
“I’d probably still die… would it be worth it?…”
Now that you've talked about Doctor Who in this (and a few other) videos, I'd love to see a video about your thoughts on that show! Maybe a video for each era (9, 10, 11, etc)? I'd love to know your thoughts on my favourite show of all time!
EDIT: Any JennaMarbles fans who also watch Merphy? I recognized the Twilight meme right away
YES to this. Good timing with this idea because Ninth/Christopher Eccleston recently returned for audio stories by Big Finish
3:25 that is THE BEST REASON!!!! I looooooove Fruits Basket you'll love it too I guarantee! MARK MY WORDS PEOPLE
I too immediately thought of the Doctor coming to my window and got wayyy too excited about that prospect
Welcome to another episode of merphy making weird faces and we all enjoying the hell out of it
